_Gemscale Dragonborn or, Gemscales for short, are beings that are considered the creations of Angexor. Angexor created the Gem Dragons and so it is said that he created the Gemscales. There is a 2nd origin that is also believed by some… Some believe that the Gemscales were once a city of Spartes that devoted their souls to Angexor and as a reward, Angexor granted them draconic aspects. Gemscales are renown paladins of Angexor, but a few worship Ensatus and are often the most brutal on the battlefield. Often Neutral like their dragonic forefathers, a few lean Chaotic in hopes to demonstrate the raw draconic power that their race has been gifted._
_The color of the scale match the dragonbreath type, but the purity of the scales is what sets them apart. Like gemstones, if a Gemscale is born with very pure and beautiful scales, they are considered nobility._
# Names
Dragon names predominantly feature strong, hard consonants and complex vowel combinations that evoke a sense of power and mystique. Many names use soft and sibilant consonants to impart fluidity and elegance, while apostrophes and unusual syllable structures add an exotic, ancient quality. The rhythmic quality of some names further enhances their fantastical and melodic nature. Draconic names hint at elemental and natural forces, aligning with the traditional dragon motifs of control over elements like air, fire, and earth. They may also convey a sense of grandeur and might, befitting the imposing nature of dragons.

**Senses** Darkvision
Dragonblood flows through your veins and the scales of your ancestors coat your body. Your physical features might include a pair of draconic horns or even a tail. You gain the [dragonblood](https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=794) trait, in addition to the traits from your ancestry. Add [Draconic](https://2e.aonprd.com/Languages.aspx?ID=156) to your ancestry's list of additional languages (allowing you to choose it as a language if your Intelligence modifier is positive). When you roll a success on a saving throw against a [fear](https://2e.aonprd.com/Traits.aspx?ID=598) effect, you get a critical success instead. You can choose from [dragonblood feats](https://2e.aonprd.com/Feats.aspx?Traits=794) and feats from your ancestry whenever you gain an ancestry feat.
### Draconic Exemplars
Some abilities reference your draconic exemplar, which is a specific type of dragon from which you draw your draconic powers—typically the type of dragon whose blood runs in your veins. You can choose your exemplar when you create your character, but are only required to choose one when you select a feat or other option that requires you to have one (such as Breath of the Dragon). This means your draconic nature might be a mystery to you for some time. The table below lists the dragons from Monster Core and their specifications. The dragon breath entry lists if the given breath uses a Fortitude (F), Reflex (R), or Will (W) saving throw. If you choose a dragon from a different source, work with your GM to determine if you have access to it.

### D&D 5e
**Ability Score Adjustment:** +3 Points. When determining your character’s ability scores, you increase one of those scores by 2 and increase a different score by 1, or you increase three different scores by 1. Follow this rule regardless of the method you use to determine the scores, such as rolling or point buy. Whichever scores you decide to increase, none of the scores can be raised above 20.

_**Breath Weapon.**_ When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of your attacks with an exhalation of magical energy in a 15-foot cone. Each creature in that area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failed save, the creature takes 1d10 damage of the type associated with your Gem Ancestry. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage. This damage increases by 1d10 when you reach 5th level (2d10), 11th level (3d10), and 17th level (4d10).
_**Draconic Resistance.**_ You have resistance to the damage type associated with your Gem Ancestry.
_**Psionic Mind.**_ You can send telepathic messages to any creature you can see within 30 feet of you. You don’t need to share a language with the creature for it to understand these messages, but it must be able to understand at least one language to comprehend them.
_**Gem Flight.**_ Starting at 5th level, you can use a bonus action to manifest spectral wings on your body. These wings last for 1 minute. For the duration, you gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed and can hover. Once you use this trait, you can’t do so again until you finish a long rest.
_**Languages:**_ You can speak, read, and write Common and Draconic.
