# Writing is Thinking [[Ideation and brainstorming]] [[Writing]] The sentence "Writing is Thinking" that led me to this card comes from [[BOOK - The writer's practice - John Warner]]. Writing in many ways is having a conversation with myself. I do feel like I am speaking to someone (especially when writing in english), and I refine my thinking by talking and exploring ideas. So writing allows me to figure out what I want to write in the first place. But also see [[ZK - 4a2b - Writing is different than speaking]]. Writing also focuses the mind, because [[ZK - 4a2 - Writing makes it impossible to think about another idea]]. It however leads to new ideas which can then be placed in context with the first one. This leads to spiraling [[Zettelkasten]] threads that can be picked up later on. Often I started some blog article and ended up writing a different one that forked off a single paragraph. ## [[2022-06-19]] A similar idea is expressed in [[BOOK - Writers' Workshops and the Work of Making Things - Richard P Gabriel]]: [[ZK - 4a2b - Writing is different than speaking]] (p.18) Writing helps with [[ZK - 4a2c - Rubberduck with yourself through writing and speaking]], but as noted in [[ZK - 4a2b - Writing is different than speaking]], so writing leads to different outcomes, even if a conversation happens in your mind. Furthermore, because of the multimedia nature of [[Online Writing]], we can augment [[Writing]] with [[Computational Essays]], images, videos, links to webpages, drawings and diagrams.
