# Analog [[Zettelkasten]] The art of [[🧠 Notetaking]] using paper cards and pens. Of course related to [[Niklas Luhmann]]'s original [[Zettelkasten]], but in general analog notetaking goes back to millenias, really all the way to the beginning of [[Writing]]. ## [[2022-07-27]] I now really like the following cards: - [Strategist Index Cards | Baronfig](https://baronfig.com/accessories/strategist-index-cards?paper%20type=dot%20grid) by Baronfig - [Amazon.com : Exacompta - Ref 13301E - Bristol Plain Board for Printing (Pack of 100) - 75 x 125mm in Size, 205gsm Card, Compatible with Printers - Suitable for Exam Revision & Notes - White : Office Products](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001AO138S?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) And I bought the following storage box: - [Amazon.com : Index Card Holder Bamboo, 3x5 inches Index Card Box, Note Flash Card Organizer Case, Wood Recipe Box, Business Card Storage Box with Divider Tabs, 4 Compartments for 600 Cards, Card File Note Card Holders, Wood Desk Organizers, 5.8’’W x 10’’D x 4’’H : Office Products](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09LQDDB9V?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details) I have started taking many more physical notes, and also documenting [[Software Architecture]] concepts on cards: ![[Analog Zettelkasten-1658932558656.jpeg]] I really like the writing and browsing of real life cards. As I wrote in [[My Obsidian workflow#2022-07-27]]: > It is not that much spatial. It still looks like a long list of grain little links and it is not visible what a card is about. This is different from physically browsing index card, because the colors, the font sizes, how things are written, the card itself gives the knowledge an actual look and physicality. It is simlar to having a list of albums in itunes vs real life vinyl covers. I also like being able to grab a little block of index cards and being able to put them in my backpack. This is something I want to visit in [[Scrivener]] and see how it feels digitally. ## [[2022-06-15]] or so I started taking notes on paper, and it's really a different experience from the digital notetaking. I feel it leads to slightly different insights. It is more "introspective". I also think the physical rearranging of concepts (vs manipulating graphs in a digital medium) is much more organic. There could be something there with a label printer, printing out digital cards and then rearranging them by hand? I've got the [[Zebra ZD-420]]. ### Different index cards - CVS ring binder index cards. Pretty nice, I like the format, but they bleed quite a bit and don't take water colors well - 321note index cards. I sadly ordered the large version. They also bleed a bit, not sure how they take watercolors ### Links - [STEELMASTER by MMF Industries Drawer Card Cabinet Hold](https://www.aceofficemachines.com/steelmaster-by-mmf-industries-drawer-card-cabinet-holds-1-500-3-x-5-cards-7-3-4-x-18-1-8-x-7-mmf263f.html?gclid=Cj0KCQjwntCVBhDdARIsAMEwACkhqouyljsx2VcZlzpokIG51WTgg4bRDQgGYT9sdAIH85ege3c-AskaAs4UEALw_wcB)
