[[Hulegu Khan]], also known as [[Hulegu Khan|Hülegü]], [[Hulegu Khan|Hulegu]] or [[Hulegu Khan|Hulagu]] ([[1217-01-01 - 1265-02-08|1217 – 8 February 1265]]), was a [[Mongol]] ruler who conquered much of Western [[Asia]]. He was a grandson of [[Genghis Khan]]. [[Hulegu Khan|Hulegu]]'s army greatly expanded the southwestern portion of the [[Mongol]] Empire, founding the *Ilkhanate*[^1] in [[Iran|Persia]]. Under [[Hulegu Khan|Hulegu]]'s leadership, the [[Mongol|Mongols]] sacked and destroyed [[Baghdad]] ending the [[Islamic Golden Age]] and ended the [[Abbasid dynasty]].
