The [[Siege of Baghdad]] took place in [[1258-01-29 - 1258-02-10|early 1258]] at [[Baghdad]]. After a series of provocations from its ruler, [[Al-Mustaʿṣim bi-llāh|Caliph al-Musta'sim]], a large army under [[Hulegu Khan]], a prince of the [[Mongol]] Empire, attacked the [[Baghdad|city]]. Within a few weeks, [[Baghdad]] fell and was sacked by the [[Mongol]] army. [[Al-Mustaʿṣim bi-llāh|Al-Musta'sim]] was killed alongside hundreds of thousands of his subjects. The [[Baghdad|city]]'s fall has traditionally been seen as marking the end of the [[Islamic Golden Age]]; in reality, its ramifications are uncertain.
