Located in: [[Europe]]. The [[River Rhine]] is one of the major European rivers. The river begins in [[Switzerland]] in the southeastern [[Alps]]. It forms the [[Switzerland|Swiss]]-[[Liechtenstein]] border and partly the [[Switzerland|Swiss]]-[[Austria|Austrian]] and [[Switzerland|Swiss]]-[[Germany|German]] borders. After that the [[River Rhine]] defines much of the [[France|Franco]]-[[Germany|German]] border, after which it flows in a mostly northerly direction through [[Rheinland-Pfalz|Rhineland]]. Finally in [[Germany]], the [[River Rhine]] turns into a predominantly westerly direction and flows into the [[Netherlands]] where it eventually empties into the [[North Sea]].
