Located in: [[Athens]]. The Lyceum was a temple in [[Athens]] dedicated to Apollo Lyceus[^1]. It was best known for the [[Peripatetic school of philosophy]] founded there by [[Aristotle]] in [[-0334-01-01 - -0334-12-31|334 BC]]. [[Aristotle]] fled [[Athens]] in [[-0323-01-01 - -0323-12-31|323 BC]], and the university continued to function after his lifetime under a series of leaders until it was destroyed during a Roman assault on [[Athens]] in [[-0086-01-01 - -0086-12-31|86 BC]]. The remains of the [[Lyceum]] were discovered in modern [[Athens]] in [[Timeline/History/1996-01-01 - 1996-12-31|1996]] in a park behind the [[Hellenic Parliament]]. [^1]: Apollo the Wolf-God.
