In contemporary geography, the terms [[Central Croatia]] and [[Central Croatia|Mountainous Croatia]] are used to describe most of the area sometimes historically known as [[Central Croatia|Croatia proper]], one of the four historical regions of the [[Croatia|Republic of Croatia]], together with [[Dalmatia]], [[Istria]], and [[Slavonia]], which [[Central Croatia]] shares internal borders with. It also has international borders with [[Bosnia and Herzegovina]], [[Slovenia]] and [[Hungary]].
