# Group Purpose
The purpose is to form relations with operators in the @GHOSTNET group and work on more advanced comms / protocols for SHTF than the typical "MAD Minute" approach that @GHOSTNET is doing currently on JS8Call only.
The goal is not to become an overly complicated group like AmRRON either, but to have some way of determining "good sources" when they are needed the most in SHTF and have practiced moving information and files outside of JS8Call using VarAC.
This only comes naturally by previous practice before it's needed and authentication means to know you are not being "spoofed" on air. And yes, it does happen even now, people are using fake call signs or other HAM's call signs as we speak.
>When nobody wants to use their own call signs in SHTF, I can only imagine it will be worse.
Proper authentication procedures will be highly valued when they are needed and it's not something you can learn on the fly over the radio, thus practice, practice, practice is needed.
# The Scenario

## Lights Out
So it finally happens, the lights go out and the Nation is in turmoil. No electricity, no cellphones, no communications period! The only thing worse than sitting in the dark is not knowing what's going on around you! But you are an Emcomms Operator, you got this!
## Hardened HAM Shacks
You turn to your trusty HF Digital Mode rig that you have been practicing on regularly for the past few years, and fire up JS8Call, the most ground breaking piece of HAM software in years and head to the water hole on 40M (7.078) to hear what other HAMs are seeing in their locations and reporting on the air waves.
Now granted, the numbers of those who can operate without "shore power" are fewer than you are use to seeing on air when it's grid-up, and after the gensets run out of gas in a week or two there will be likely 1/10th of the normal numbers left on-air, but there will be a few die-hards like yourself that have been running their entire HAM Shack off-grid for years now and can present a persistent presence on-air in an emergency.
## GhostNet Subnet
Maybe you are a part of the organic movement (like I am) called "GhostNet" started by [S2 Underground](https://github.com/s2underground/GhostNet) and instead dial over to (7.107) where you have been practicing sending information every Thursday night at 0130-0200z for a while now.
When you get there you see the "waterfall" is ALIVE with transmissions from stations all throughout the USA! All sending reports from their areas and frantically looking for information outside of their areas to assess how bad the damage is and what caused it?
#### The Problem
Problem is, you are seeing conflicting reports from all kinds of stations, most of which you don't recognize? See there in lies the problem; everyone spewing out what little they know or repeating what they can't confirm, turning the airwaves into nothing more that a REDDIT group full of misinformation when you need the 411 the most!
How do you tell good intel from bad?
### The Solution
Joining this group, @PNW, and developing solid connections on-air with like minded operators that see HF as a viable communication method when normal comms are down and the need to practice on-air traffic passing skills before they are needed in an emergency.
# The Primary Goal
The primary goal of the @PNW group is not just to establish stations that are dependable and on air when needed, but to provide some credence to the information being passed by identifying the source of the message and the messenger via authentication means if necessary.
When we have the internet to verify the information received, we don't tend to think about how easily it will be to send disinformation to Ghostnet.
>Having a group of operators that can be counted on for good INTEL and be authenticated over the air, will be a game changer, but it takes dedication.
# Sharing The Group

Will bring you to this page and I encourage all to spread the word with that URL.
# Telegram Channel
Here is where the heavy lifting happens as a back channel to the radio.
Being able to communicate procedures and propagation information in real-time while on-air is an invaluable tool to learning quickly. It is also where we develop SOPs with member input.
Because of OPSEC, the group TG channel is invite only. If you are interested in joining, [[About#Contact Info]].

A General or better FCC Calsign is required to join. You must be willing to disclose it to be in the group.
