below is a compilation of all the different Takes and Posts that people have had on abundance. instead of beating an incredibly dead horse you can just read this page.
## intro
1. Derek Thompson and Ezra Klein wrote a book called Abundance. you can read it HERE and please for the love of god if you haven't read the book don't Post like you've read it. it's dishonest.
2. **for the record: i, bubba, have not yet read the book so i'm sourcing direct responses to the text from other people.**
## bad things
1. Derek Thompson promoted the book on Richard Hanania's podcast. Hanania is a racist piece of shit. this podcast appearance has been uniformly criticized. (has derek said anything about this? i haven't seen it)
2. josh barro posted X about abundance and unions. barro is also a known moron. yglesias. we know he's a lame POS. mark andreesen is a known NIMBY (a lot of people are in favor of "more housing, just NOT IN MY BACKYARD". that's the point of calling it YIMBY, and not Yes In Someone Else's Backyard)
3. welcomefest and the greater centrist punditsphere. we know it's a lame centrist convention. crypto bad. throwing trans people under the bus, also bad. yes they're all addicted to twitter. derek apparently promoted the book there?
4. CAHSR Stan Account: they unfairly maligned CAHSR
5. it is bad if an "abundance agenda" becomes the ONLY agenda because we do have to fight for many other things. but that does not make the items in it bad to fight for...
## good and correct things
1. more housing supply is objectively necessary
2. more green energy is objectively necessary
3. apparently the book has moved some California politicians in the right direction re: housing
## so?
- Klein and Thompson have not been involved with the organized YIMBY groups advocating for abundant housing for the past 8ish years. they wrote a book.
- "abundance" (the book) =/= "YIMBY"
- YIMBY groups are not market fundamentalist groups. CA YIMBY has sponsored social housing legislation (LINK)
- YIMBYs also commonly endorse the Center for Public Enterprise / "Montgomery County" housing model which involves public developers, revolving development loan funds, and building mixed-rate publicly-owned housing that pays for itself with market rents
- Reagonomics' alternate name "supply-side economics" was a PROPAGANDA NAME and the policy was to cut taxes
## last section
- there are a lot more frequently-discussed items and arguments re: housing HERE. please read them as well, this page only includes the most relevant points to Abundance
Here's some links to other articles. I will summarize their arguments:
