To get to distraction-free has taken a lot of time for me. Indeed, for me it has been somewhat of a distraction. Now that it is in place, it makes writing a joy. My intention is to lay out all the resources so that you can set up easily and quickly. >I can get on with the things I enjoy: the research, the reading, the writing. This new way of working means that my new file formats will not become obsolete] This new way of working can work with a plain text editor - you are not tied to a particular company or format. [[MultiMarkdown Word Processing|More info here]] It is distraction free - you will not be looking through a menu system which may change radically with the next version of the software. You stay with your text. In the end, you will get beautifully formatted documents without having to bother with that bit! You will be able to send your documents to Word, PDF, Websites, or that journal you wanted to publish to... all from the same file. Imagine the time-saving, the lack of frustration, the time you will have for sipping iced cocktails on the veranda. Best of all, the software is free. My preferred text editor is [Zettlr](https://www.zettlr.com/). However, you could use Notepad or Textedit if you like, or BBEdit (paid-for) at the basic end.
