I've been tracking the growth of computation for 45 years, and it shows exponential growth. As you go up the chart, it looks like someone planned it out perfectly, but no one knew this was happening for the first 40 years. I discovered this trend 45 years ago and believed it would continue. In 1939, computers performed 0.0000007 calculations per second per dollar. Now, a Google computer can do 130 billion calculations per second.
