The big question is if the right kind of computation is enough for consciousness. A computer simulation of a rainstorm isn't wet or windy. This shows the difference between a simulation and an implementation. An implementation does the same computations in the same way as the system it copies. But what does "the same way" mean? Is it just more computation? For consciousness, just computation isn't enough. You might need biology as the basis for consciousness. Uploading your mind might not make you conscious. People who upload their minds might not feel anything. They might upload the thinking part of the mind, but that also might need consciousness. #🤖Ned_Block
