I was introduced to the world of card games with Magic the Gathering, the world’s most popular TCG (I think). Playing Magic is a blast, I really enjoy it. It’s also a great entry into card games, helped me learn core mechanics; blocking, card states, and the like. Magic is fun but I was looking for both more and less; more card art and on-board storytelling and less releases per year (please, let me enjoy a set before the next ones are released!).
Along came a new to me, and also new’ish to the world, card game called Sorcery.
I was intrigued by the card art and stayed for the interesting games and fun community.
Sorcery mixes up how a card game is played by having the game board be a 5×5 hexagon grid. Lands are called ‘sights’ and offer the owner a variety of on-play effects and/or mana types which are used to cast spells and facilitate a variety of trickery for your opponent to deal with. This gives a whole new set of strategy to the game!

`This is a 2 vs. 2 game of Sorcery`
The card art is beautiful, I could write a whole blog post about how much I love the art style! The current expansion is Arthurian Legends ([website](https://sorcerytcg.com/sets/arthurian-legends)), which offers 220 new cards in a standalone expansion, you don’t need to have all the cards from the previous set to have fun.
It’s possible to play in a bigger pod of people too, here’s a photo from a 4 player game of Sorcery. It’s two playmats shunted together. Having blocked off the outer 4 corners, it helpfully pushes people into battle against each other, last spell slinger standing wins!
Sorcery has released one expansion per year. This is far more interesting to me compared to Magic the Gatherings relentless new expansion treadmill. I love having the breathing room and time to enjoy a new set, deep dive into the new cards, enjoy the mechanics, and build and go to battle with new to me decks.

I’ve had a lot of fun playing Sorcery, I would highly recommend it! I’m going to explore deck building over the next few weeks, unlocking a whole new level to this tcg.
