The HOD (High of Day) and LOD (Low of Day) are very often either at the very start of the day, or the very end of the day. These two periods are most common on trend days, as we often see LOD in the first 30 min, then price trending up all day, to see HOD in the final 30 min. Or vice versa on strong trend down days.
Analyzing the historical data to visualize which period of the day HOD and LOD are most common reveals this "smile" shaped curve seen below. Note that due to general upward drift of the market ("they designed this thing to go up"), we see more HOD concentration near the end of the day, and more LOD concentration near the start of the day.
