# Snapshot
Baghawī (435-516 AH, 81 y) came from a humble background with is father being a fur trader. He would become one of the leading scholars of tafsīr, hadith and fiqh. He wrote extensively on these topics and is considered one of the leading authorities in the Shafi'ī madhab. One of his leading books is called Maṣābīḥ al-Sunnah (a collection of around 4434 hadith) which was then later expanded and revised to become Mishkāt al-Maṣābīḥ “Niche of Lanterns" (5945 hadith) by [[(741 AH) Khāṭīb al-Tibrīzi]]
