Once known as “rods from god.” Kinetic impactors are little more than a long cylinder of dense, heat-resistant materials.
It was discovered that simply dropping these “rods” wasn’t enough. Even with stabilizing fins and ablative coatings, many would land off target or tumble (rendering them useless or burning up on reentry).
In Imperium, they are much more advanced. With external guidance, reaction control systems, gyro-stabilization, ablative coating, and even rocket motors to further accelerate them.
Despite not carrying a warhead, they are still considered orbital bombardment weapons. As such, they are banned by the [[Orbital Strike Treaty]]. It is suspected that various nations have built satellites with kinetic impactors disguised as legal satellites (see: [[CONDOR Satellite|CONDOR]]).

The damage they inflict is caused by both their mass and their speed. The largest of which are comparable to tactical nuclear weapons. Smaller variants may use a series of “darts” to saturate an area with smaller, less destructive ordinance.
