Moving people and cargo into space with the same ease and riding to the top of a building has long been a dream of human engineering. ## Existing Space Elevators Currently, there are only two space elevators in operation in the [[Core Worlds]]. One located on the planet [[Aurios]], this titanic structure was originally built by [[EBRIS]] in 2344 PC, during the [[Consolidation Wars]]. The second was built by [[TASCOM]] on [[Klement]] in 2207 PC. It is used extensively to move goods and materials to and from the orbital shipyards. The elevators themselves use a tether of [[Ceraphene Nanofiber]], with a station in low orbit, and a second higher station/counterweight in geosynchronous orbit. TASCOM has begun construction of an orbital ring, which will be attached to the upper station. Eventually, that plan to add 3 more tethers/elevators across the equatorial region. Despite the events of the [[Holoscaral Outbreak]] flair up, work continues on these projects. The ring was completed in 2396 PC, with an additional tether attached in 2406 PC. Aurios has become one of the major military strongholds after the [[Years Of Strife]]. The bulk of the TASCOM fleet was stationed above the planet and managed to repel [[Kyserian]] ships during the initial invasion (with [[Lacir]] assistance arriving soon after the Kyserians). --- ## Unfinished Sites The [[United Republic Of Mercaulis]] had attempted to build their own space elevator on [[Ares]] in the 2320s. They completed the ground-based anchor and the geosynchronous station, but manufacturing the several thousand kilometers of Ceranofiber proved difficult and prohibitively expensive. The original politicians who initiated the project had long left office, and it was seen as a wasteful and unachievable feat. The project was ultimately abandoned and the ground and orbital segments were repurposed. Location, geopolitics, and cost have prevented any other attempts to build another space elevator on Ares.
