Characters have a variety of Skills that are gained during character creation and during gameplay. The Skill’s Rank determines how many dice will be [[Dice Pool Roller|rolled]] during a [[Check]]. #### Advancement Skills are advanced during gameplay with [[Advancement Point|Advancement Points]]. #### Untrained Skill Use You can attempt to use a Skill with no rank. You will roll the [[Approach]] value as the number of dice, but *only* a result of 6 is counted as a [[Successes|Success]] and the sixes do not explode. If you successfully use an unranked Skill 3 times, you will gain Rank 1 in that Skill. Track the amount of unranked successes in the AP section, to the right of your Skill rank on the [[Character Sheet]]. --- #### Default Skill List #### Mental ##### Expertise - Gunnery: the use of mounted weapons and their targeting systems. - Medical: any form of medical treatment, from first-aid to surgery. - Piloting: this is a condensed skill that covers ground, water, and space vehicles. ##### Ingenuity - Survival: combines tracking, wilderness survival, and animal handling. - Technical: any form of technical, electrical, or mechanical repair or interaction. - Terminal (Computers): in depth computer use, including hacking. ##### Reason - Investigation: examining clues in an environment and intuiting information from witnesses. - Navigation: finding the best route with available information, maps, or charts. - Research: piecing together information from existing texts or databases. #### Social ##### Cunning - Deception: this covers deceptive practices, lying, and acting. - Persuasion: convincing someone to change their views or agree with you. - Tradecraft: subterfuge, working with assets, and the use of tools for spying and surveillance. ##### Influence - Bribery: using money or blackmail as leverage on a third party. - Etiquette: knowing how to present yourself and interact in various social situations. - Negotiation: finding a mutually beneficial outcome in a situation. ##### Presence - Concealment: hiding items on your person, either with clothing or distraction. - Intimidation: using threats to coerce others and influence actions. - Streetwise: knowing how and where to acquire illicit goods and information. #### Physical ##### Endurance - Heavy Weapons: the use and maintenance of machine guns or other large weapons. - Thrown Weapons: this covers any thrown weapon, from spears to grenades. - Unarmed Combat: any form of hand-to-hand combat, higher Skill ranks imply advanced martial arts. ##### Finesse - Firearms: any form of light or medium weapons that use a propellant to fire a projectile. - Ranged Weapons: this covers all weapons that use mechanical force to launch a projectile. - Sleight Of Hand: lock picking, pickpocketing, palming small items, and dexterity based deceptions. ##### Mobility - Athletics: this is directly related to physical feats and complex body motion. - Melee Weapons: the use and care of handheld (non-projectile) weapons of any type. - Stealth: moving unnoticed through an environment. --- #### Skill Ranks | **Skill Rank** | **Description** | | -------------- | --------------- | | 0 | Untrained | | 1 | Beginner | | 2 | Novice | | 3 | Proficient | | 4 | Advanced | | 5 | Expert | | 6 | Master |
