>Internal/narrative note, if you're curious, you can go through this.
Based on the [[Tannhauer]], I already have “EDPV-C”
Which stands for “extended duration patrol vessel, combat.”
[[TASCOM]] ships all use the naming convention of TASCOM Space Vehicle (TCSV).
I don’t want a huge variety of [[Spacecraft|spacecraft]], as space combat is significantly limited. But that doesn’t mean a variety of different craft weren’t built and remain on standby.
>[!Note]
Aresian national space navies are essentially imitations of TASCOM designs and designations, but use their own naming conventions for their hull types. NBSC ([[Northern Bloc]] Spacecraft), ESV ([[EBRIS]] Space Vessel), SAF ([[Saigatani Federation]] Aerospace Force), RSC (([[United Republic Of Mercaulis]]) Republic Spacecraft), VHSF ([[Viltorian Combine]] Holy Space Force).
>
Civil (aero)spacecraft: NTX (Civilian Transport Passengers (including mixed cargo), NTC (Civilian Transport Cargo), NSE (Civilian Spacecraft Exploration), NAC (Civilian Authority (police/government) Combat).
>
Corporate flagged vessels use C instead of N (example: CTX).
>
[[Border Worlds Alliance]] uses B, [[Free Trade Collective]] uses F, [[Almetocian Legion]] uses ALSC for all (AL spacecraft), [[Autonomous Colonial Region]] uses A, the [[Isylorian Order]] uses I.
>
Civilian “Tail Numbers” contains 2 numbers, 1 letter, 1 number and 1 letter. Example: 68F7N
>
Military tail numbers are usually a 2 digit manufacturing date, 2 digit series/model number and 3-4 digit individual serial number. Example: 82-51438 (year)-(model)(serial number)
>
Model and serial numbers can be anything, they don’t need to be sequential.
>
*Let’s put that all together for my sanity.*
>
Civil passenger transport: NTX 02T6V (Might have a nickname).
>
Northern Bloc “self-defense” ship: NBSV Verteidiger 51-50132

TASCOM ship from the [[Imperium - Schattenkrieg]] novel: TCSV Tannhauer EDPV-C 78-64591
## Spacecraft Types (Military)
(sorted by descending size)
#### **Flagships**
These are intended to be command-and-control vessels. They also have [[Hub Drive]]s and are capable of opening a portal large enough to [[Transit|transit]] several other vessels along with them. This allows space navies to move strike groups (or larger formations) around a potential battlefield or to bring force to bear in a system without [[Transit Rings]], or just enter a system without the use of a transit ring. As those would be complicated pinch points in potential conflicts.
Designation: Command Transit-capable Vessel (CTV)
---
#### **Cruisers**
These are the ships of the line. The EDPVs are based on this design. They serve as a generalist platform. Having decent acceleration and maneuverability, with a large payload of [[Missile|missiles]], [[PACS]], [[Mass Driver|mass drivers]] and [[Laser Emitter|laser emitter]] weaponry. They may be armed with [[Railgun|railguns]], as they can generate enough power (and have the heat sinks required) to operate these devastating weapons.
Designation: Cruiser Vessel (CV), Combat (CVC), with a railgun (CVC-R)
Patrol variant (with hub drive): Extended Duration Patrol Vessel (EDPV), Combat (EDPV-C)
The non-combat version of the patrol vessel is used for situations where diplomacy is required and a warship is not the best solution. They have no missiles or mass drivers. But are still equipped with 2 laser emitters and PACS for self defense.
---
#### **Interdictors/Patrol Vessels**
Similar to cruisers, but more lightly armored and built for long-range patrols or theater-wide actions. They carry additional [[Fuel Cask|fuel casks]] and enough weapons to deal with civil and light military threats.
The patrol variant is equipped with a hub drive for inter-system missions.
Neither model is equipped with railguns to converse power and weight. Typical load outs comprise a moderate missile payload, 4 laser emitters, 2 mass drivers and PACS.
---
#### **Destroyers**
These heavily armed vessels are smaller and more maneuverable than cruisers. They carry a smaller payload and have less fuel for maneuvering. However, where they lack in some areas, they make up for it in sheer firepower.
Armed with up to 8 laser emitters, 4 mass drivers, PACS, a small complement of missiles, and even a railgun.
Designation: Destroyer Combat Vessel - Railgun (DCV-R)
---
#### **Gunships**
The smallest military crewed vessels. Gunships are designed for short range and sometimes atmospheric missions.
These vessels do not have their own [[Fusion Reactor]], relying entirely on battery power, thermoelectric generators and solar power.
They are armed with 2 laser emitters, 1 mass driver and a set of 4 PACS. Variable payloads may also include missiles, satellites or drones.
Multiple gunships may be tasked with attacking a larger vessel or orbital platforms, softening them up for a follow up assault. They are expendable when weighed against the larger, more valuable vessels.
These are often used for police actions by the various nations over their zones of control.
Designation: Gunships Vessel (GSV)
---
#### **Drones**
Missiles have largely replaced “fighters” in space combat (if they were ever actually used). But sometimes sending a group of these small, lightly armed computer or human controlled vessels can be advantageous.
Carrying a small complement of missiles, a single laser emitter or mass driver. Drones are used when risk to a ship or crew is high, but an encounter/interdiction is required.
They are small enough that a gunship can carry up to 4 of them. Larger vessels will often have external docking stations along their hull for several dozen of these craft.
In the current political and military climate, drones aren’t often used. Most larger vessels are more than capable in their roles are in no immediate danger of damage or crew injury. If open conflict were to occur, it’s likely that drones would become standard equipment on most vessels.
Designation: (Semi) Autonomous Combat Vehicle (ACV)
