There are two types of essence. [[Lebenflus]] is the essence left by [[Fifth Realm]] life forms. Everything from humans to microorganisms. Human [[Mancer|mancers]] use this essence as “fuel” for their spells. The other type of essence is the [[Voldeflus]] of [[The Hub]]. %%This essence has been flowing from a dying void entity that has existed since before the universe. The god-like entities that exist within The Hub were created by, and are masters of, Voldeflus.%% --- Essence is created within the new cells of a living being, typically moving through the body, flowing like blood. The essence isn’t intrinsically tied to the blood%%, but some may be lost through wounds%%. %%Personal essence regenerates at a rate of 1 point per day. If a person somehow loses more than half of their personal essence, they will need a transfusion in order to survive. Personal essence can be used as a reserve for magic, but the [[Mancer|mancer]] needs to be exceptionally careful not to put themselves in a deadly state of essence loss. If a person loses all of their essence, they are [[Soul-Death|soul-dead]] and unable to be healed, even by magic. [[Soul-Death|Soul-death]] - Being without essence is a shock to the physiology of a living being and will stop their ability to generate new essence. A being’s essence is tied to their consciousness in ways that are not fully understood. When their essence is fully drained, their mind is left blank both in our realm and beyond. Even if the body is able to be kept alive. --- ## Abyssal Essence A third type does exist within the [[Abyssal Realm]], known as [[Abyssal Essence]]. After the events of 2386 PC, Abyssal Essence and the Voldeflus within the Hub are permanently intermixed. This result was actually a boon to humans (and their magical abilities).
