(luh-SEER) - originally a [[Kyserian]] word. Human slang: Grau (GRAOW).
## Summary
It is long rumored that the Lacir were the first aliens, after the [[Falinjorin]], that humanity encountered among the stars. Humans weren’t sure what to make of the Lacir at first, but they were always non-confrontational, if not a bit aloof. Occasionally offering seemingly sage advice about the local region and the hazards that may exist there. The Lacir did not directly assist (often outright refused to help) humans with any of their conflicts until the end of [[The Collapse]]. Little is known about the first war, but it is known that they were not involved.
**Territory**: Their vast empire wraps halfway around the Milky Way. Consisting of the Norma-Outer Arm and parts of the Perseus arm, down-spin from human space. They are nomadic by nature and do not actually have many populous ground based colonies. They have vast fleets of spacecraft and a few dozen Planet-Ships of Kyserian design.
## **Biology**
Lacir are 2.2m to 2.75m tall. They have gray to bluish skin. A round face with slit nostrils and mouth with small tusks along the sides. They possess a second opposable thumb on their hands, while their feet only have 3 toes. Indicating that their original form only had three fingers as well, but were altered to have thumbs. They are genderless and bred in spawning tanks using multiple sets of DNA. The [[Kyserian]]s artificially created them using plant-like and animal genetic material. Their original form ([[Laciryn]]) was 25% larger, but they have slowly decreased in size over tens of millions of years, losing much of their genetically encoded loyalty to their creators. They are, however, fiercely loyal to their own empire. Even renegade Lacir will stand up for the empire’s customs and codes when pushed.
## **Life Span**
~250 years. They are in their adolescent form for around 80 years. Most adolescent Lacir are not allowed to leave their territory.
## **Magic**
They are extremely unlikely to gain magical abilities. Only a handful of Lacir who are exposed to Voldenflus become mancers. When this happens, they do not gain their adult characteristics. Most of them end up drafted into imperial leadership. The Emperor Rae is a moderately powerful mancer.
They are very aware of magic and the inner realms. They possess technology that can detect the use of magic and people within in the [[Fourth Realm]].
## **Advantages**
They’re big and tough. They are stronger than they appear, but slow. They can do tremendous melee damage, carry huge loads and heavy weapons. They can use large (2-handed) human melee weapons in each hand, but cannot use normal sized human firearms.
They are highly resistant to poisons and (cosmic) radiation. They can survive in a vacuum for 10-20 minutes, without consequences.
Lacir are omnivores.
## **Disadvantages**
Their physical appearance is unmistakable. While they are a known ally of humanity, most people have never seen a Lacir in person and will be cautious (or curious) around the huge aliens. As they are big, they are also slow. They have trouble speaking human languages, pausing and using awkward synonyms often.
When they were created by the Kyserians, they were instilled with a genetic fault that prevents them from understanding their own technology. They can still repair and maintain it, but building any new complex machines or spacecraft is impossible. This has led some groups of Lacir to coordinate with humans, allowing them to modify or reverse-engineer some of their technology.
All non-renegade Lacir are essentially spies. They will regularly report back to their empire on their adventures and on what’s going on around them. This doesn’t mean they will betray the party, unless actions are taken that are harmful to the empire.
>[!note]
>The Lacir are slowly losing the war with the Kyserians. With no way to replace losses of spacecraft, they have been whittled down to 10% of the original military strength. The Lacir are too prideful to admit this. In addition, the long periods of time between conflicts has often led to a false belief that they have always been at whatever strength they currently maintain.
