Certain situations leave a character or NPC open to an attack of opportunity, resolved as a Reaction. In general, these attacks only trigger when a character is distracted or disabled, or when they act recklessly and leave themselves exposed. - A character charging or fleeing while out of cover may be attacked with any ranged, melee, or unarmed attack. When charging, melee counterattacks require the defender’s weapon to have greater reach. This restriction does not apply when fleeing. - A character standing from prone in melee range may be attacked with a melee or unarmed attack. - A character attempting to grapple may be attacked by the defender. Multiple attempts allow multiple attacks, and Close–Short range penalties may apply. - If a character is **Downed** and **unopposed** (no allies in range, line of sight, or able to intervene), an attacker may attempt a **Death Blow**. This requires an appropriate Skill Check; if successful, it inflicts the equivalent of a Lethal Wound.
