### Course organiser
Since 2017 I have led all three year-groups of the BA/BSc in Music Composition and Technology at UCA.
**Independent - Final Major Project** **(L6)** Student projects range from sound design for Games using WWise and integrated into a workflow using the Unity engine, to collaborative projects with Film, Animation or Acting students.
**Linear Brief (L5)** Developing orchestral and advanced audio skills in relation to long form narrative structures. Students produce an original music/audio recording through collaboration, and gain understanding of compositional flexibility or sound design in terms of style, budget and instrumentation.
**Adventures in Sound and Music (L4)** Sound and image synchronisation and the relationship of audio and media. The course introduces the aural and musical components of a soundtrack and their significance. Briefings are developed alongside collaborative projects with film students or in tandem with Film Scoring competitions, such as the Berlin International Film Scoring competition.
**Exploring Narratives (L4)** Collaborative music and sound design for media including Blancanieves and LaAntena. Students work on a section of these films, each re-scorings a section so that the whole film is scored by students.
**Studio Toolkit 1&2 (L4/5)** Developing students autonomous use of 24-channel analogue studio and associated microphones and outboard. Students learn patching, soldering, reel to reel tape splicing, compression, EQ, mixing and mastering, both in analogue and digital domains. Software taught includes Logic Pro, Pro Tools and Ableton Live. At Level 5 students create sample packs, impulse responses and other resources to establish their own sonic signature.
**Bleeps and Beats- Music history and context (L5)** Developing analytical skills to put 20th century developments in sound and technology into a wider academic context. The course provides a critical overview of theories of identity, communication and consumption related to music and popular culture, and consider them within a wider social, historical and political framework. Instrumental in challenging ‘default narratives’ especially in relation to race and gender.
**Dissertation Supervisor (L6)** Primary supervisor for music, music technology, and journalism students. Topics range from beat-poetry and subculture to the expansion of frameworks of diegesis in computer game audio.
**Sonic Art (L4)** Tutor: Developing real-time and non-real-time systems for sound installation. Collaborating with textiles and TV Production. 2020 project in collaboration with Salisbury Cathedral, where students work goes on exhibition to celebrate 850 years of the cathedral in its present location.
**Stylistic Studies (SCQF Level 9)** University of Edinburgh Stylistic studies tutor. Encouraging students to develop compositional skills in a range of contemporary and historical styles.
