# ADHD The link between ADHD and ME/CFS is unclear though I do see it overrepresented among my patient population. One theory is that both ADHD and ME/CFS represent a sensitized Cell Danger Response. If you have ADHD, it may affect treatment of ME/CFS by reducing your tolerance for boredom and stillness. It can also reduce self-awareness needed to pace successfully and increase risk for PEM. Treating ADHD with stimulant medications can be a double edged sword. Stimulant medications are often necessary in helping the patient to manage their ME/CFS. However, they also provide “false energy” and can lead to PEM if the patient uses the stimulant as a crutch to continue doing as much as possible. Stimulants may also cause worsening of insomnia symptoms. They should be used with caution and not relied upon to mask symptoms. ## ADHD and Use of Stimulants
