According to the Book of Genesis, Mahalaleel (Hebrew: מַהֲלַלְאֵל, romanized: Mahălalʾēl) was a patriarch and the son of Kenan. He is mentioned in the Sethite genealogy as the grandfather of Enoch and subsequently the ancestor of Noah.
**Family and Lineage**
Mahalaleel was born when his father Kenan was 70 years old. He married [[Dinah]], the daughter of his paternal uncle Barakiel, at the age of 54-60. At 65, he fathered Jared, and later had many other children (Genesis 5:15-16).
**Notable Events**
- Mahalalel lived to be 895 years old, witnessing the growth of his great-grandson Noah, who lived to be 234 years old (Genesis 5:12-17).
- He became a grandfather to Jared’s son Enoch at the age of 227 (Genesis 5:18).
**Legacy**
Mahalaleel's descendants continued through Enoch and ultimately led to Noah, who survived the Great Flood and began a new generation after the floodwaters receded.
**Alternate Names**
In some biblical accounts, Mahalaleel is referred to as Maleleel (Luke 3:37) or Mehujael (Genesis 4:18).
