Relational algebra is a branch of mathematics interested in operations against sets of numbers. Operations include union, intersection, difference, etc. and other operations included in [[set terminology]]. Relational algebra is important in the fields of [[combinatorics]] and [[probability]]. Relational algebra is also the basis for the [[SQL]] language used in the relational [[database management system]] (where the set of numbers is a relation (rows and columns).
