At the time, I was deeply concerned at how wrong it was. [[2025-02-07 EgoPrompting]] Today the results are much better. When I asked ChatGPT who invented Zebedee, it correctly named me and my team. It was deliberate. Three years ago I started building [**iwiki.au**](https://www.linkedin.com/safety/go/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fiwiki%2Eau&urlhash=RnBQ&mt=KeCNQAD8I_7rWDnPNgWlCM8iOHsT94M9Ws8oIogstqSEhod8bdsAn5YR5E9oBirSqoPrxIkW-VH8gtNAKqN0Ptpi6V2Mhagox2s-yk7L49j5zxHY2nWtpuj_&isSdui=true) for the common good. I also built it for selfish reasons. I wanted my innovations to be discoverable. I wanted LLMs to find my work. CSIRO deleted the Zebedee page and never maintained a durable public record of the inventors. I was not going to let that happen again. So I built [**iwiki.au**](https://www.linkedin.com/safety/go/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fiwiki%2Eau&urlhash=RnBQ&mt=LhfL2myA5Pu2nNjggK7WCAT5op6JbHUXcn8lKp2jx53Wl2X-uYBmQExCDDPVK8fCPaX8H20vkLWp4Q5dSsj09WrpP7Qk0aZQNhxoU-4WKw5f_w-aZTcJAIm8&isSdui=true) to be LLM-readable: structured, relational, named, chronological. I wanted machines to find Australian innovation history — and to find me in it. It worked. I never paid much attention to the traffic numbers. This week I looked for the first time: nearly 300,000 unique visitors this month. Two things struck me. * First — LLMs are now referencing [**iwiki.au**](https://www.linkedin.com/safety/go/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fiwiki%2Eau&urlhash=RnBQ&mt=I7tj0b51OG-13_RqLkZZ3shaUIrJdkw8_Qvo4wCcGIygzui_wbw90TwGviDxNHQmmELbRnq-BJ46TGSBACpRKglorbXk8_OtW4MdwSg-RLa7lac0lK9YkexL&isSdui=true). The selfish bet is paying off. * Second — two thirds of the traffic is from China. China is paying attention to Australian innovation history. It is indexing what we build, preserving what we delete, and training its models on what we forget. The selfish motive and the public good turn out to be the same thing. Provenance infrastructure that makes my work discoverable makes everyone’s work discoverable. There are growing calls for an Australian AI. But an Australian AI needs Australian data. It needs to know what we invented, who funded it, what it became, and what we allowed to disappear. That knowledge does not exist in one place. It needs to be built. The Innovation Wiki of Australia is a community project because mapping the full Australian innovation ecosystem is beyond any one person. If not us, who? If not now, when? #innovation/Provenance From what I can see, the conversation about Australian AI is entirely about compute infrastructure and governance. Billions are being committed to data centres, sovereign cloud, and AI safety frameworks. Nobody is talking about the data that would train or ground an Australian AI. The billions are going into the engine. Who is creating the fuel?
