# 20230917 ☕️ Sunday Morning Coffee Notes Three `random notes` from my Obsidian vault, today's `music` selection from MailTape, and a `photo` from the past week from my phone. ### UPDATE on the [[Memex Bell Project]]: #memex I'm really making some headway on this long-term task of getting rid of years of paper documents by scanning them and then trashing the paper. - created 369 pdf's last week -- that's probably about 3 reams of paper scanned and [[Shredded.png|shredded]] or recycled - the week before I scanned the most so far -- 384! The trick to doing this many has been to not bother with creating an informative name for each file, but rather letting the ScanSnap create the name using the date/time format of `YYYYMMDD.hhmmss`. I figure later, I can come back and rename these appropriately. This gets me thru the paper quicker, allowing me to empty the boxes and file cabinets more efficiently. I'll grab 3-4 inches of paper files, process them for scanning (remove staples, whiteout PHI or other sensitive text, and stack criss-cross to keep each document separated), then begin feeding each document in the ScanSnap. It takes about 1 minute per document to process them, and about 1 minute per document to scan (average) -- so that is about 13 hours of effort this past week. If I can keep this pace up, I'll be done by February. --- ## 📸 "Heinrichite Crystal" ![[Heinrichite.png]] #photo Nominated by [@bathos.bsky.social](https://bsky.app/profile/bathos.bsky.social) for next year's Mineral Cup, this beautiful natural crystal fluoresces neon green. I believe the photo credit is Ko Jansen. --- ## ![[Open random note.png]] Three notes from the Random Note core plugin. This is how I am dipping my toe into [Obsidian Publish](https://publish.obsidian.md) by adding at least 3 notes per week from my library of 6500+ notes. --- ## 🎲 [[MMJ States|Medicinal Cannabis]] (2019) This note was created about 4 years ago, around the time I applied to be a Commissioner for the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission. I felt the MMCC needed more representation from the addiction treatment community, so I offered to pitch in. The Governor appoints these positions, and I went through the vetting process, including an interview with Gov Hogan's Chief of Appointments (something like that). The Commissioners also have to be balanced by demographics and background, including the county they live in. I did not make the cut, but it gave me a good excuse to spend time boning up on my cannabinoids, terpenes, and state laws. This is one of the many notes I developed in that pursuit. Do keep in mind that I've not updated this note since 2019, so surely some of the state information is outdated. #MMJ --- ## 🎲 [[20210125.1241 O'Reilly- NLTK and Python for NLP|O'Reilly- NLTK and Python for NLP]] (2021) This random note reminds me of where I want to be. I really wish I had the time to dive deeper into #ai/ml . I do read something about the use of AI in healthcare pretty much weekly, and occassionally open up Terminal and try to expand my #python skills, but it's the sort of thing that I need more of an immersion in. It's like learning Italian a few words at a time. Ce la faccio, but I cannot hold a conversation. But after a couple weeks in Italy (2018), I had a bit more facility with the language... which faded after months of nonuse. After I finish this current ASO CMO position for Optum, I am determined to have my next position be all-in on this front... if not at Optum then somewhere else. Effective ML requires high quality information, meaning a lot of data cleaning and supervised feature engineering to apply meaningful clinical context to the noisy data in today's EHRs. As Reyna et al, said in their 2022 JAMA [article](https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/article-abstract/2794258): > - **Engagement between clinicians and algorithm developers is key to developing clinically relevant metrics** --- ## 🎲 [[Cyrus Hineline b1868]] (2022) One of my genealogy #gen notes. I find Obsidian an excellent tool for managing genealogy information. Cyrus is a distant relative. I have found some points in the line where Hineline and Heinlein split off. I have not yet found the SOLID link between sci-fi author Robert A. Heinlein and my Hinelines, but I have not given up. --- ## ![[logo.mailtape.png|64]] #451 - [Mathilde Fernandez](https://www.mailta.pe/451/mathilde-fernandez/) #mailtape/rough No new Mailtape selection this week, so randomly picked this lively selection from [Mathilde Fernandez](https://mathildefernandez.bandcamp.com/). --- [[20230910 ☕️ Sunday Morning Coffee Notes|Prior]] <> [[20230924 ☕️ Sunday Morning Coffee Notes|Next]] [[20230625 Thinking about ☕️ Sunday Morning Coffee Notes|About coffee notes]] [[Home#Contact|Contact me]]
