Generic subjective continuity (GSC) is a concept in theory of [[Consciousness]] describing an awareness of experience independent of meaning. It is experience without any personal context. It is likely that non-human sentient life has access to this type of continuity; an innate comprehension of the world in motion, without specific personal *[[Meaning]]* attached to it. GSC arises from the observation that experience continues despite pauses in one’s awareness. It is a sense of both the *persistence* of phenomena and of awareness. Describing the dimensions of GSC is one of the tacit undertakings of science, [[Social Epistemology]], and influences the built environment. In the history of landscape design, [[Russell Page]] believed landscapes possessed a hidden reality. Good design was determining the deeper underlying structure of a site and incorporating geometry into it. This structure aligned with the experience of the site beyond its perceived cultural value. >[!quote] Russell Page >I felt refreshed and quiet because I knew again that there is a continuing reality behind the appearances and problems of everyday.’ This is also the experience described [by practitioners](https://sashachapin.substack.com/p/a-non-definitive-non-guide-to-non) of [[Non-Duality|non-dual awareness]] and [by survivors](https://aella.substack.com/p/frame-control) of high control environments. ## Thoughts - How does this relate to observer-partipancy? An awareness that personal perspective is not the only possible form of meaning? %% ## Notes
