![[Dioptase pic.png|250]] **Dioptase**, also known as **diopside**, was a small ) that had unusual healing properties ## Description These deep emerald-green stones were typically found in small crystals that were riddled with flaws and only yielded tiny faceted gems. Because dioptase was soft and brittle, it found uses in items that were not expected to be subject to rough handling, such as decorating figurines or fancy lace. Larger specimens were extremely rare and commanded higher prices. A typical stone had a base value of 50 gp-75gp ## Powers[](https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Dioptase?veaction=edit&section=2 "Edit section: Powers") Dioptase gems could be used to make a potion that acted similar to a _[potion of healing](https://forgottenrealms.fandom.com/wiki/Potion_of_healing "Potion of healing")_. They dissolved in any liquid that was actively enchanted with any spell. The process took about twenty minutes to complete, and the liquid had to stay enchanted for at least that amount of time. For every dioptase gem dissolved, the potion would restore a minimum amount of health to the creature that drank it # Volo's Guide A soft, brittle semiprecious stone of vivid emeraldgreen hue, dioptase (also known as diopside) is found in tiny, flawed crystals and yields only the smallest of faceted gemstones that are used in figurine adornment or to decorate lace. Larger specimens are extremely rare and highly valued, commanding the same prices as more valuable color and clarity variations. In two turns dioptase dissolves in liquids that have already been enchanted by any spell effect —and each gemstone that is so dissolved restores 1 hit point of damage to a creature who drinks the resulting mixture. Few folk in the Realms know of this alternative sort of [[Potion of Healing]], but word is spreading.
