# For the Booktok community ![[BookTok-05-flat-1200.jpg|450]] For those who don't yet know: [TikTok has been shut down in the U.S.](https://www.cnn.com/2025/01/18/business/trump-tiktok-ban/index.html) as of Sun. Jan. 19th, 2025. Things may yet still change, but meanwhile the BookTok community is looking for alternatives. I have a TikTok account as well. Even though I mainly used TikTok for browsing BookTok community posts rather than posting, I'm sad to hear about the loss of yet another venue where people share about books they love. **To those joining Bluesky trying out Bluesky as a possible alternative** : Bluesky's video functionality is not as flexible as TikTok's, but improvements are in the pipeline. Check out the most recent (Jan.20/2025) [update announcement](https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3lg5g64vptc23). ![[Screenshot-VideoAnnouncement.png|400]] To read the entire thread above, [click on this link](https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3lg5g64vptc23). Summary: video custom feeds are available, and third-party developers are actively working to provide more tools. With the help of the community on Bluesky, I've compiled an [Unofficial Guide To Bluesky](https://publish.obsidian.md/debbieohi/bluesky). Here's some basic info that I strongly encourage you to read first: [[b. Quickstart Guide|Quickstart Guide]] [[e. Control What You Do (& Don't) See|Tips on how curate what you do and don't see on Bluesky]] [[e. Images and Video|Basic info about images and video on Bluesky]] Bluesky will never be a replacement for TikTok, but I believe that the platform's user-centric features and focus on community safety can help those on BookTok find a new way to engage with users. ## Quick tips Some useful hashtags to reach your intended audience: - \#Booksky for book-related posts. - \#Edusky for educators; follow [@EduSky](https://bsky.app/profile/edusky.bsky.social) for more info. - For those talking about children's books, use \#KidLit. I've created a new [KidLit BookTok videos feed](https://bsky.app/profile/debbieohi.com/feed/kidlit-video) and [KidLit BookTok feed](https://bsky.app/profile/debbieohi.com/feed/kidlit-booktok) specifically for the kidlit community coming from BookTok, still testing it out. - Browse the [KidLit Mega Feed](https://bsky.app/profile/debbieohi.com/feed/kidlit) for posts by others in the KidLit community. To be able to post to the feed, you need to be on a curated kidlit list (there are many); [details here](https://blueskyfeedcreator.com/p/debbieohi.com/kidlit).
