In case (like me) you could no longer find the Chat Settings, click on CHAT, then the little toggles icon beside the "+ New Chat" button. [Chat Settings](https://bsky.app/messages/settings) - Default allows new messages from users you follow, but you can adjust this to turn off chat messages completely, or to allow messages from everyone. ![[Settings-ChatSettings-NEW-flat-800.jpg|450]] # Settings > Account This is where you can update your e-mail address, birthday, password, and handle. ![[Settings-Account-ChangeHandle.jpg|450]] If you want to se your own website as your username, [here are the instructions](https://bsky.social/about/blog/4-28-2023-domain-handle-tutorial). There's also [the option to export your data](https://docs.bsky.app/blog/repo-export) in a CAR file: ![[Settings-ExportMyData.jpg|450]] # Settings > Privacy and Security The [Privacy and Security page](https://bsky.app/settings/privacy-and-security) is where you can enable email 2FA as well as add App passwords. App passwords are used to sign in to other Bluesky clients without giving full access to your account or password. For example, I have app passwords for BlueskyFeedCreator.com, deck.blue, and some other apps. You can also control your "Logged-out visibility" on this page, to discourage apps from showing your account to logged-out users. This means that Bluesky won't show your profile and posts to logged-out users BUT other apps may not honor your request. This does not make your account private. ![[Settings-PrivacySecuritySettings_20250212.jpg|400]] # Settings > Moderation Bluesky's [Moderation settings](https://bsky.app/moderation) are a crucial part of what makes Bluesky appealing for me. Also see [[Control What You Do (& Don't) See|Control What You Do & Don't See]] for still more ways to moderate and curate. ## Moderation Tools For details about these tools see [[e. Control What You Do (& Don't) See|Control What You Do (& Don't) See]]. - Interaction Settings, Muted words & tags, Moderation lists, Muted accounts, Blocked accounts. ![[ModerationTools_New_InteractionSettings_2025-02-17.jpg|400]] ## Content filters - You can toggle-enable adult content, Non-sexual nudity (e.g. artistic nudes). ![[Settings-ContentFilters-800.jpg|450]] ## Advanced All Bluesky users are subscribed to the Bluesky Moderation Service by default. See [Bluesky's Community Guidelines](https://bsky.social/about/support/community-guidelines) for more info. ![[Settings-Advanced-BlueskyModerationService.jpg|450]] Take the time to go over these, which include toggles to Warn or Hide (or disable) different types of posts like Self-Harm, Sensitive, Extremist, Intolerance, Threats, Rude, Illicit, Security Concerns, Unsafe Link, Impersonation, Misinformation, Scam, Unconfirmed, Misleading, or Inauthentic Accounts. Any other Labelers you subscribe to will appear in this area. I'm currently subscribed to the [AI Imagery Labeler](https://bsky.app/profile/aimod.social), [Profile Labeller](https://bsky.app/profile/profile-labels.bossett.social), and [Pronouns](https://bsky.app/profile/pronouns.adorable.mom). Check out the [[Labelers]] page in this Guide, where the [creator](https://bsky.app/profile/davis.social) of the AI Imagery Labeler explains. ![[Settings-Moderation-Labellers.jpg|450]] # Settings > Content and Media The Content and Media area is part of Bluesky's recent Settings reorganization. ![[ContentAndMedia_Settings_20250122.jpg|450]] ## Manage saved feeds The [Manage Saved Feeds / Edit My Feeds](https://bsky.app/settings/saved-feeds) page enables users to manage their saved custom feeds. These custom feeds might be ones the user creates, or ones created by others. If you Pin a custom feed more easily available. This is a more complicated topic, so I'll likely be creating a separate Topic page about this later. ## Thread preferences The [Thread Preferences](https://bsky.app/settings/threads) page is where you can control how you would like to sort replies to the same post. Here's what mine look like right now: ![[Settings-ThreadPreferences.jpg|450]] Note that there is no ONE right way to set your thread prefs. Because I have so many "reply to be added" and "reply with your community resource" threads, I've sorted my replies so that I always see the newest first. This is only MY view; others may have their thread prefs set differently. If you're curious about what "hot replies" are, [here's an explanation](https://bsky.app/profile/bsky.app/post/3lbxfx4nfkk2z) from Bluesky. If you choose "hot replies first," recent replies with lots of likes are more likely to be shown to you first. ## Following feed preferences The [Following Feed Preference settings](https://bsky.app/settings/following-feed) apply only to the Following feed. ![[Settings-FollowingFeedPrefs.jpg|450]] Example: If you are tired of seeing people's reposts and quote-posts in your Following Feed, you can turn these off. ## External media The settings on the External Media Preferences page give you control over whether or not media players from external sites are enabled e.g. YouTube, Vimeo, etc. ![[Settings-ExternalMediaPrefs.jpg|450]] ## Autoplay videos and GIFs Do you hate it when videos and GIFs immediately start playing? You can turn toggle this off on the [Content and Media](https://bsky.app/settings/content-and-media) page. ![[Settings-AutoPlay_Videos_Gifs_20250122-800.jpg|450]] # Settings > Appearance [Appearance Settings](https://bsky.app/settings/appearance) ![[Screenshot_Appearance-1000.jpg|450]] You can control color mode, how Dark themes are handled, how fonts are handles, and font size. # Settings > Accessibility [Accessibility Settings](https://bsky.app/settings/accessibility) enables you to: ### Require alt text posting I turn this on to help remind me whenever I post an image. See [[Alt text - Why It's Important]]. ### Display larger alt text badges Also handy for reminding oneself. I also find alt text useful to see how others are describing their images, for context. (Note that the "Disable autoplay for videos and GIFs" toggle has been moved to Content & Media) # Settings > Languages [Language Settings](https://bsky.app/settings/language) Select your app language for the default text to display in the app, your preferred language for translations in your feed, which languages you want your subscribed feeds to include. # Settings > Help There's now a [Bluesky user guide](https://blueskyweb.zendesk.com/hc/en-us) that answers some common questions, via zendesk.com. # Settings > About The [About page](https://bsky.app/settings/about) has Bluesky's [Terms of Service](https://bsky.social/about/support/tos), [Privacy Policy](https://bsky.social/about/support/privacy-policy), [Status Page](https://status.bsky.app/) (great place to check if you're wondering if tech issues are just on your end or across systems), [System Log](https://bsky.app/sys/log) (I have no idea what this means), and the Version number (1.95.0 right now as I type this on Thu.
