It operates using a short-stroke gas-operated system and fires from a closed rotating bolt - features not common in submachine guns. It also has a *free floating* barrel. The MPX ships in the 9x19mm Parabellum calibre but can be easily converted to fire .357SIG or .40 S&W. The fire selector and magazine catch are *ambidextrous*. The bolt catch paddle located on the left and the charging handle located at the back are designed to be reminiscent of the AR-15 platform. An integral *Picatinny rail* runs along the top of the length of the upper receiver. Gen 1 models also feature Picatinny rails on the remaining sides of the handguard, whilst Gen 2 models have *KeyMod* slots instead. *M-LOK* rails replace KeyMod slots in the third generation. The SIG MCX carbine is developed from the same gas piston system. ## Variants ### Selective fire - *MPX* - standard - telescoping or folding and adjustable stock, typically uses an 8.0" barrel - *MPX-K* - compact - 4.5" barrel - *MPX-SD* - integrally suppressed - MP5SD-like integral suppressor, 8.0" barrel ### Semi-automatic only - *MPX-P* - pistol - stockless, 8.0" barrel - *MPX-PSB* - fitted with the SIG Sauer pistol stabilising brace, 8.0" barrel - *MPX-K* - pistol - folding stock, 4.5" barrel - *MPX-C* - carbine - 6.5" barrel with a 9.5" permanently attached muzzle device.[^2] - *MPX-PCC* - a new form of the carbine with a 16" barrel. ## Video games - *Rainbow Six: Siege* - hybrid of the prototype and Gen 1 model - *Ready or Not* - Gen 1 model - *Escape from Tarkov* - prototype model - *Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II* - "BAS-P" - fictionalised version, based on Gen 2 model - *Grand Theft Auto V* - "Combat PDW" - fictionalised hybrid of an MPX and an [[MP5]] - *Ghost Recon series* - *Ghost Recon: Wildlands* - hybrid of prototype and Gen 2 model - *Ghost Recon: Breakpoint* - Gen 2 model [^1]: Mass and length of the MPX Gen 2 model. [^2]: The muzzle device is a modified version of the core of the integral suppressor of the MPX-SD.
