*MP5A5*
The *MP5* is a submachine gun developed as the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge firearm of the family of small arms based on the successful G3 design.
It was originally designated the *HK54*[^2] and was named the *Maschinenpistole 5* when adopted by the West German government.
The MP5 fires using a roller-delayed blowback system from a closed bolt and has a free floating barrel.
The MP5 is *modular* and the forearm, trigger group, and stock are all easily interchanged with parts from other MP5s and first or third-part components.
The magazine catch is *ambidextrous* and is a paddle next to the magazine catch. However, the charging handle is not and is located above and to the left of the forearm.
Several variants of the MP5 are offered by Heckler & Koch which differ in ergonomics and trigger groups as well as variants with integral suppressors and variants in different calibres.
Heckler & Koch also released the MP5 MLI - *Mid Life Improvement* - model in 2013, which features Picatinny rails on the foregrip and on top of the gun. Additionally, it ships with a yellow-brown colour scheme.
## Variants

Below are the various stocks available on factory MP5 variants.
- *Fixed* - a solid, fixed stock made of polymer.

- *Navy* - developed for the U.S. Navy, ambidextrous, pictogram markings, reversed order from SEF, different switch, and straight pistol grip
- *Navy 3-round burst* - a four-position Navy-style trigger group with a 3-round burst after semi-automatic.
### MP5 variants

The MP5SD is designed to be used with the *standard supersonic* 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge and the suppressor is capable of lowering the muzzle velocity of the bullet to subsonic speeds.
MP5SD-N variants was produced for the U.S. Navy and features a stainless steel suppressor and uses the Navy trigger group.
All MP5SD variants have a barrel length of 146 mm and a curved magazine.

The MP5K-N "Navy" and MP5K-PDW "Personal Defence Weapon" variants have a slightly longer barrel than normal MP5Ks to facilitate a suppressor.
All MP5K variants have a curved magazine.
