*Five-seveN MK2*
The **Five-seveN** is a pistol designed by FN Herstal in conjunction with the P90 [[Firearm Types#Personal defence weapon\|personal defence weapon]] and the FN 5.7x28mm [[cartridge]], from which its name was derived.
It, along with the P90 and the FN 5.7x28mm cartridge, was designed in response to NATO calling for a *replacement for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge*. NATO specified that a shoulder-fired and a handheld weapon is to be developed and known as "personal defence weapons". The handheld weapon was required to *weigh less than 1 kg* and have a magazine capacity of *new fewer than 20 rounds*.
The Five-seveN uses *lever-delayed blowback* and has a *concealed* [[Firearm#Hammer|hammer]]. The exterior of the pistol consists entirely of *polymer* which reduces weight and provides greater resistance to corrosion.
It features the same grip angle as established pistols such as the [[M1911]] and the grip width is the same as in the [[Beretta 92]], then the U.S service pistol, despite the longer length of the 5.7x28mm cartridge.
