I am not a therapist. This is for educational purposes only. These are tools, modalities, and my thoughts on treating CPTSD, and particularly doing it without relying solely on a therapist. There are three main categories: * **Cultivate positive emotional resources** * Process negative emotional learnings/self-beliefs * Process somatically In particular, I think cultivating positive emotional resources is an essential factor that is often neglected in trauma treatment. If you had to pick one branch only, I'd go with cultivate positive resources. However I think it's ideal to pick one thing in EACH branch. For example you might do: Cultivate positive -- metta meditation Process negative -- EMDR Process somatically -- DBR Or another: Cultivate positive -- talk therapist Process negative -- talk therapist Process somatically -- Tension Release Exercise Of course the boundaries can be quite fuzzy. EMDR, for example Step 4: Desensitization of negative self-belief Step 5: Installation of positive self-belief does both the negative processing and positive installation. However if your positive inner resources are underdeveloped, the installation phase can be ineffective -- in fact there's a [modified EMDR protocol (pdf)](https://janinafisher.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/03/modemdr.pdf) which highlights the importance of inner resourcing. is intended to facilitate the development of internal resources and increased affect tolerance in clients with more severe symptomatology and/or a paucity of positive experiences. ~ Janina Fisher The intent is to be a guide on identifying and categorizing modalities to learn how to customize a recovery plan for yourself, without being overwhelmed by acronym soup. My personal tools: * Metta/Ideal Parent Figure meditations * Using Coherence Therapy as a framework to * discover maladaptive beliefs (along with [[Young Schema Scale (Maladaptive Schema Scale)]]) * process maladaptive beliefs by juxtaposing with positive opposite imagery * Group therapy/support groups (in particular [Adult Survivors of Child Abuse](https://ascasupport.org/)) * I also file meditation groups under this * Talk therapist Questions or comments?
