The Principal Heads of the Earth Zone relating to Virgo will be described in detail further along in the essay, so we will skip those for now. Let us begin with an over-view of the Magical attributes of the sign by looking first at the Jovian Influence and then to the Angels of the Decans. **Jovian** **Hamaliel** - **Virgo** - The sixth original genius is in charge of all **chemical** original principles, original **elements**, in the whole cosmic order. The magician who gets into contact with Hamaliel can get detailed information not only about the _chemical elements_ so far known on our earth, but also about unknown elements which probably will not be discovered before the far distant future. If the magician is interested, he can also learn the relevant facts about the elements existing on all other planets of the whole cosmic hierarchy and, what is more, he can be instructed in the practical magic and **_Qabalistic application of the radiation of each original substance of our_** **_planetary system_**, in its mental, astral and even physical shape. This makes it possible for the diligent magician to become, by training, a perfect master of the original chemical elements due to the exact methods and instructions given him. He thus becomes a magical **Qabalistic alchemist** equipped with a kind of knowledge of which the key to practical application is known to only a few Adepts on our earth. (**Hamaliel**  (8/6)(151°-180°, Virgo) **Chemicals** ) You will see, as you continue to read that the first three Decans on the ordinary Wheel are concerned with matter and the importance of material validation (as well as the importance of Science and Engineering in the Sign). You will also note the Metaphysics of Esoteric Chemistry. Therefore it is wise that our over-view of Virgo begins with Hamaliel; Chemicals. **Angels of the Decans** (Mercury) **Lekabel** - The thirty-first genius is an initiator into love magic and all sexual mysteries. Besides this, he can instruct the magician in Qabalah and talismanology and in the art of acquiring the most diverse magical faculties by the Akasha principle, or by the use of the light, for instance, clairvoyance, making oneself invisible, etc. The magician will find Lekabel to be an excellent teacher in alchemy. Following his instructions, the magician is able to prolong his life at will. But there are many other advantages resulting from the contact with the thirty-first genius of the Mercury sphere. The magician can, for instance, become a rich man after this genius has made him discover precious treasures hidden under the earth. The magician learns how to force thieves by magic to restore the stolen things or to give themselves up. This genius also unveils the secret of how to become a talented orator, and many other things. **Vasariah** - The magician will find the thirty-second genius to be a versatile initiator and protector whom he may call on any time he wishes. He helps the magician obtain his right. Thieves, robbers, liars will be induced by him to tell the truth; he can provide one with an excellent talent for talking and instruct the magician how, by the help of Qabalah, to acquire such talents. In order to help him in moments of distress, the magician will be revealed powerful formulae or powerful words by this genius by which the fiercest aggressor can be made ineffectual. This genius can instruct the magician in **astrophysics**, in space magic and Qabalah, as well as in all other magic arts, and he can also assist artists in their profession. He may also reveal to the mature magician magic words by which he becomes invisible and invulnerable against any kind of weapon. **Jehuiah** - The thirty-third genius is a teacher of all sciences of the earth. He helps the magician to pass successfully any examinations that he might have to go in for. He allows him to look into the past, present and future of all things, makes him recognize his enemies, is able to change hostility into friendship, to raise love in man and woman and to increase friendship. Furthermore, he teaches the magician the art of levitation, the practical application of the law of gravitation in a magical sense, instructs him in the dematerialization and materialization of bodies and other objects and in space magic. He reveals to him the remotest truths and he also assists the magician in solving difficult magical problems by way of inspiration. **Lehahiah** - The magician is told magic formulae for the calming of tempestuous spirits, so that he eventually becomes their master and is able to control lightning, thunder and thunderstorms on land as well as on the sea. If the magician, protected by this genius, is on a voyage, the ship will resist the greatest gales and return safely to its harbor. Led by Lehahiah, the magician will achieve great things. At this special request he will be initiated by this genius into the remotest Divine Mysteries and he will be shown many interesting facts about magic and Qabalah, and thus an almost boundless number of possibilities will open to him. **Kevakiah** - is the thirty-fifth genius, who will show the magician ways and means to become complete master of all dangerous influences of negative beings. He turns the greatest enemy into a friend of the magician, creates peace everywhere where it is desirable, amongst individuals as well as amongst nations and peoples. If the magician wants it, Kevakiah will help him to become rich and honored. **Menadel** -, the thirty-sixth genius, is an excellent initiator into synthetic astrology. He teaches the magician to apply his astrological  knowledge for spagirical and alchemical purposes; he informs him at what time and for what purpose he should manufacture and charge talismans and by which way the desired powers can be banned into precious stones by force of magic and Qabalah; he tells him the exact time when he should collect herbs and the practical application of their power for curing and for magical practices. This genius is also able to free prisoners, no matter in whatever kind of jail they may be. This he effects either by force of magic, i. e. by inciting wardens to open the locks and doors of the jail, or by an act of mercy. This genius also procures luck and happiness in one's profession, the favor of very important persons, and many other things. **Venusian Influence** Next are the Cytherean Intelligences acting in Unity as a Group: 39) **Inea**, 40) **Ihom**, 41) **Iomi**, 42) **Ibladi** 43) **Idioh**, 44) **Ischoa**, 45) **Igea**. - This group consisting of **seven** intelligences of the Venus sphere is commissioned with the task of awakening and increasing intellectual faculties of making beauty, love, harmony perceptible, and explicable in all languages of the intellect. The range of power of these intelligences also covers the control, inspiration and realization of **art** and of all kinds of inventions. And after that comes a brief description of… **Solar Genii (**of Virgo**)** **Banamol**- The **materialization of the Divine Original Light** within the creation of all planets  **Emuyir** - The twentieth original genius of the Sun sphere controls the original principle of **health**, _i. e. the complete_ **_harmony_**, with regard to the laws of analogy, and _the magical equilibrium_ in men and beings of all planets and spheres. **Dukeb** - The laws of **relationship** by the _plus-principle and the minus principle_ in the created universe, i. e. in the total cosmic hierarchy, and the control of lawfulness are the responsibility of the twenty-first original genius of the Sun sphere. [there is a star near these known as Dubhe, and one of the Bardon lists spell this Genius Dubek; it is possible then that the Germanized word is related to the pronunciation: Dubekh, or Dubech (with the chet being ashkenazicized as 'h'.] **Emtzel** - The **laws of dynamics and expansion** on all planes of existence, on all planets and spheres of our cosmic hierarchy, are subject to the influence of the twenty-second original genius of the Sun. The Stars associated with each Genius are as follows: | | | |---|---| |EMUYIR|ALIOTH| |DUKEB|MIZAR| |EMTZEL|ALKOR| **The astrological influences of the star Mizar** 'Supposedly, Mizar portends a Mars nature. The reputation of Mizar, if it is in maximal position in a mundane map, is that of being connected with fires of a catastrophic extent and mass calamities. In personal charts Mizar is not helpful if conjunct with 'bad' planets. It is not wrong to assume that, besides these handicaps, artistic emanations can also be attributed to Mizar'. _And_ …' if Alioth is felt to make an impact, it is Mars like and of a destructive kind. Associated with the Sun, suicidal thoughts will be eminent in female cosmograms. Joined with the Moon, it will be an indication of possible danger during pregnancy and delivery. Amalgamated with possible non propitious planets, it will indicate fiascoes, bad fortunes within the family circle or within the profession or disappointments brought about by friends. It is advised not to include these findings in a prognosis, as these records were not borne out by later research'. The nearest way I can describe this right now is this: If the influence of these Stellar forces are conjoined with certain bad planes of expression or planes of experience which are not pleasing to the Divine Spirit of Harmony (the Virtue of the Sephirah Tiphareth), the impact of this may likely be a vehement resentment and fierce garrulousness and a nasty, fighting disposition; the incessant flare-ups erupting from the inner forges of anger and resentment, which will not be at all helpful to the fruition of Benevolence and the final harvest of Blessings. The Quality of reunification of the Soul may become separative and resentment can ensue (which is suicide to the health and happiness of the Friendship-Soul). The underlying effect is of clamorous disharmony or immersion in pointless cacophony, perhaps accompanied by somaticized sensations of steady piercings by blunt splinters (not unlike being gnawed on by grass-hoppers), at least soulwise allegorically. And this is reflected in the exterior grass-lands, which are represented inside us by our inner vegetation in its late summer rakishness wherein the tender blades of the vitality begin to resent the ubiquitous gnawing off of the tender green new growth of the Soul's expressive contribution, leading it to wonder what the hell must be the point of on-going participation. Certain Phytotoxins are secreted and motley, over-abused edges become razor-sharp and tough; parts once pliable and fuzzy suddenly stiffen into spiny thorns and spurs. What was once a roll in the clover has become hostile and bites back! This general hostility pervades the overall disposition and manifests in all the daily activities and the smallest of accomplishments become a theater of stormy war-fare conducted under the banner of idealist sloganeering against nearly everything, even the most pip-squeak of opponents. No-one masters the vices of fire at this late stage of summer, compounded by the Stellar Forces beneath the broiling Sun; it is far too late to begin such a thing and suddenly we know it. It is at this stage that we are blessed by the aid of Benevolence Personified. Many of the Chief Principals are equipped with features which especially address these special circumstances and their particular needs. (See Principals of the Earth Zone for details). Of Special note are the specialties of Invulnerability to Heat, Protector of Vegetation, Guardianship of Justice (the malicious punishment of Persecutors), Guardianship of Property (from Fire, lightning, storms, catastrophe, theft, burglary), Suicide Control and Mental Health, Taming of Predatory Raptors, and the striking of unqualified usurpers with conceit and vanity (the vices of the qlippah and the 1st deadly sin) in order to cloak them in ignorance and protect the Truth by hiding It from them, to name a few. The Influences of the Planets are in a sense governed by the boundaries and laws which 'outline' their Planes and by that namely via time and space. The Influence of the Spheres however are transcendent of time and space and therefore operate much like Akasha, the Spirit. The Genii of the Sun Sphere are operating everywhere and in ways which contribute to the Harmonious materialization of the Original Divine Light within all of creation (down to the very lowest expression of Living Creation). As you will remember from the Star-seed Hypothesis, we are all brought forth out of Stardust for the Great Purpose engendered so long before even our own Galaxy and Like affects Like. Therefore we are easily controlled from our very interior by the Seed Gold within every atom and we are cooked to Perfection from within just like from a microwave oven. Now the Massive Intensification enabled by the Suns (Stellar Forces) would contribute to the rapid growth of all manner of aberrations were it not for the Principle of Harmony exerted via the Spheric Tiphareth. In such a way does **Emuyir** 'control the original principle of health, (_i. e. the complete_ **_harmony_**), with regard to the laws of analogy, and _the magical equilibrium_ in men and beings of all planets and spheres'. This same Intensification would surely lead to a reputation, such as that of Mizar, of being connected to massive Fires and mass calamities of a catastrophic extent, especially since in personal charts Mizar is not helpful if conjuncted with 'bad' planets, were it not for the Harmonious activities of Solar Genii such as the 21st Principal, **Dukeb,** who insures the **Laws** of **relationship** by the _plus and minus principle_ in the created universe, (the total cosmic hierarchy), and the control of **Lawfulness**. The Star Alcor is a close and faithful companion-star to Mizar. It is said that the Pleiades were the wives of the Seven Rishis (represented by the 7 large Stars in the Big Dipper; 3 in the tail and 4 in the 'cup') but were banished by the Wise Men for their infidelity; all except Vashishta's wife Arundhati (represented by the faithful companion-Star Alcor). As we know, all great married men owe their success and the expansion of their career and personal advancement to the 'woman behind the scenes' and this is certainly true when it comes to the Faithfulness of Alcor. The faithful support conferred to this Star is even relayed via Germanic peoples as Hans the Thumbkin, who gave the Savior a lift in his wagon when He was weary. As a Faithful Helper and Aide towards Expansion (the kind we see in Stellar Intensification) we have noted the crucial need for some equilibrating governance when it comes to aberratious aspects which forestalls a concurrent intensified pandemonium and we find that faithfully at work here, too; as Alcor was employed by Arabians against the sting of scorpions (the letter [S], intensified) and burning saws (cf. gnawing locusts). All these Benevolences will be found Faithfully in effect via **Emtzel** -the 22nd Solar Genius, whose influence includes the **laws of dynamics and expansion** on all planes of existence, on all planets and spheres of our cosmic hierarchy. It is also true that many Principals including the Venusian Ministers are able to convert the rawest of enemies into lasting Friendship. This Grace extends not only to Persons but to the _activities_ of the beleaguered also, making the chore of continued participation to become worthwhile and conducive again. And now a word about the cacophonous disharmonies; as modern society has gotten more complex, the old shaker plain-song has fallen into dis-use. All around us the pistons of many engines are pounding away and the ring of many hammers striking upon various anvils seem to clash with each other's piercing resonance. And inside our psyche the same disquietude clamors for resolution day and night without end. And the horrible sights and humiliating admissions, constant dehumanization and personal indignities, guilt and failures and litany of unworthiness gnaw away at our serenity (if we but cease for a moment our fugitive desperation and acknowledge it) compounded by our compassion for others in the same or similar condition (if we still have any). The soils of our Psyche have grown very deep and rich indeed. And the need is very real for all of these to be woven together into a meaningful and harmonious tapestry of subjective, personal truth but the complexity of conflicting biases is too contrary and overwhelms us to exasperation. We can trace the evolution of this complexity and its effect upon the modern Psyche in the history of Musical development; because the Human Expression of Music is a reflection of the Music of the Spheres and is one of the Graces. And because the Psychic Aoidoi have composed the story of Its own unfolding Consciousness. [if I had time I would next elaborate upon the above point, citing: Chord Theory; how jazz-chords differ from plain triads in their close intervallic relationships (more crowded = more disharmonious; e.g. the flat second) and how the Musical Expression of jazz and jazz-harmony has allowed for harmonic resolution on a massive scale, un-imagined in earlier times; perhaps including the rootless, the implied harmony, chromatic and step-wise progressions, and ambiguous/redundant voicings; etc.] And lastly in this section, because the validation of Matter is so prominent in Virgo with its relationship to Chemicals and the like, I would add that: the treatment of objects and physical matter displays the degree of Spiritual Maturity that one has attained; slamming into things, slamming doors, dropping stuff, shoving things aside, slinging things, jerking drawers open, ripping packages open, dragging stuff across the floor rather than lifting it, being rough on things, etc. etc. display a very selfish and immature Spiritual perspective. Taking the time to be gentle and making the effort to guide matter tenderly are signs of advanced Spiritual Understanding. The reasons undergirding such an assertion will become clear as we delve into the particulars of the Principals of the Earth Zone with respect to Virgo. **Mars** For the sake of completeness we include the Three Chiefs of Mars, for which there is no information: **Idia**  (1-10° Virgo) **Abodir**  (11-20° Vir) **Idida**  (21-30° Vir) And lastly we take up the detailed examination of… **The EARTH ZONE PRINCIPALS** (related to Virgo) The seals of the thirty heads who belong to the zodiacal sign of Virgo are all to be drawn in **Brown** colour.  **Peresch** (1° Virgo) - controls all political events in our physical world. Depending on the degree of development and maturity of mankind he causes this or that idea to come to importance and social attitudes to become valuable. Furthermore, he decides on the duration of a political power, either by appropriate diplomatic developments or by wars, and he lets political views have failure or success, as Divine Providence orders it, considering the spiritual development of mankind. If the magician wants it, then this head helps him with a high political career, equips him with the faculties of an excellent orator, who knows how to bind people by word. Apart from this, he equips the magician with toughness and endurance which remain without comparison so that he can realize all his wishes in this respect. It is remarkable the degree to which Virgo is politically aware, even sometimes to the point of being political activists (see [Alpaso, Virgo 8] below). It only seems natural then that Virgo should begin with this Chief. By taking into account the Daath function (see [Notiser, 29 Virgo] for more on this) we readily understand why Political Science figures so prominently in Virgo under Mercury.  **Bruahi** (2° Virgo) - is the protector of all inventions in the Akasha- principle, so that they are not realized before their time. As occasion demands, he inspires certain individuals to make certain inventions and causes these to be realized in the physical world. However, this head also hinders people with high intuitive faculties from realizing inventions which are not to be made known to the public before a longer time, maybe a century or five centuries, has passed. The magician in the favor of this head is shown by him under the seal of secrecy, in the Akasha principle, which kind of inventions will startle our world in a hundred or even a thousand years. Beginning with the lyre and proceeding to the art of writing (including the inventions of the alphabet and metaphor), the ever-active Mind of Hermes has been ceaseless in activity and Intelligence. Technology (and Technique) are the _sine qua non_ of the Sephirah Hod.  **Moschel** (3° Virgo) - controls every art on our physical world. His subordinates administrate the various branches of art. Special methods revealed to the magician by this head, either by his relevant subordinated beings or direct transference, enable the magician to equip himself with any artistic faculty. Moschel also helps the magician to make an artistic career. Art _is_ Technique. See _sine qua non_ above. Consider this with respect to 'Alchemy, the Great Art'; the Magical Arts; the Art of Healing, etc. (the latter of which corresponds to the Archangel Raphael -see [Karasa, 14 Virgo] below.) Of course Beauty is also featured in various fields of Art (especially by prominent Artists) and there is a certain Harmonious Beauty (related to the Sephirah Tiphareth; Mercury was fast friends with Apollo) See, also [Girmil, 5 Virgo] below.  **Raschea** (4° Virgo) - One could justly regard this head as the king of flowers, for all the flowers on our earth are under his protection. From this head the magician learns to understand the language of flowers, i. e. the symbolic meaning of the various kinds of flowers in their relationship to man as well as to the universal laws. The color, shape and number of the petals reveal to the magician the analogies to the universal laws and he sees from this what, in the world of flowers, is real beauty. Penetrating deeper into this knowledge, the magician learns to look at and understand each flower from the esoteric point of view, and he learns to grasp the qualities of each flower in any respect and to use them for magic purposes. For example, it will be found that many of the Nut Trees, which are renowned for their Airy Element, will be found to have bitter (an attribute of Herbal Air) coatings, pericarps, saps, or meats (especially when un-ripe), the ingestion of which causes radical intestinal catharsis and/or borborygmus due to the raw activity of un-seasoned Air. It is notable, as well that several native Nut Trees have glands which emit a fragrant (see Osmotherapy [Cobel, 19 Virgo], below) volatile compound (Airy attribute) [the Pecans and Hickories, _Carya_] and saps and juices which are yellowish when fresh or young but staining Brown even to the extent as making for very famous dyes and inks [the Black Walnut, _Juglans_]. The Brown stain was famously employed in the past as a cosmetic 'sun-tan' by the country girls in the Southeastern US. This yellowish-ness and Brown stain is often witnessed in the Spring-time when the flowers of these trees (catkins) fall off the branches and wind up leaving Brown-stained imprints on the car-tops. The flowers of Oak Trees (_Quercus sp._) do the same, and their acorns are quite bitter until boiled or roasted. (Yellow petals have a distinct Relationship to Brown Tinctures (see [Notiser, 29 Virgo] for more on this). The study of Esoteric Flowers is a major Department and is included in Metaphysical Botany, a subject far too vast to go into here. Perhaps it will suffice to say that Metaphysical Botany encompasses the Art of Herbal Healing and goes way farther than any Spagyric Homeopathy has thus-far ventured. In this respect the King of Flowers is certainly a much Welcome and Respected Honoree.  **Girmil** (5° Virgo) - This head is a representative of love, harmony and beauty, and at the same time their protector. He teaches the magician to see love in everything. Love and harmony on the one hand, and hate and disharmony on the other will teach the magician to understand, too, the exact laws of sympathy and antipathy. Not before having gained this knowledge will the magician realize what is true beauty and that, in fact, beauty is but another expression for harmony. This head helps the magician to come to a genuine perception of beauty. The attributes of the Sephirah Tiphareth (which governs the preceding adjacent sign, Leo) are of course, Harmony and Beauty; 6 is the Marriage number (Sacred Union of the Spirit and Matter) and represents the Christ Consciousness as King (Melekim); and thus Divine Love ('for God so loved the world…' John 3:16); Apollo was fast friends with Mercury, as noted above; and Orange is composed of the harmonious combination of Red (Mars) and Yellow (Sun). Perception is an attribute of Air, represented here via [Z], Yellow; thus, 'this Head is a Representative of… a Genuine Perception of Beauty'. He is Representing Tiphareth (Sun) in Virgo through Hod (Mercury). This will enable the Transformation called for in the Esoteric Virgo during the final two Decans, advanced wheel.  **Zagriona** (6° Virgo) - All teaching in its widest sense comes under this head's sphere of influence. All teachers, writers, journalists and editors are protected by this intelligence. If the magician needs any advice in this or in a similar respect, if he needs protection, or if he desires to be successful, Zagriona will either assist him personally or send one of his beings to give help. Mercury, the Roman Hermes, himself the Egyptian Thoth was Curator, Protector and Master of Libraries (such as the Great Library of Alexandria, a Metaphysical Mythopoeic Corpus Scientifica). Mythopoeic Alexandria is a Metaphysical Center of Teaching.  **Ygilon** (7° Virgo) - is regarded as the original initiator into speech and writing. Having received orders from Divine Providence, he has caused man, since his creation, to express thoughts, terms, ideas etc. first by signs, then by articulated sounds and words, later by compound sentences and finally as a language. Then the head instructed his subordinates to see that this language was expressed externally in form of symbols in diverse ways, thereby laying the initial brick for literature as a means of communication and written tradition. But it took a long time until the language in writing reached the present state of literature. This head will make it easy for the magician dealing with the decoding of ancient, so far unrevealed, letters, and interpreting them. There are no records in writing on earth that could not be decoded by the magician with the help of this intelligence or his subordinates. Ygilon can also instruct the magician in the so-called magic of runes. Comprehension of Symbolic Language is a Faculty of the Air Tattva, in general and Cognition, per se, an attribute of [Z], Yellow; as well as the framing of Spiritual and Abstract Concepts in the Intelligible Language of Speech and Writing. The Browner colorations of Burnt Amber recognized in their Transversal Compliments (see [Notiser, 29 Virgo], below), most notably [H], (Air) are very much in evidence here.  **Alpaso** (8° Virgo) - Since the beginning of human records this head has been the protector of all poor and suppressed. In the Akasha he controls the fates of all slaves, beggars, gypsies, homeless persons, etc. He also helps persons who, by having become addicts to narcotics, are thrown out of the normal way of life, especially in cases where these people should, according to their fate, not be met by any accidents. Such people then pass every inconvenience without difficulties. Here the saying may be applied that "drunkards have a charmed life". This Chief is very Honored in the New Eden; especially among the Bohemians and the Rainbow Tribes. Under His Guidance the Peace Movement, Feminism, Equality and the Back-to-Nature Movements took hold and flourished. Jazz, Rock, and Folk Music all owe their development to Divine Providence acting through this Principal as well as much contemporary Art and the modern versions of New Age; much of this based upon (lest we forget) Beatniks.  **Kirek** (9° Virgo) - is known as an excellent initiator into alchemical magic. He shows the magician many methods by which he can strengthen the bond between the astral body and the spirit and also such methods by which he can make his astral body immune from destruction by astral elements and so reach astral immortality. If the magician asks for it, this head will instruct him in such methods by which he can cause the same effects in respect of the astral matrix, thus for his physical body, so that he is able to prolong his life as long as he wants. If the magician applies the methods given by this intelligence, age will show no effects on his body, he will never suffer from   any external influence. Wounds caused by stabs or cuts, even the strongest heat, cannot do any harm to the body sheltered in such a way. Metaphysically we would be working with the Opalescent Light, here. The Fortification of which is a Shining Fortification of all the colors of the Chromosphere as the Pastel Representative of the Spiritual All and is the surest way to extend the Life of anything.  **Buriuh** (10° Virgo) - is an excellent initiator into alchemical secrets and entrusts the magician with methods by which he can achieve diverse faculties and powers by the application of appropriate alchemical means. This intelligence reveals to the magician how to produce diverse alchemical love medicines, incense, magic ointments, oils for exteriorization and other mediumistic purposes. Apart from this, Buriuh helps with the charging and impregnation of alchemical means, either personally or by his subordinates. This Chief is quite the expert in Mediumistic Preparations.  **Yraganon** (11° Virgo) - If the magician wants to have esteem, success, honor and riches in business, this head can help him a great deal in this respect by putting at his disposal his subordinates. Apart from this, he can make the magician achieve great skill in his trade or profession. All trade men having to deal with metals, especially iron are under the special protection of this head, thus, for instance, technicians, constructors, engineers, smiths, mechanics, etc. If the magician carries out any such jobs, he can achieve great things with the help of this head of the zone girdling the earth. An intense will to succeed predetermines success in these professions.  **Argaro** (12° Virgo) - is the custodian of all relics, holy places, temples, churches, statues of saints, pictures of saints, etc. and, furthermore, of all religions of the world from the beginning of mankind up to modern ages. A magician in contact with this head will be informed by him how divine ideas, deities, etc. are symbolized by pictures of saints, statues, temples and other symbols. He also tells the magician how in turn pictures, statues, monuments are, as personified deities, true analogies of the divine ideas, concepts, etc. Argaro also explains to the magician the rites with personified deities and reveals to him their secret meaning. The picture of the Guru, his/her Icon or Murti has very definite Influential powers which only grow stronger through the years. We have spoken of this magnetization with respect to other Principals in the Virgo Zone, especially in dealing with Runes, Sigils, Talismans, and it should be noted Ideas in general, especially symbolic ones. The Realization of Projecta occur in intensified conditions of reflection and, in the case of the Cognitive Complementals, manifestation and condensification. The point here, though, is Divine Analog.  **Algebol** (13° Virgo) - is the expert and leader of all traditional religious rites, rituals and ceremonies of all religious systems. He may justly be regarded as a master of ceremonies. He acquaints the magician with all ceremonies, rituals and customs of any religion or sect, historical or modern, and explains to him their significance, thus enabling the magician to realize the full magical value, the power or dynamics of a ritual or ceremony. Extensively employed for experiential TPR in such Sororities as the Worthy Matrons of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Fraternities, etc., Brahmanic Priestliness and of course High Mass.  **Karasa** (14° Virgo) - is the protector of all medical doctors in the world. Even the medicine -men of the days of yore looked up to this head of the zone girdling the earth with devotion and made him sacrifices. But even nowadays doctors, especially surgeons, are inspired by this intelligence. Karasa arranges that certain sick people are cured by certain physicians. The whole chemical-pharmaceutical production comes under the range of his powers. The sick magician who seeks the help of this head will get from him the exact diagnosis and will be told ways and remedies by which he can recover his physical health. The Archangel of Hod (Mercury) is of course Raphael ('it is God who heals'). Consider this in relation to Cognition (the diagnosis aspect) and the Christ Consciousness ('there is much Healing in the name of Christ'); also with respect to Harmony, (virtue of the Sephirah Tiphareth). The Integration of the Personality with the Individuality (Spiritual Self) is found to be the curative factor, because the Vital force of the Living Spirit is able to express Itself in non-aberrated ways through the Wholesome and Rectified Vessel. Concerning the Chemical Therapeutics, it should be understood that the Metaphysical Chemistry is undergone via the Emotional Faculties in relating the Ideas to the Physical framework. This corresponds to the Moisture magnetizing the Thoughts (Air) to the Earthen Matrix in the Concentrated Light. Proper cross-reference ('diagnosis') is a beneficial aid to this, though the Chemicals work below the Cognitive level. 'Diagnoses', like Talismans and Runes work magnetically in the pre-conscious through the charged symbols. Therefore it is of utmost importance that the light by which such (emotionally) charged symbols are seen (dia-gnosis) should be a Revelation through Divine Light, not paranoia.  **Akirgi** (15° Virgo) - The magician may summon this head in all business matters, for he will always secure him the biggest success. Akirgi has a special affection for everything that has to do with paper or textiles. His influence, however, also covers the working up of furs, skins, leather, and the like, so that the magician will be supported by this intelligence not only in business affairs, but will also be able to get from him special recipes for the working up of furs, leather, etc. The magician may also be taught about many methods for the working up of paper and about impregnation materials which so far have not yet been made known to the public. It may be of interest to the student to note that having established that each Tree is inhabited by its particular Dryad ('Dyr' or 'Tyr' being the Universal word for Tree, from which the word Druid has come to us) and that the Greeks believed that they lived and died along with their Tree. But modern Industry has prolonged the life of Trees through the various Forestry Products, notably Paper and Furnishings, also the skeleton of the wood-frame house. Each of these may be worked up and 'enlivened' so that they become vivacious extensions of the Expression of Holy Living Being. With regard to textures it is also worth noting that hair in general and by extension furs, are not subject to digestion and decompositions at the ordinary rate of most other matter (though more so than an igneous rock, naturally). By this the student of Magic may understand such 'strange' phenomena as talking hats and speaking papers. The 'working up' of such things is indeed quite special.  **Basanola** (16° Virgo) - Since this head controls all vegetation, he may be regarded as the protector of agriculture and forestry. He is an expert in this respect, and the magician who gets into touch with him may learn a great deal from him. Apart from giving methods and instructions for effecting a good growth of plants, this head also instructs the magician in special magic Qabalistic methods by which growth of plants can be accelerated or delayed, depending on what the magician wishes. So very important are the subjects of Spiritual Ecology and Esoteric Agro-Forestry, especially when one takes into account the **Tree** of Life and the interior Vegetation of the Psyche. Bio-Dynamics are not at all restricted to organic feed-stocks and diatomaceous gravels but a complex overlay of Spiritual Recognition Perceivable only by something akin to Divine Revelation in Its Refulgent Livelihood. Joyously cultivate your Inner Farmer!  **Rotor** (17° Virgo) - is a master of fantastic vision. Under his competence come all sagas, fairy-tales and stories. This head inspires all those poets and writers who are occupied with the production of sagas, fairy- tales and stories. Rotor provides them with an excellent power of imagination and lets them express this in suitable words. He likes to hide true events and magic secrets by fairy-tales, so that the magician, having called him, is given the appropriate explanations as to what each fairytale contains from the hermetic point of view. Cinema has been his latest venue, I suspect.  **Tigrapho** (18° Virgo) - is a master of architecture and the art of structural engineering. From the beginning of mankind he has instructed man how he should dwell. Tigrapho is regarded the protector of all builders and architects on earth and assists them by inspirations in their design-work, no matter whether they are designing highways, river basins, water works or anything of that sort. If the magician is in this profession, Tigrapho may help him a great deal by intuition. Engineers are a fascinating and beneficial bunch. Many Engineers reside in Virgo. The Public Works sector does and amazing job with their excellently designed Interstate Highway System where every detail is of utmost quality. If you pay attention to the setting and back-ground scenery of major dreams, you will notice the excellent works of Tigrapho there, often in the form of canals and pedestrian conduits. Attentive students will recall that Hermes is quite the Traveler.  **Cobel** (19° Virgo) - is able to initiate the magician into the art of magic scents. From this head the magician learns to compose harmonious and inharmonious scents, for instance, scents that cause love and sympathy or optional dreams, or scents which can increase one's power of concentration; scents for meditations, incense materials for diverse magic experiments, etc. The magician may also be told by Cobel details concerning osmotherapy, i. e. the treatment of diseases by scents. Osmotherapy is currently in vogue and one may even practice this in licensed settings. Beyond the clinical sanitaria however, are knowledge and relationships with cherished Beings who feature Osmotics. Be prepared, though; it is a bit unusual!  **Hipogo** (20° Virgo) - Everything that has to do with water and its relation to man falls under the competence of this head; thus, for instance, swimming, diving, moving along the surface of waters in all kinds of vessels, beginning from the simplest raft up to the most up to date steamship. Hipogo is the inspirer of ship-building, including the construction of submarines and everything that moves on or in the water and is built by men. If the magician is interested, this head will allow him to look into the most distant future to see all technical inventions to come in respect of mankind moving along the water. The keen student will be reminded of the Nereids and their Benevolence toward ship-wrecked sailors. Not only that, but man-o-man! Can these Captains pilot a vessel (hold on to the reigns!)  **Iserag** (210 Virgo) - is regarded as the conveyor of fortune to mankind. He brings luck in games, competitions, at the stock exchange, in speculations and ventures of any kind. The magician who has this head as his friend will have every wish fulfilled in the physical world, he will be fortunate and successful in everything he undertakes. This head will also entrust him with methods which will give him happiness and contentment in any respect. Remember the Lord in Gratitude and Thanksgiving and don't forget the offering of First-Fruits to the Spirit; be sure to tithe 1/10th of all Proceeds. Take care of the Widows and Children. Be quick to offer Charity and Assistance.  **Breffeo** (22° Virgo) - can be regarded as custodian of material laws and of justice. In every case where the magician is in the right this head will see that the matter is decided in the magician's favor. **Breffeo punishes, either personally or by one of his subordinates, any person that will do the magician injustice or who intends to do so, without the magician necessarily knowing about it**. People who persecute the magician will be maliciously punished by Breffeo's subordinate spirits, especially if the magician has had, or still has, good connections to this head. Often under the influence of intense Stellar stimulation, tamasic personalities will succumb to the perpetration of injustices against their neighbor. It is all under the jurisprudence of the Laws of Circulation and Redemption. Obviously, if injustice is rewarded and lawfulness in punished, the Kingdom will become populated with crooks and the Righteous will become sparse. By Divine Providence, this Noble Benefactor applies Remediation towards such an imbalance. Those who Practice Devotional Graces (such as Good-Will, Benevolence, Christianity and Forgiveness) will clearly appreciate the fact that Breffeo performs this Service without the Sedaka necessarily knowing about it. Thereby is Order maintained without undue compassion towards the perpetrators of injustice.  **Elipinon** (23° Virgo) - By this head the magician is instructed and trained in all mantic arts according to the laws of analogy, no matter whether fortune-telling with cards, the tarot game, I-Ging, chiromancy, horoscopy, or anything of that sort is involved. Elipinon makes it possible for the magician to become a prophet by the training of the mantic arts and he helps him in becoming a genuine expert in this respect. Mantic experts all over the world are under the control of this head of the zone girdling the earth. Mantic Divination first arose to determine the Will of God (therefore 'El' + 'Opinion'), but quickly became a tool to direct mundane affairs; not that the two are anything other than a continuum. The Laws of Analogy are a favorite consonance, for example among the Living Tarot.  **Naniroa** (24° Virgo) - guards the property of every person. The magician who has this head as his special friend has his property protected by his subordinates against all kinds of catastrophe, not only fire, thunderstorms, floods, but also against burglary, theft, etc. Naniroa will make him acquainted with methods by which a thief can be forced to return the stolen articles, or influenced in such a manner that he will betray himself. Also other magic practices for the recovery of lost goods can be learned from this head. A most well-respected Benefactor. Even if one practices ultra-Christian Forgiveness, it is interesting (and fun) to watch the perpetrators impugn themselves. Metaphysically speaking, Recovery of Lost Goods is a far-reaching topic.  **Olaski** (25° Virgo) - is the original initiator of all vehicles and means for transportation on the dry ground, starting from the simple cart up to the most modern automobile. If the magician wants to get certain information on this field, or if he wants to make technical improvements and new inventions, he will find his best master and assistant in this head. If he has a good contact with this intelligence, he can be sure to be especially well protected in his vehicle on dry land. During former connections with this head I was able to look into the far future in the Akasha principle to see vehicles no longer driven by combustion engines or atomic power. Quite a different kind of fuel will be used for the vehicles of transportation in the far future and will move them along at an incredible speed without any noise or odor. However, I was forbidden to reveal any details about this. The future alone will prove it true and that every new invention has long before been laid down in the Akasha- principle. The latest model EV's have arrived.  **Hyrmiua** (26° Virgo) - is a mighty protector of human consciousness on our earth. The average man would hardly be able to comprehend the range of power of this head. He prevents, for instance, the consciousness of the average man from travelling beyond the limits of the physical world. However, he allows the magician to enlarge the capacity of his consciousness, depending on his magical maturity. In other words: this head controls the development and maturity of each human being. He decides whether a person suffering from disturbances of his consciousness, an insane man or woman, should become healthy again and regain his normal state of mind. If this intelligence approves of his recovery, the psychiatrist will succeed in making the person completely sane again. Hyrmiua also controls all those people committing suicide, whose deed is not carried out under the conditions of Karma, so that they do not regain their consciousness in the astral world before the period has elapsed which they should have lived on earth. Not before the expiration of this certain period will suicides awake from their twilight sleep to get their full astral consciousness. Much more could be said about this head; but, however, these hints will be enough for the magician; if he gets into contact with this intelligence, he will never go astray mentally and will be given, by this intelligence, the power to read the consciousness of every man and to influence it. For instance, he could make him memorize pictures of the past or else delete such pictures completely from his memory. The magician learns from this head how to carry out a transference of consciousness in the magical manner, which, in the orient, is known under the name of "Abhisheka" or "Ankhur". We have alluded to this Benefactor in the general notes regarding the Stellar Influences of Mizar, et al. Those in the Helping Professions will be keen to see the utility of deleting mental imagery, especially the obsessive and terrifying kind. For the Practicing Seeker, the expansion of consciousness into the Planes beyond the physical and the Abhisheka are certainly of interest.  **Sumuram** (27° Virgo) - is the master of all animals of the air. From the smallest fly up to the noble eagle all come under his protection. To the magician in contact with this head will be revealed all the secrets of flying animals. If the magician wishes it, Sumuram will show him methods and give him instructions by which he can gain the power of controlling every animal of the air. By using appropriate words the magician, for instance, succeeds in forcing the greediest eagle or vulture to come down from great heights and to sit down without anxiety on the shoulders of the magician. He can tame any bird of prey in a manner that it will play with children and not harm the tiniest animal. Many other magic arts in respect of the animal kingdom, which to the average man must sound incredible, can be carried out by the magician. Many former Raptors are now experimenting with vegetarianism (especially via the Nut Trees [Air Tattva] and have been quite successful with it), under Sumuram's Directorship. The Corvids have practiced successful vegetarianism for a long time now.  **Astolitu** (28° Virgo) - is a special custodian of many magic keys and secrets. In our present state of development he leads and controls the aeronautics of the whole world with all its inventions. He can give the magician many inspirations in this respect. To the magician of the highest rank he reveals the secrets of gravitation and instructs him in the practical application of the power of gravity. Long before our civilization - many thousand years ago - our earth was inhabited by people with a high civilization who were far advanced in comparison to us in the techniques of aviation. To them gravity was no problem. They moved without motors or using gas to the highest altitudes reaching speeds equivalent to the rotational speed of our earth, transported without any effort and without mechanical help the heaviest loads from one place to another. After their ruin, which they had themselves brought about, Astolitu, the head of the zone girdling the earth took the keys back to himself again and now keeps them safely up to that day when mankind will have reached the necessary maturity and degree of development. In the Akasha-principle, there has never been anything lost, for everything remains registered there. Only the highest magicians can read everything in the Akasha-principle, which necessarily must remain a secret to the normal world. Forgive me for pointing out the Word 'Atlantis'.  **Notiser** (29° Virgo) - Intellect and knowledge of every human being in the physical world are under the protection of this head of the zone girdling the earth. Depending on the state of maturity of a person, he controls his capacity of perception and makes him know things that are appropriate to his momentary degree of development. This head can therefore be justly regarded as master of knowledge, for it is by his influence that a man's intellect on this earth is sharpened, his memory is enlarged, no matter with which field of science the person is dealing. The magician is given instructions by this head which, if he follows them, enable him to increase the capacity of his intellect and to strengthen his memory. Notiser informs the magician about any field of science and he provides all fields of science with that amount of knowledge that can be comprehended by man in their present state of development. In Chromatic MQ, we conceptualize the Faculties of Central Cognition as a certain Consciousness in a Certain Light. From this Perspective we are employing [Z], Golden Yellow, Cognition. Few people realize how very related the Yellow is to the Brown; they are found in fact along the same Central Pillar. Many of the Golden Tinctures in Nature are found to stain Brownish as they Oxidize (Volatize off) and/or Age. Note that the Sigils of the Virgo Principals are drawn in a Brown color. This will represent an Earthier instance of the Cognitivity. The Complement of the Golden Yellow Lies in the Purple band of Frequencies. We are customarily placing the Purple Pillar vertically upon the Chromatic Sphere as our spine would relate to the Human Anatomy. The usual presentation puts the Cognitive band up-front and the Complement round back. Sometimes a relationship is formed directly across from color to color at the same level (degree of density) and sometimes the Bridge occurs transversally with respect to (density) level, looking more 'stair-like' and less like a 'bridge'. Paying attention to this gives us a wide range of complements from Cognition of Symbolic Language to Manifestation of Cognates. Both selections are at work here in the Scientific context (Knowledge is Science) ranging from comprehension of Symbolic Logic to the 'Manifestation' (Noticing) of Known Things. If we turn now to the Road-Map version, we will find that we may employ the 'Invisible' Sephirah Daath as the representation of Science (Da'ath means Knowledge) and since Perception is a feature of the Air Tattva, we will understand at once why Notiser should 'control the capacity of perception, knowing things that are appropriate to his momentary (in that instance) degree of development' (Relative Perfection). Regarding this 'capacity'; Capacitors are semi-conductors which serve to insulate and block the flow until sufficient charge is built up at which time they suddenly switch 'on' (Aha!) and also serve as in-line battery-packs which regulate any deviation in continuity. Such a 'capacity of perception' would then be rendered dependable, not fickle (an Earthier state of Cognitivity). Both the Yellow [Z] and the Brown [T] are excellent in the 'strengthening of Memory' and 'increase in Capacity of Intellect'.  It is well that 'Notiser' should be a master of that which we 'notice'.  **Regerio** (30° Virgo) - The last head of the zone girdling the earth under the zodiacal sign of Virgo, Regerio, is the custodian of many mysteries of wisdom and sees that true wisdom is only made accessible to virtually mature people. If, however, it should happen that magic secrets become known to the immature and unauthorized, this custodian of the mysteries of wisdom blocks the way to wisdom for these unauthorized persons by shrouding them in darkness with unbelief, suspicion, self-conceit and one-sided views, leaving the true mysteries covered and occult to him even though they may be stored in thousand drawers of the immature. The magician who succeeds in getting into contact with Regerio is taught by him to realize the difference between knowledge and wisdom by intuition. Noting that 'the Spirit of Vayu is Wisdom', the rest is self-explanatory; except perhaps to note that 'knowledge' [Violet, the Spine, Reflexes, Nervous System] deals mostly with Exteriorities (or our Perceptions and Relations to them) while Wisdom is 'Eso'-teric, from within (intuitive), via the Spirit.  Now we are finally able to understand the full significance of the Esoteric Journey of Virgo upon the Great Wheel… **Virgo** **On the Ordinary Wheel** And the Word said:  **_"Let matter reign"_** **Decanates** **Step One: Physical Man** August 22nd to September 1st **Venus** Treading the way of the Ordinary Wheel the sign of Virgo is entered clockwise from right to left via **Venus in the first decan**, **Saturn in the central decan** and **Mercury in the third**. The characteristic stature of the active Venusian physical body is small, well formed, well-proportioned and closely knit. Even however, in the large Venusian type there is a basic smallness of feature, such as in hands, fingers, feet and toes, nose and ears, and overall an inherent feminine delicacy. Facial lines are delicately shaped, appearing small and regular. The eyes tend to be small with a characteristic expression of frankness, simplicity and inquisitiveness. The physical beauty of the Virgin depends upon the regularity of features and fineness of form. If well-endowed there is an appearance of a real gentleness, plastic beauty and physical charm. Evolved Venusian types are always refined, immaculately presented, handsome, tasteful and suitably dressed. Under recessive Venusian influence the eyes appear decidedly cold, cunning and unsympathetic. In the active type in sharp contrast, the eyes express a clear, keen sympathy and open intelligence. Hazel or gray eyes are common but sometimes blue, as we should naturally expect under Venus. The mouth and nose tend to be regular, small and straight. Characteristically the hair, light, dark or indeterminate appears wavy, with unusual shade and contrast in the light, standing up and away from the forehead in a striking manner. As the inevitable working out of the Law of Cause and Effect—or Karma—in the sign of health, we observe manifold types of physical deformities, lameness, speech impediments, sterility and obscure degenerative diseases. In the recessive type the head is broad-skulled and unduly large for the body, while the face is homely, rather aggressive, sometimes even overbearing in appearance. The eyes have a characteristically unintelligent expression, are generally deep-set and often beady. The very gross mouth or lips occasionally observed are also a physiognomic trait seen in other Venus-ruled Decans. The skin of the face looks stretched, thin, tight, wrinkled and dry—decidedly lacking in moisture in contrast to the opposite sign Pisces. The overall appearance has a hardness, gauntness, sparseness; somewhat—to use a metaphor—like a barren harvest or famine. Under the rulership of Venus it often seems that the mundane subject is doomed to hard work without reward or appreciation, shining best as a frugal and profitless servant carrying on their activities with strict attention to rules and duty. Consecration to service and duty on any level is the Virgin's hallmark. Concentration and energy is expended in obediently carrying out the dictates of the patron or employer in the proper and appropriate manner with clean hands, pure heart, sound health and good works. The Venusian type here does not seek to receive blessings, praise or thanks, and neither is inclined to give them out to others, but solely attempts to diligently fulfil his or her contracts faithfully and earnestly through application of honest workmanship. Under Venus though, success will eventually come after many lifetimes of experience, notably in the creative arts—especially literature, drama or painting which are governed by Venus. In the early stages of physical development the Virgin does not have a strong tendency to abuse pleasure and so lives a quiet, regular and active life. The usual lure of the physical senses under Venus is modified so that the sensate world often has no great appeal. The soul is just beginning the work of developing a discriminative faculty, a responsive sensory apparatus; one might say a refined palate. The incarnated soul is developing creative intelligence, which grants mastery of a minute perfectionism, meticulous precision, careful measurement and attention to details. It is the intensity of the soul's thought behind the perfection of the form which must be appreciated and noted. The Virgoan ever dedicatedly strives, albeit unconsciously to begin with, for the perfection and beauty of the form. Venus is ever connected in our minds with fertility and sexual potency, but in the sign of the fall harvest it often produces a sterility. Venusians have an innate instinct for purity and chastity, and are naturally repelled for instance by literature dealing with explicit, morbid or unwholesome sexual relations. The rulership of the physical decan by Venus accounts for the Virgin's acceptance of celibacy, and also the fruitfulness of the Virgoan in carrying out many good works. They care little for prosperity or posterity so long as they can serve 'here and now', focusing on those around them in their immediate environment. Venus here representing the incarnated soul, during the first stage is hidden in the form—symbolically the womb of the Virgin—which is the nurturing force of substance itself. It is hidden and protected by the Mother, the nurturer and shield. The life of the Mother at this stage is more important than the life of the Son. Virgin Matter has attracted the soul and the life of the soul is hidden. During the first stage therefore, the materialistic aspect of the Mother dominates and the individual life expression is characterized by the selfish personality nature. Aeons later on the Reverse Wheel, the physical form will reveal and release the indwelling soul. Then Venus, the savior of the world, appears and nurtures the hidden souls in Virgo. Although every facet of nature provides a worthy basis for investigation, nature itself must be appreciated from inside out and can never be fully comprehended if only observed from the outside. From the deeply subjective point of view, Venus stimulates the inner germinating energy of mind, the eventual creative force behind consciousness itself. Ultimately, in the due course of time, in Virgo the inner beauty of the soul is discovered and its secrets laid bare. The pure Virgoan type is a true child of the spirit whose sense of purity, peace and beauty is profound, and eventually becomes transformed into the radiant form of a god or goddess glowing with all the splendors of the soul. **Step Two: Emotional Man** September 1st to 10th **Saturn** Saturn produces difficult and painful circumstances (cf. the influences of Alioth and Mizar under non-propitious Karmic aspects) which force the Virgoan to make a choice in matters of love, work, relations and friendships. The undeveloped emotional type is characterized by chronic discontent, (ibid.) all manner of indecencies and ill humor. They really are quite cantankerous, and capable of rebuffing the kindest remonstrance from a well-meaning person with complete denial or defiance. Initially the astral Virgin is prone to see the dark side of everything. Suffering, resisting and quarreling with every imposed condition or small limitation is the norm. Adverse circumstances are invariably blamed for loneliness or failures. Saturn does produce stability and can and does aid in the creation of intimate and enduring friendships, but these continue only so long as there is a community of shared values. Divergent points of view are not tolerated by the immature emotional type and lead to separation. Disagreeable, ill-tempered and certainly prone to snap and growl, (ibid) they cannot adapt to changes which have emotional implications beyond their limited range of feelings. Needless to say, it is not difficult to understand why an emotional temperament under Saturn lacks enthusiasm and dwells within a straightjacket of constrained feelings. Security is found in the grinding mill of placid routine and the schedule of dreary drudgery without enterprise. When it comes to the administration of duties, responsibilities and tasks at home or at work the negative emotionally polarized Virgin performs her functions with real resentment, disdain and lack of kindness. If you were sick, for instance, this is not the nurse that you would want to take care of you. The Virgoan temperament can be the most denigrating, dry, rigid, cold, dark, acerbic, inhospitable, sterile, stifling, frustrated and repressive in the entire zodiac. The recessive type therefore can be decidedly unhappy, unduly harsh, grim, dark, morbid, troubled, rude, callous, unyielding, non-accepting, heavy, critical, inaccurate, caustic, stifling, puritanical, petty, insecure, fearful, passive and melancholic. At the height of emotional selfishness the Virgin is manipulative, unable to let go, controlling, authoritarian, forcing, unforgiving, cutting, biting, gossiping, chattering, sarcastic, insensitive, misdirected, isolated and judgmental. Affection or simple kindness is not the line of least resistance, so inferiors, patients or clients are routinely treated with unkindness and lack of sympathy. Perhaps ironically, Virgoans can also be insincerely lavish in affection. As irrational human passion is not known or understood there is no opportunity to be swept away or lost in the beloved. The concept of self-surrender is not grasped, but then neither is the notion of conquest. As a consequence we find no great emotional arousal here. Love affairs are few and usually remain unsatisfying, **embittered** (cf. 'dry' wines, 'bitters' and bitter herbs) and unfortunate. When outward signs and tokens of appreciation, admiration and attention are not evidenced, the emotional type appears cold and indifferent. Saturn's influence accounts for many unfortunate relations, bitter frustrations and resentful feelings. Living introverted lives like hermits or becoming recluses in their own workplace or home, these Virgoans are certainly not the frivolous or light-hearted members of our human family. As the causes are emotional not physical, internal abscesses, stomach problems and ulcerations are common forms of suffering and difficult to treat, cure or heal. Keep in mind though, Saturn's influence also accounts for the humble nature of the sign type. Possessing an unconscious sense of shortcomings or a given lot in life, they are always content to accept less. On the positive or active side the emotionally mature Virgin is precise, gentle, caring, nurturing, soft, open, satisfied, poised, observant, investigative, thorough, unrestricted, accepting, aware, idealistic, convincing and adaptive. Capable of great self-denial for their loved-one, often however they choose to remain unmarried because no-one can measure up to the minimal standards of perfection they require. They are known for being highly structured, unremitting, tireless, organized, reliable and conscientious. Rendering service and aid to those who they believe deserve it, they will not lift a finger to aid those who do not work or are lazy or in some other way do not measure up. They are fair, honest, simple, prudent, unpretentious, patient, methodical, capable, constructive, witty, sympathetic, accepting, tasteful and diligent. In the work place they are serious, determined, effective, efficient, shrewd, dynamic and honorable. In the home and family they are devoted, persevering, well-equipped and observant. In personal taste and manner they are aesthetic, elegant, tasteful and well directed. A complete openness to all people, emotions and situations enables the mature Virgoan to earnestly begin to discern the true from the false. They have a heart of gold—not easily melted, but when the heart is open it glows with brilliant luminosity, warmth and heat. The pure golden flame of true Virgoan love and affection rivals anything else found in any other sign of the zodiac. They know how people suffer, have learned to open their hearts and gained a realization of the sweetness, fragility and preciousness of life. They create a healing influence helping and serving others, and their presence is felt like a panacea. A growing sense of the wondrous beauty of life enables them to transform ugliness and chaos into beauty and order. A basic goodness and immense gratitude for being alive leads to the production of fruitful work and the cultivation of a devotional attitude. **Step Three: Mental Man** September 10th to 21st **Mercury** In the third decan the power of Mercury produces conflict and duality which ultimately results in the right use of the critical aspect of the mind as the interpretive faculty in life. In the early stages however the outlook is very petty—perhaps microscopic is a better word. After all, at the rudimentary mental stage a sense of proportion, balance and common sense are severely lacking. Here the thinker is incapable of producing anything inspired by the genius of their inner essence or spirit. To speak in symbols: not yet impregnated they are unable to conceive, so can appear quite cold, materialistic, soulless and sterile. Industrious nonetheless, they adapt their limited resources to the demands and necessities of their tiny sphere of work, with their horizon bounded by the circle of duty. As a rule they are not a dominant people but are well organized and incredibly efficient. In this decan Virgoans seem unable to overcome handicaps and limitations as they inwardly quarrel with every adverse situation and circumstance. Here we find unstable minds self-absorbed in suffering, lacking confidence and composure. Highly skeptical, the rudimentary mind is busy tearing things and people apart. They can be very worrisome people full of agitation and also quite impossible to please. Intolerance, imbalance, disharmony and lack of equilibrium remain lifelong problems. On the recessive side also, it is vital to note that (certain Stars, acting through..) Mercury over-stimulates the expression of impatience, irritability, ill humor and chronic discontent, thus often affecting the health and restricting the activities of work and service. Frequent ill health, constant turmoil, mistakes and poor diet do take a great toll. Ironically in this sign of health, Virgoans do not really know how to care for themselves, and they are fully capable of toiling unremittingly and dying from overwork. While the personality struggles for stability, the Mercurial mind develops through the advent of constant crisis. In time nerves of steel are developed without feelings of fear, timidity or doubt. When sufficiently evolved the mental apparatus is known for its quick reactions, its capacity to promptly and accurately express immediate responses to external stimuli. The combination of a highly developed and concentrated mind along with cool emotions is a real asset in the fields of sport, fashion or in social life. Eventually an exceedingly articulate, rational and concrete mental faculty is produced. In time the thinker becomes ever more critical, concentrated, rational, observant and analytical. The advanced mental type attempts to cultivate the perfect mind for exact science, with marvelous powers of lucidity, discrimination, separation and classification. Consequently the clear-headed Virgoan makes an excellent worker in the factory, garage, field, home, laboratory, library, clinic, business or research office. Minute observations are natural to them, as is the ability to make careful measurement. They are excellent communicators, researchers and expert commentators in all fields. They are continually making minute adjustments attempting to harmonize and blend all elements within a given situation. This is practically impossible to accomplish without the submergence of personal ambition, a steady preservation of an inner contact, inner sensitivity, a decided emphasis on essentials and the ability to overlook personality reactions. Lacking in spontaneity, excitement or adequate appreciation of certain basic appetites or natural pleasures, the Virgoan thinker is definitely non-intuitive. Their lives are restricted by a small range of personal interests. Often they live a lonely, isolated life. Overcome at times with frustration and depression, they are easily discouraged by the smallness of the part they have to play. Endeavoring to fit themselves for the functions of their work they do succeed in developing a strong inner integrity. They develop many varied forms of inner creativity. Through the right direction and orientation of the thought processes the purpose of the thinker is fulfilled. As they ascend into the higher mental planes the pulsating inner life increases its rate of vibration. The greater the increase, the more consciously they work in a creative manner. Virgoans have a strong inherent sense of beauty and the capacity to produce, create and express. As progress is made in the elevation of the thought processes the mind becomes increasingly potent, overcoming early impotence. Thus, at the acme of the third rung, the evolved Mercurial type expresses real finesse and refinement. Artistic and aesthetic sensibilities are now sublimated to the highest possible levels. Mercury bestows many gifts, including a fighting or sporting spirit, musical ability, literary talents, spontaneity, improvisation and an ability to amuse, delight and entertain. Rapidly unfolding and struggling to develop a balanced perspective, whether or not scientifically or artistically inclined they learn to produce in some practical form through some creative or scientific medium. As a general rule it is apparent that the Virgoan does not like strong contrasts of color, exaggeration or overly dramatic expression. Evolved types are known for their clear style, concise mastery of detail, keenness, judgment, moral criticism, strength and the polish of their writing. As they perfect their technique they truly excel in the mastery of details, and they can become prolific and quite capable of adapting their genius to the marketplace. Some are caught in the crippling weakness of moral cowardice, tortured ambivalence, vacillation or indecisiveness, and all of these must be overcome. Here they eventually develop a real facility for bringing harmony out of conflict and grow psychologically through points of constant struggle and crisis. Dissonant crosscurrents of energy have an exaggerated effect on the temperamental, moody, over-sensitive Mercurial type. So as a result they must learn to master the ability to make peace, create reconciliation and demonstrate a mental facility for achieving compromise, mediation and the bridging of differences. As evolutionary development becomes more rapid under Mercury the "star of conflict", their lives are characterized by constant movement, change, differentiation, continuous building and breaking. They make plans only to see those plans aborted, disrupted or destroyed. Their lives are filled with ceaseless suffering, frequent reaction to environing circumstances, numerous friendships begun and ended, and the agony of ceaseless mutation. Through adaptability and a consciously cultivated pliability they learn to progress with less disruption and so overcome fixed and crystallized habits and routines. Dreams, visions and ideals are realized then discarded, and friends are left behind. All are transcended and then just seen as stations on the road. As they near the end of the material Path the cup is bitter indeed to drink and their lives seem utterly bereft. Unconscious of their innate soul, unconscious of the truth of their own being but realizing profoundly the ephemeral nature of the form—and of all forms—they stand utterly alone with naught else. There is a true analogy here with the gestation period of an infant, the importance of its right placement in the womb, the breaking of the waters and the psychological release and expression of the Virgoan upon the physical plane. The key to the release of the burden of the Virgin comes about by cultivating responsiveness, aiming at mental expansion and emotional plasticity, in loving and continuous learning. The conclusion of the third step is gained through the conscious effort to express the realization of the purpose of their creative life work. Through experience they have learned to center their forces on the mental plane and from there accomplish their purpose in generating those creative and imaginative thought forms which will mold and inspire the minds of others. According to the clarity of vision and the depth of inner realization, so will be the strength of the life given birth and its capacity to perform its intended function. A growing conviction as to the existence of the soul which is the Self is evidenced at the apex of the third step. A structure of right living, conduct and thinking has been attained. The physical form that the soul is to occupy has been built and now the three-fold personality is to be vivified and consciously dwelled within. Evolution has carried forward the perfection of the physical mechanism to such an extent that it is now a coordinated, integrated organism, a structure ready for the use of the soul. Through wrestling with matter over long aeons, the truth of their inner Self finally emerges into the light. Knowledge takes the place of theory and direct evidence takes the place of speculation. Conviction as to the life of the soul then takes place and direct investigation begins. An analysis of the nature, purpose and life of the soul receives full attention, for nothing can now arrest its birth upon the physical plane. The soul life enters the prepared personality and the inner germ which has lain dormant is fostered and brought to birth. **Virgo** **On the Reverse Wheel** And the Word said:  **_"I am the Mother and the Child. I, God, I, Matter am"_** **Decanates** **Step Four: Man the Aspirant** August 22nd to September 1st **Mercury** Upon the anti-clockwise Wheel the sign of Virgo is entered via Mercury in the first decan, Saturn in the central decan and Venus in the third. You are the custodian, protector and shrine of the inner, living soul. Now is the time to create the 'good ground', the cradle of nurturing loving-kindness. Your initiatory goal (to speak in symbols) is to be both mother and child—to guard, shield, cherish, nurture and give birth to the indwelling soul. You are fully equipped and fitted to manifest your soul, to make tangible and objective that for which your whole creative evolutionary process is intended. For this task you have steadily improved, adjusted, aligned and oriented your personality and made it more responsive to contact and to the environment. The stage of gestation, the dark time wherein your soul was hidden, is over. Now you are in the time of your soul-infancy upon the physical plane. Adolescence is attained at the fifth step; adult status and full maturity at the sixth. In time a state of mindfulness and pure perception begins to replace your analytic, rational and concrete thinking. This signals that the sublimation of intellect into intuition is now rapidly beginning to occur. The intuitive power of Mercury will enable you to begin to overcome your material identifications with the form side of life. Do not allow a sense of personal singularity or unique response to spiritual vision, or any feelings of inadequacy, feebleness or weakness to hold you back. This Mercurial stimulation is a healing force which through the power of the indwelling soul will eventually bring you to a relatively perfected state; although only when you become at-one and integrated. The power of Mercury to produce beauty, harmony and unity (Sun, actually) you have dedicated in service to the personality. The various aspects of your personality equipment must be blended into one functioning interrelated unity under the control of the soul. This personality integration will only be won with great difficultly and pain. It is your task now to become the personification of the spiritual warrior and summon the determination to stand in spiritual being regardless of the forces arraigned against you. One of the keywords for the esoteric process associated with the fourth step is steadfastness. Try to attain the qualities of persistence, endurance and continuity ([Z], cognizance; Sun) of effort. Even if not victorious here, you must practice spiritual patience and endeavor to overcome all perception of defeat, failure or loss. Learn to cultivate a sane, serene and wise handling of your life circumstances. Endeavoring to do all, stand and hold ground; then with victory you will enter the Path of Accepted Discipleship. Do not become discouraged but work, live and above all, love. Demonstrate a steadfast, stable capacity to serve and meet the needs of your group brothers. Express a gentle outgoing inclusiveness and an attitude of patient loving which allows others to reveal themselves to you. Show a deep interest in others and try to understand their weaknesses and strengths, their failures and aspirations. Seek to enter more fully into their consciousness through a greater measure of identification and thus comprehend more intelligently what service and training they truly require that you are able to provide. Learn to serve within your group without separativeness, and strive to overcome your personality hindrances ([R], Gold). Serve through the potency of loving relationship. The task of blending into the spiritual group is ever a challenge in the life of all aspirants. Therefore train yourself to become a pure channel, subordinating your personality desires and ambitions to group purpose. Prepare yourself through the practices of purity and discipline. Work at establishing the necessary routine and rhythm in your group work. Make a constant effort to apply yourself more steadily to your meditation work. Readjust your values and restructure your daily schedule to include times for quiet contemplation. Endeavor to work each day with a conscious, definite program organizing your time to best advantage. Through perseverance and rightly motivated purpose will come the reward of spiritual revelation and entrance onto the Path of Discipleship. At all times strive to maintain a balanced perspective. A true state of equilibrium must be established based on inner calmness and tranquility. Your highly fertile, keen and active mind is often quite inaccurate, too intense, over-analytical and pays undue attention to details; therefore do not rush. Take time to speak, to make decisions, to form opinions. At times your life experience will be unpleasant and even arid, but at least the insights glimpsed under Mercury have ended the futility of a life spent in pursuit of personality happiness and the mirages of desire. The old and traditional ways no longer evoke accustomed reactions. You have recognized the constraints of habit, custom, ordinary routine and familiar responses and have released all attachment to them. With the aid of Mercury your knowledge will be transformed into wisdom, actuating and clarifying your motivations. The illuminating energy of pure reason begins to pour down into your increasingly clarified and organized astral body. Your goal is to establish an organized body of sentient response in order to become a "sensitive revealer" of love. Victory occurs when the personality can access the wisdom which utilizes all forms of knowledge in the furtherance of the life-plan of the soul. It is the intense stimulation of the soul which enables you to work as an illuminating agent in the world of men. To do this you must demonstrate a steadily increasing sensitivity to your inner spiritual identity. You are on the "Lighted Way" and your soul will guide you through to an assured understanding and to enduring peace. The light of Mercury successively reveals to you that which lies ahead; those higher realms of awareness which you know you will eventually attain. Mercury reveals to you, the one upon the Way of Light, that the light lives, moves and functions within your very Self. Make use of this light to ascertain your next spiritual step towards wisdom. Seek revelation of the location or source of the necessary information or instruction. Demonstrate an ever-increasing facility in using the "light available" to initiate creative projects in line with the plan of the soul. Learn to relinquish the gains of your service and sacrifice and serve without attachment to results, to means, to persons or to praise. When the aspirant stands on the verge of the Path of Accepted Discipleship any small glamour can disrupt the intention of their service. Consider this: Your highly accomplished personality with its aims and ambitions, its intelligence and experience, in itself constitutes a potent glamour. When the personality is of a relatively high order and well integrated, the problem is very real. So in moments of service you are apt to fall into personality glamour unawares, and those serving with you usually refrain from pointing out your error. Walk in the light, my brother. Let the light and radiance of the soul illumine your service and do not allow your intellect to dominate. Let a free and spontaneous outpouring of love and not a forced or cultivated kindness, condition your relations with your fellow men. Do not be glamoured by your own grasp of spiritual realities and by your spiritual knowledge. You must consciously prepare for the fifth step by developing clear-sighted vision. As you are mentally polarized, subtle forms of mental illusion more than astral glamour are your major difficulties. Aspirants are subject to intense moments of blazing revelation. During these moments you will grasp the objective of your next immediate step. Spiritual unfoldments of consciousness will occur through a series of points of crisis in your life which lay the groundwork for the blending or fusion of the lesser and the greater lights of personality and soul. Be prepared to confront a crisis of choice which will force you to detach yourself from the grip of your own desires. As an aspirant, your conviction depends upon factual assumption and divine assertion not based on faith but upon knowledge. Ponder the distinction between faith and conviction and accordingly exercise the prerogative of divine assertion which is now your established right. Strive to "sit light in the saddle". Do not deal with your life problems with too heavy a hand; work diligently to eliminate the non-essentials but do not think about things too intently. It is so important for you to cultivate a sense of humor and be able to laugh at yourself.  Know when to relax and do not always work with such an intense attitude towards life or from such an extreme point of tension. Practice the art of relaxation and learn to amuse yourself. Be joyous in your work and in your service to the group and happiness will come to you along the Lighted Way. So you will be released into better health and into fuller service. Go forward with joyful expectation. **Step Five: Man the Disciple** September 1st to 10th The following will represent the qualities of the Sephirah Binah (Understanding; the Universal Mother, 'Mater', or matter), via Mercury. Both Saturn (Binah) and Mercury (Hod) are on the Pillar of Severity. **Saturn** Your soul has taken charge of your personality and gripped your mind; you have stepped upon the Path of Accepted Discipleship and are definitely in preparation for initiation. The call has now gone forth from the soul and from your Ashram to develop and evolve your own definitely planned service, and therefore to begin the task of finding those whom you can assist and serve. The stabilization of your life along the established line of your service is the next step. But beware of crystallization. In the central decan Saturn provides a dynamic creative impulse and a momentous energy which will enable you to impose the laws of the soul upon your personality. Saturn clearly indicates that you must subject yourself to rigid self-examination as a disciple. Here the particular hindrances to your true spiritual achievement are specifically illumined. You will be severely tested until you learn to abundantly express and demonstrate the unselfish qualities and attributes of the true server. You are offered opportunity through the presentation of obstacles, through pain and suffering to move forward. Suffering, disturbance and apprehension are the essential processes whereby detachment (disentanglement)and dispassion are (learned) enforced upon the consciousness. It is the enforced quiet and stillness of your lifestyle—symbolically in Virgo the contemplative quiet in the womb of the Virgin—which brings about the needed alignment with the soul. Therefore stand quiet at the center of your being. Consecrate yourself to the cultivation of depth, detachment and humility. Retreat inward and achieve a deepening of the inner life, which will in its turn lead towards wisdom and truth. Do not cease any of your outer occupations or exoteric activities, but carry them forward in a spiritual silence. Pursue your physical plane activities and your spiritual dharma but within yourself live an intense life of aspiration, of searching, questioning or questing. If you become spiritually dissatisfied, this will only produce in you an intensification of the major qualities that your soul would have you cultivate. At this time you will go through a process of detaching yourself esoterically (though not necessarily exoterically) from your chosen and designated task and from all past achievements, and you will thereby learn your next step upon the Path of Liberation. This detachment based on a phase of spiritual dissatisfaction will also engender a real humility within your heart—a quality you need to cultivate and express. Humility in thought is easy for you as it is largely theoretical and imposed; humility of the heart is practical and inherently spontaneous. Ponder on this distinction. You embark upon a life dedicated to discipline, dispassion, discrimination, decentralization, meditation and service. No longer attempt to create opportunities for service, but rather become responsive to meeting opportunities which come your way, applying yourself in service so that needs are met. In time, as you work revelation and insight will come. In this way you should be able to serve most effectively, resulting in the steady growth of any work you undertake for your Master and for the Ashram. Service is the outstanding opportunity offered by Saturn's rulership of the central decan. The eventual goal of all service is the spontaneous utterance of the dynamic power and inclusive love of the soul in response to all your contacts in the three worlds of expression. The nature, direction and form of your soul's service will take shape according to your past life expression. Nothing can limit the potency of your life of natural, loving service. The inner reality of your true spiritual identity must eventually be demonstrated. Your main objective is to become completely free of illusion and be able to respond creatively and with reason to the loving energy of divine relationship. Here you must do battle with illusion on the plane of mind and free yourself from the control of ancient and powerful thoughtforms. The taint of misplaced devotion and superimposed authority must be fully overcome in the central decan. Saturn's influence eventually destroys any remaining illusions and you learn to discriminate between the Real and the unreal, the essential and the non-essential, the subtle and the gross. Your entire lower nature must be liberated from the grip of personal ambition, from the power of material existence and from world illusion. Saturn is self-effacing, so the final traces of self-interest, self-assertiveness and selfish ambition finally disappear. The stimulation of Saturn serves to purify the inner thoughts and the desire life, reorienting them to the higher spiritual centers. Astral illusions, grandiose delusions and residual egoistic phenomena are systematically dissipated. Superfluous or non-essential activities cease. So Saturn is the wise guardian, protecting, guiding and nurturing the inner life. You are apt under Saturn to be hard and unyielding—hard on yourself and on others. You have learned much and surmounted much in the crucible of suffering, and nothing has prevented you from a steadfast pursuit of purity, Truth and Reality. This capacity leads you at times however, to judge with harshness those who do not apparently achieve similar results or possess your own staying power. Do not be identified with your own methods of approach or expect others to do things your way. The techniques you employ are not necessarily the best for all. Others must be allowed to serve as they see fit, for the effort to impose a means of service upon others only succeeds in blocking the expression of the soul's love. Recognize that there are many paths, many methods and widely different techniques. Learn to foster, strengthen and interpret the methods and techniques of others with whom you work and those you serve. Aim for decentralization without diffusion. If you can learn this lesson a wider field of opportunity will open before you. Decentralization involves the development of a mental objectivity and a disidentification from the personality self, and this should be your steady and practical objective. An advanced disciple is characterized by the dynamic qualities of spiritual harmlessness and pure joyfulness. True spiritual harmlessness is not a passive innocuous state but entails an active restraint from any speech or action which causes pain or misunderstanding. First as a disciple in training you have had to prepare yourself to receive a vital inflow of spiritual Life. Personal resistances obstructing the spontaneous outpouring of the soul's love have had to be dissolved. All types of self-destructive behavior had to be eradicated. As a disciple you have overcome all forms of harshness and cruelty. You do not countenance misunderstandings or the evasion of facts. With careful discrimination you overcome personality fears, resistances and all opposition to the birth and expression of the soul on the physical plane. Your lower self is subordinated to the higher rhythms and becomes increasingly obedient to the soul. Advanced disciples know that they do indeed have the power to change any existing distressing human condition through creative activity. They must initiate a responsible effort to stabilize the inner life and bring it into a harmonious outer expression. You work towards the successful integration of the personality to bring all the three lower Aspects together as one serving unit, demonstrating a real understanding and a true helpfulness. **As the effects of the soul forces pouring through increasingly manifest,** the expression becomes correspondingly regulated and no longer spasmodic. Consequently **the disciple is marked by a natural, spontaneous, living flow of the soul life through the physical mechanisms of expression**. You are being strictly guided, directed and controlled by the group purpose and by the hierarchical Plan for humanity. Above all else, the disciple must not harm the group, even when this means personal dissatisfaction or sacrifice. The ambitious personality urge toward betterment is reigned in once the personality becomes the vehicle for soul service. Through wise assimilation into the group, the establishment of responsible relationship and correct spiritual guidance, the disciple in training achieves the goal of initiation. Freedom from successive ring-pass-nots of limitation is experienced until the last illusion disappears and you, the fully transfigured disciple, stand initiate. So my brother, see your life pattern more clearly. See the underlying purpose of all happenings in the past and endeavor then to grasp a picture of the future, and make your dreams come true according to the vision in cooperation with your Ashram. Work at intelligent understanding of the Plan and materialize the vision. Let naught deflect you from your purpose—fatigue, frustration, people or circumstance. Carry all forward in silence and with love. Every contact carries an unrealized significance. Give love and willing understanding to all you come in contact with, and you will inspire others to work in cooperation with you. This is essential for the development of loving understanding that is the complement of wisdom. Saturn enables the disciple to maintain a dynamic adherence to the chosen path with steady perseverance. Your endurance must overcome any sudden event, occurrence or disruption until the moment you safely enter the portal of Initiation. It is this dynamic state of realization which commensurate with its power, produces change in the personality, circumstances and physical environment. You now enter a new subjective dimension or state of being. Learn to stand unmoved in spiritual being and attain the high altitude at will. No outer fluctuations of the form life must be permitted to upset your inner balance. When this condition of inner stability is sufficiently developed you enter into the world of Reality and into the clear light of day. Material circumstances, the physical environment and the form side of life then become fields of service and not fields of sensuous perception. Saturn wields the discipline of pain and of sorrow, but there is also a discipline of joy and of achievement. A true perception of this will greatly change human consciousness. **Discover the bliss that is here and now**. This is a right that you have earned as the reward of a life of patient endurance, triumph and acceptance. The expression of the discipline of joy and achievement will enable you to express a fuller tide of loving understanding, enhancing your usefulness to your Master and the Ashram. **Step Six: Man the Initiate** September 10th to 21st (The Preceding Decan was characterized by Saturn, expressed through Mercury, Esoteric. Saturn is the Planet represented with Binah, 'Understanding'. In this Decan, Chokmah 'Wisdom' (the Complement of Binah 'Understanding') is Being expressed through Venus, Love. **Venus** You are now numbered among the initiate upon a special path of training. Step by step the nature of the Path of Initiation has been revealed to you, and little by little you have assimilated the qualities of the unfoldments presented by spiritual opportunity. You have penetrated close to the heart of the Ashram and are known and recognized by your Master and by senior workers as an initiate. Now walk among the sons of men with the purpose of healing, serving and lifting, ever holding a balanced and inclusive view, knowing that all paths are good. The tests of the Saturn decan—stern, drastic, educational, disciplinary, stoic and Spartan, have been successfully completed. Austere, ascetic and astringent measures have accomplished their intended purpose as was necessary. You have consequently built up a persistence and endurance and a trained response to events that guarantees to the watching Master that your stability is assured. You are being trained for a new type of discipleship intrinsically different from that which you have experienced before. Further training is demanded to develop in you a more conscious comprehension of the nature of "wise love." This is love free from emotion or devotion; love that brings awareness of the objects of love as they essentially are, and that is able to perceive in character and temperament the working out of karma. Love more. Send wisdom out to others upon the wings of love. Emanating your own particular radiatory and magnetic field, you attract those who are filled with a love which greatly enriches the appreciation of life. You are the creator of your own destiny. You are magnetic, loving, inclusive, wise, tolerant, non-separative, unselfish (Chokmah), intuitive and understanding (Binah). As all aspects of the analytical, obsessive and over-discriminating mind have been sublimated, your function is to release a steady stream of illumined love which is free of any personal taint of criticism. In the sixth sign at the sixth step the innate divinity of the Virgin becomes gloriously realized (the 6 is a reference to the Sephirah Tiphareth, Planet of the Sun. So this reference to the innate Divinity of the Virgin (along with earlier references to the glorious Divinity of the Innate Child), are references to the Alchemical New-born, or the Christ-Child). You are devoted to one-pointed service through definite forms of selfless action for the greater Good. A tireless hierarchical worker, you move forward unfailingly until perfect cooperation with the life-plan of your soul is consummated in alignment with perfected reason, expressed with Love-Wisdom and harmonious beauty. The rulership of Venus in the final decan of Virgo indicates that the three principal activities of the mind (The Life, the Light and the Love; or the Being, the Law, and Word; representative of Trimurti, or the Trinity: vis-a-vis 'the 3 Principals of the Mind') have been successful in transmuting the physical body, transforming the emotional nature and transfiguring the personality (which is Alchemy and which it says that they do). One of your major assets is your capacity to evoke a fiery new incentive. The three Aspects of your personality are now integrated and function as agents of the soul, but they must become progressively responsive to triadic energy. From this side of the veil we can only dimly imagine to what extent your fertile and inspired mind is capable of being engaged with the creative faculty of conscious thought-form building; to what extent you recognize and are receptive to archetypal Ideas (attributes of Chokmah and Chesed). Your strong abstract mental faculties require the complete orientation of your mind toward the Real. The secret of triplicity is revealed to you. Hold it in focus so that your mind is kept perfectly clear. Thus the energy of your directed mind goes forward into the world of the higher spiritual Triad and the realm of pure intuition. Through meditation, subservience and obedience to the Greater Life (viz. 'The Absolute Being, or God), the illumined bridge or "Lighted Way" can now be successfully completed and traversed. One of your key tasks is to discipline your mind so that it can "hold itself steady in the light." This necessitates the cultivation of the faculty of right interpretation so that intuitive knowledge received may then form itself into the correct thought-forms. You will then be further tested on your ability to work with those imminent stages of the Great Plan which demand intelligent cooperation in the present. Focus your attention on what is needed now. Obedience (to incline one's Ear; Whosoever haveth an Ear, Let him Hear)) to this very duty and purpose is the hallmark of the trained server. Your major initiatory test therefore concerns your capacity to qualify, adapt and mold some aspect of the Great Plan in the service of humanity. Virgo initiates set a most excellent example of the sterling performance of duty, the dispelling of illusion (the Reflective Qualities of the Perfected Mirror (of Spirit) which reflect Spiritual Causes and not illusions) and of service offered with love and understanding. They are exemplary in establishing a life dedicatedly oriented towards spiritual realities. For the benefit and joy of all, the initiate under Venus bestows the radiant light of revelation upon the higher significance and spiritual purpose of our lives. New goals are glimpsed, higher standards are reached and new loyalties arise as you perceive more clearly some creative aspect of the great universal Plan in nature. As the hidden light is revealed, so the soul virtues of compassion and wisdom animate your personal character. You have developed those qualities and virtues which produce a clear vision of Reality and a capacity to enunciate Truth. The complete and final purification of your three-fold personality vehicle is attained on the higher burning ground, while simultaneously the real significance of divinity emerges into your initiate consciousness. Thus with an enhanced understanding all your cognitive functions become relatively perfected. Through the agency of Venus you learn to self-apply the final refinements to the demonstration of your perfected human form. Self-control and tolerance are now consummately expressed. You live according to high ethics and a moral code, and have an impeccable sense of decorum. Now sensitive to a new light entirely different to any previously experienced, a steady stream of understanding love and sympathetic cooperation pours through your purified physical mechanism dedicated to world service. You have carefully cultivated to an exemplary degree the ability to live an existence characterized by an undefiled state of inner peace, contentment and tranquility. In this relatively pure state you live a benign (Benevolent) and Wholesome Existence. You express a selfless, responsive love asking nothing of the self in return, and this has been the key which has opened up a full, rich and beautiful life. Symbolically, the stainless white robe of initiation and immortality has been bestowed upon you. We can only surmise that the triumphant initiate is now permitted to enter into the full consciousness of the Most High and thus become a source of eternal hope, spiritual promise, refuge and sanctuary. It is time to master the power to wield light as a carrier of Life in all three worlds of human endeavor. When in the halls of initiation you evidence fully the redemptive qualities of your soul, as perhaps a master mason, teacher, astrologer, esotericist or occultist, Venus will enable you to guide others into the promised land of freedom and true spiritual security. In ways beyond the imagination, the enhancement of the energy of Venus leads to the advent of new and impelling relationships. Empowered by a dynamic, permanent, new spiritual impulse toward universal life perception and synthetic livingness, you labor unremittingly for the benefit of humanity. The directing energy of the higher mind can now be thrown down into the physical brain, and so this applied Venusian stimulation produces the transmutation of pure intuition into spiritual illumination. Insights into the life of the soul and into your own life purpose are born in you. The hidden beauty of the Spirit of Life itself is released through your magical prowess and unfoldment of wondrous creative beauty. You have learned the meaning of pain, and divine indifference is your goal. You have made many contacts and helped many more than you know, and thus you have established links—for what purpose, my brother? Each life you have touched with aid and strength may form the nucleus of your own group in a later life experience. It is through spiritual magnetism and pure impersonal Love that an Ashram is assembled. This is a technique you are beginning to learn. You have made many friends and evoked much love from your co-workers, and these relationships are an enduring joy and responsibility. You are learning to intimately **know your Master** and you also merit the **staunch love** and confidence **of his senior disciples** with whom you share a deep appreciation based upon your work together (if I may: the whole purpose of this year's focus in getting to know the Beings of the Planes and Spheres) in past lives. You have also gained a much greater knowledge of the intent of your Ashram. You have worked off much karma and stand freer than was deemed possible when you entered into incarnation this life. From the angle of your soul your life has been triumphant. In neither dark nor light did the Central Spiritual Sun appear to you. The pairs of opposites do not distract your eyes. "Only the single eye directs the steps of the initiate upon the Way." **Gratitude is the hallmark of the enlightened soul (!)**, and from an occult and scientific perspective is the releasing agent. It is precisely the quality of gratitude that has freed you.
