Complete Aries **The Meaning of Tarot Cards** Often books on Tarot will go into detail, speculating on the meaning of the Tarot cards; citing historical references (older speculations) and attempting to explain the relevance of this to Interpretations via Cartomancy. Through the process of authors researching other authors' books, an assortment of explanations have been honed to mutual consensus. Now I will tell you the real reason for Tarot decks, what they are and how they are organized. In the past, Magic was banned by the church and its practice was punishable by death. The Tarot is a secret book of instructions showing exactly how to do it, designed to avoid detection and censorship. The following is its fundamental engineering: A Circle may be drawn and divided into 12 equal segments. A circle of 360 degrees will thus contain 30 degrees each. Therefore each sign is under the Rulership of the Triple aspect of Divinity expressed through the complete Sephiroth (3x10=30). Each segment will be represented by a sign. Each sign will be divided into 3 equal parts of 10 degrees each, called the Decans of that sign. There are 36 of these Decans. Each Decan has its own set of [[Angels|Angels]]: a Day Angel and a Night Angel; drawn from the Shemhamaphoresh, the 72 letter God-Name, in pairs (36x2=72). These 3-5 letter Names are the Names of the Genii of the [[Mercury]] Sphere. There are discrepancies in the assignments. Some start with 1 degree Aries and line them up from there; others (notably the Lineages affiliated with Eliaphas Levi and the Golden Dawn) begin from Cor Leonis (due to the progression of the equinoxes ) and line them up from there. For Our purposes neither method is as important as Esoterics: personal recognition and induction. Next, a planet is assigned to each Decan. The Golden Dawn uses the Chaldean method while others use the Jyotishi method (cadence/triplicities). Now the minor Arcana (the 'pip's) of the Tarot deck are lined up, one per Decan, according to sequence and the Presiding Element of the Sign expressed as a suite (Wands=[[Fire]], Cups=Water, etc.). The Face value of each card is prescribed according to the attributes thus accrued. The combination of the Sign and the Planet of its relevant Decan, the Angel of the Decan, and the number of the pip expressed in a given Sephirah is used to determine the meaning of the card that has been played. The 360 degrees, then includes the entire panorama of our ego-centric perspective; our Great Circle. Of course, the various actions within and proximate to that Circle (extension, attraction, mediation, integration) are performed by the [[Agents|Agents]] nearest to Us. This relationship is a chain of cause and effect but can be rather mechanical and automatic if not directed by an orderly purpose. It is to the Benefit of All that Order and Purpose are Universal. We will begin with the Orders that are closest to our physical world: **The 360 Heads of the Zone Girdling the Earth** (these are Intelligences) These heads, which I will now describe in detail, hold in constant harmony, the zone girdling the earth, all actions and conditions. In harmony because of the Sun; <font color="#ff0000">actions</font> relate to applied force (=physical 'work') <font color="#00b0f0">conditions</font> relate to the Astral (the circumstances necessary to bring such actions about; an extension of the Space-Time continuum) Each head is a high intelligence with all the faculties that any being of this sphere may possess. So, for instance, a magician can be informed by any of these heads about the past, the present and the [[Future|future]] of our physical world, and each head, by force of the Akasha-principle, can affect our earth. Via Akasha principle means God (or the [[Holy Spirit]] of God) acting through each head; 'by transferring a volt into the Akasha Principle'. Apart from this, each head has specific qualities, i. e. is endowed with certain special assignments. The specific qualities you are endowed with are given to fulfill certain missions from God. The magician need not get into touch with all of the heads of the zone girdling the earth and at the occasion of an evocation need only choose a certain intelligence which seems the right one to fulfill his plans. When evoking beings from the zone girdling the earth the magician may somewhat simplify his operations by using Qabalistic astrology for the first evocation. Starting from sunrise, every four minutes another head is the ruler. The first four minutes after sunrise are reserved for the head who has the greatest influence on our earth. For the following four minutes another being takes over the rule, then for the subsequent four minutes follows the third ruler, then the fourth etc. Hindu (Ibn Ezdra), Picatrix and Agrippa During the four minutes of his reign, a head can most easily be evoked, for at that time he is in close contact with our physical world. Because that is how Intelligence works. An experienced magician, of course, need not bother about the Qabalistic hour of evocation, for he is able to evoke any being from any zone at any time. The description of the different shapes in which these intelligences appear is also neglected here. In the cause of his practice every being cited will appear to the genuine magician in the shape appropriate to its personal [[Character|character]]. The order of the seals are dependent on the zodiac and their division into grades and the influences of the elements. Viz: the triplicity/cadence method (jyotishi) I shall only mention a few characteristics of the various intelligences, for, as mentioned before, each being and intelligence of any sphere is equipped with the usual magical faculties. Furthermore, the magician always has the possibility of asking an intelligence about how it may be able to help him. If an intelligence cannot fulfill the magician's wish because its range of influence is a different one, it will name that intelligence which is capable of fulfilling the magician's desires. Because that is how Intelligence works. **Old Mars** Now, the first Decan of [[Aries]] is under the Presidency of the Planet Mars. The Sign of Aries is ruled by Mars, as well; so we have Mars in Aries, Ruled by Mars. Perhaps now would be a good time to learn about Mars. Mars, of course, is the Roman name for their god of war; it corresponds to the Greek god of war, Ares. Let's look at the Mythological Ares. The actual Greek word is a noun referring to the throngs of war. Its etymology relates to meanings such as 'ruin' and 'curse' (bane). War is truly the curse of man. The Birthplace of Ares was placed far-off among the barbarians (thus labeling him as a stranger to the family-circle of Virtuous Mankind). Ares was the son of Zeus and Hera, at a time when their family life had undergone stress. As anybody can see, the progeny of unhappiness is detrimentally aspected. Ares had an infamous affair with Aphrodite, the union producing several children, among them Deimos (terror ), Phobos (fear ), and Adrestia (revenge ) who is also sometimes Nemesis (Divine Retribution for Arrogance) and also know as the 'inescapable'. Another of his off-spring was Anteros (requited [[Love]]; from anti-eros ( opposite of True Love), meaning it is not freely given but must be paid for). His attendants are Achlys (Death), Androktasiai (Slaughter), Eris (Strife), Enyo (Violence), Polemos (War);...etc. incl. Murder, Noise, Combat, Confusion, Spirit of Death, Spirit of Battle, Charge, and Retreat. Those familiar with NLP will have no trouble assessing what these Archetypal Characteristics will do to the Psyche and personality development on a human. One of Ares's sons (Cycnus 'Swan') tried to build a temple with the skulls and bones of travellers that he murdered. Cycnus was so murderous that the Mighty Herakles (aided by Apollo and Athena; Ares' half-sister) had to slaughter him. Ares flew into a rage against his half-brother Herakles and the mighty warrior Herakles wounded him. He had to return to Olympus and beg his father, Zeus to heal him. His father healed him, saying that as he, too was one of God's children he supposed that he would do so but added, "You are the most hateful to me of the gods who hold Olympus, forever strife is dear to you and wars and slaughter". Apparently the Word of God (the words of his father) meant nothing to him for, upon being healed he went straight back out to the battlefield. Whenever one reads in the olden books of the stories of these battles the heart grows impassioned and the heat in the [[Spleen|spleen]] rises up; one experiences thumos. **Deimos and Phobos in Sparta** The two brothers Deimos and Phobos were particularly worshiped in the city state of Sparta as they were the sons of Ares, the god of war. **Deimos and Phobos in Theosophy** In the Grand tradition of Theosophy; when there are enough 'non-evolvers' to become a hindrance to the bulk of the inhabitants of any Planetation, the impedimentaries must be cast out and thrown off. This happened with the Sun Sphere when the Planet Earth was cast out and later, to the Earth Sphere, when the Moon was cast out. Continuing along these lines; The same thing has happened to Old Mars (former god of war). We see that two of its vice-hindrances were cast off: Deimos and Phobos. In Greek mythology, Deimos (Ancient Greek: Δεῖμος, pronounced [dêːmos], meaning "dread") was the personification of terror. He was the son of Ares and Aphrodite. He is the twin brother of Phobos and the goddess Enyo who accompanied Ares into battle, as well as his father's attendants, Trembling, Fear, Dread and Panic. Deimos is more of a personification and an abstraction of the sheer terror that is brought by war and he never appeared as an actual [[Character|character]] in any story in Greek Mythology. The two Moons are not native to Mars **A Brief History of 4th Kingdom Humanity** The old paradigm is a 'tooth and claw' paradigm, where survival is won through constant struggle and insured by the survival of the tough. This is accompanied by a sensitive balance affected by the 'predator-prey' relationship. Whenever successful breeding species overpopulate an area they are forced to spread out in search of sufficient resources. Once they saturate the available resources, survival pressures are incurred upon the supporting environment at the expense of the biome. To off-set these pressures, predatory species appear which reduce the numbers of the successful group. In so-doing, an interesting dynamic is set up where only the weak and slow and aging members of the prey are picked off; the remainder being too swift or cunning to make their predation efficient. Consequently, upon thinning out the feeble, the predators move on to thicker numbers. In this way a hierarchy is set up so that there are fewer predators and far more prey. The beauty of this is that the predatory species only do well when the prey are really prosperous. If the prey suffer, then the predators suffer more. Once primitive man banded together and developed language, he became the most formidable hunter on the planet. The eventual result of this became the fact of his obvious intolerance for predatory competition. As the chief predator himself, he virtually extinguished all other predators within his domain. This meant that he had no natural population control mechanism and this imbalance swung wildly in his favor. As the dominant species of the planet his population eventually grew beyond control. This in turn lead to famine, suffering, and the use of force and cruelty against his own species. Thus man developed warfare and its technological destructionism; from the socio-biological perspective, including the built-in means of self-annihilation, should the need for planetary extermination arise from the perspective of Mother Earth. Recent history concludes that we have perfected all the means to complete our arsenal of technological self-annihilation; thereby completing the circle of Life of Death at our choosing (cf. 'thanatos'). The proclivity of humans to band together leads to a progression of allegiances (which reflect in his degree of advancement; either revealing his spirituality through sharing and service, or exposing his selfishness) through loyalties, first to self, then to family and kin; then to clan, tribe (party) and nation (patriotism); then to religion, and thence to race. This is an 'enemy-based' mentality which compels him to 'circle the wagons' against attack. With the dawn of cloning from Neanderthal cells, it will soon extend to species. The fear-based allegiances are related to instinctualities of the animal kingdom; such as survival, territory, mating and resources while the Spiritual advancements of sharing, moderation and selfless service stand in contradistinction. **4th Kingdom Religions** If we take an overview of historical religions, we can better understand our legacy 'god-concepts' in light of the evolution of animal-man according to his progress along the continuum of allegiances. In such cases we find the Punitive, War-making gods subsequent in peoples who cannot bring themselves to respect a 'Loving God' due to their animistic fears and enemy [[Consciousness|consciousness]]. The conceptualization of cruel and vindictive gods are a direct projection of animal-man's inability to cope with intimacy and fellowship, in light of his stage of allegiances. His god-concept relates to his degree of evolution with regard to his social, Emotional and Spiritual advancement, which should be a steady evolution towards sharing and selfless Universalism. Old paradigms of the 4th Kingdom religions favor the elimination of undesirables even to the extermination of all ungodly infidels with regard to paramilitary force. These are the religions of unevolved animal-men. Any nation that bows to the altar of war is unevolved, Spiritually. New paradigms of Spiritually Enlightened men of Reason bring us New Paradigms of Spiritual Ecology which include concepts such as the composting of contraries and negativities and the fertility of organically enriched soils of prosperity. **Old Mars (Planetary Astrological)** This preoccupation with enemies, has naturally lead to the inclusion of enemy-consciousness in religionism. The primary Unity of God having been replaced by a seething antithetical arch-nemesis. Along these lines of thought, every virtue has its corresponding vice and every Sephirah has it antithesis (called a klippah), and every Angelic Order has its gang of demons. [[The Sephirah]] corresponding to Mars, has its assignments under these conditions as well. Firstly, the Angelic is said to be 'Kamael' ('Severity of God'); while the demonic counterpart is said to be 'Samael' (the blind). Samael the blind is the consort of Lilith (sister and first wife of Adam; the baby-snatching vampire). Lilith, Samael and their coitus would seem to be one of the most over-developed themes in all of western culture. (The qlippothic legion of Lilin is known as the empusae). We shall have some more to say about Samael the blind shortly. To counter the vices perpetrated by Lilith, the Holy One, blessed be He, sent these Three [[Angels|Angels]]: **Senoy**, **Sansenoy**, and **Semangelof**; and she cannot harm anyone who knows the names of these Three Angels. Geburah is on the LAW side of the Tree and with all this going on 'below the surface' it is little wonder that most modern Astrologers consider Mars to be a planetary malefic (along with Saturn). This is because the LAW delivers whatever is to be according to your Word and Belief, so if you believe in evil you conjure it up. That is why the Angelic Force has been known as Severity. So when Western Astrologers (Pappus, Rudyard, Levi) connected the attributes of the Zodiacal sign of [[Aries]], some were taken from the Planetary and Religious aspect of Mars and many were taken from the Mythological aspect. These erroneural beliefs are based upon the old 4th Kingdom enemy-consciousness of unevolved animal-man. **New Mars of the 5th Kingdom** We have just covered the explanation of the attributes of malefics by earlier Astrologers, due to the LAW side of the Tree, as well as regards the left side of the brain with its inductive reason. We know that this is the reason why our perspective can work so effectively to our benefit or to our detriment. This is why in a fearful, superstitious, threatened culture, as was the case for the 4th Kingdom warring humanity, the Sephirah of Mars was avoided as powerfully malefic. Having now understood that the power of the LAW at work in suspicious and impulsive animal-man compelled him into blind instinctualities of murder and ravages, we are in a position to understand one of the meanings of Samael the blind in regard to vices. The opposite of impulsiveness and blind instinctualities, then, are the Virtues of the Sephirah: Clear-eyed Assessment and Reason. These are the True attributes according to MQ; the True attributes of Planetary Mars according to MQ. After careful consideration of this we saw that we had to let some of the old positions go; ergo, no 'enemy-consciousness'. In view of the positions afforded by the New Aries, we see: **Peace** I. the humanity of the 5th Kingdom is supposed to progress beyond war a. to utilize our sciences and rationale to solve the issues which confront us b. to improve and make better the standards of every human anywhere in the World, Solar System or Universe c. in order to become Masters (of our own Faith) (and the Faith of the Solar Logos who sponsors us) d. to be Masters and Stewards of the Dominion which our Creator endowed us with as Guardians, Protectors and Good Shepherds; honoring the Life in All Creation. II. requires the focus and exactitudes of our rational sciences guided by our Humanity, Faith Ethics and **Compassion** a. having been guided and directed, developed and perfected to Master the entire Tree of Life (not just one or two leaves and a twig). **New Positions** I. the Concept of Data Consciousness a. reliable feedback 1. stats; thermostatics, etc b. hence the necessity of information: sensing, processing, knowledge systems; 1. an aid to Understanding (show r'ship via Tree and Animus of Universal Service) II. **Knowledge** a. [[Science]]. Philosophy of Science 1. measurement (mentioned here, though may be another lesson: shape, meas. #, wt.) 2. Theories of Data (see Universal Quantum Computing) Etc. **[[Aries]] and Spring Change** In any event it is We who change, we do so as we evolve and advance Spiritually. We are at the tipping point for Humanity. If we do not wish to embrace the New Paradigm, then it is over for us; it is back to the ash-heap of the burning grounds. If the crusty winter of our animalistic coldness were a crabby old man who didn't want to change, his Life-force would peter out. He would wither away and become a burned-out husk in the land of shells; because every Spring the focused power and energy of [[Fire]] (Heat and Light) fills the World which explodes into new growth and Change. The new Leaves come out and cover the Tree; All is Rejuvenated. Flowers begin to Bloom: Romance is everywhere. Everywhere that Aphrodite walks, her footsteps blossom with flowers. Each New Aries, the Kingdom is rejuvenated (by Hebe, goddess of youth; cup-bearer of the gods, who helps Hera into her chariot; sister of Ares); full of growth and Promise; fertile and fecund, exuberant with hopes and aspirations; the Flowers of the Tree of Life! **Fire** Each of the signs of the Zodiac are assigned to one of the Elements of the Natural World (Fire, Air, Water, and Earth). These Elements, along with the Quintessential '5th Element', Spirit, act together in harmony all over the whole Universe. Since there are 4 Elements and 12 signs, 3 of the signs will share the same Element. To Aries is assigned the Element of Fire. We have previously covered the Fire Element, quite extensively in the [[Main Folder/Lattix imports/MQ|MQ]] series on the Azoth; along with many of the hidden meanings and Esoterica of Heat, Light and Fire. We will refrain from doing so here, except to say that in Legacy Qabalah, each Element has a 'Mother Letter' and the Mother Letter of Fire is [Sch] (Shin). The Hebrew letter Shin, looks like a three-stemmed menorah, lit with tiny flames atop each stem which are called Yods. The letter Shin is very important in Qabalah; its color-attribute is fiery Red. This is the same color-attribute assigned to the Planet Mars, [[The Sephirah|the Sephirah]] Gevurah and the Zodiacal sign of Aries. Red, Red, Red! Everything is energetic and Red! This Fiery Red Energy Is Electric and Active. All this energy is well aspected in Aries so the Earth can wake up after a long winter of sleep. The same thing takes place in the human microcosm every night when we sleep and every morning when we rise up, we are enacting the sacred cyclorama of the Great Circle of Life; so the Red Energy of Aries can definitely help you, too, when you need to get up and get going. Fire is expansive and the Red Energy of Aries will assist you in being more out-going with others. It will also make you sharp-minded and witty. Haha! What a fun and lively personality! More than anything you will like to get things started, C'mon! C'mon! Let's get the ball rolling! Somebody has to be first, and if it is to be then let it start with me. Not everybody has the courage to step right up and go first. Just like active little electrons, happily running around doing work. But oops! Don't get in their way~ electricity dislikes impediments. Impedance makes electrons wait and while they wait they heat up! That's their way of burning energy while having to do nothing. **The Will** The Fire of Shin, in Qabalah, is analogous to the Will. Of course the Qabalist is most interested in Divine Will. But as above, so below. Earlier we mentioned the Magic Book of Tarot and we said that: Now the minor Arcana (the 'pip's) of the Tarot deck are lined up, one per Decan, according to sequence and the Presiding Element of the Sign expressed as a suite (Wands=Fire, Cups=Water, etc.). The Face value of each card is prescribed according to the attributes thus accrued. The combination of the Sign and the Planet of its relevant Decan, the Angel of the Decan, and the number of the pip expressed in a given Sephirah is used to determine the meaning of the card that has been played. **The 2 of Wands** For the first Decan of Aries we have the **2 of wands** (Tarot [[symbols]] representing the Tetragrammaton of the Divine Name): There are many types of Wands, each corresponding to the category of things over which it will preside. We will cover another type in time. In this particular case, as we are dealing with the singular eponymous pip of the Tarot deck, the meaning is quite precise: we are dealing with the 'Fire Wand'. **Traditional Fire Wand** First I'd like to say a little about the Traditional Fire Wand as per the instructions for manufacture in the Golden Dawn methodology, though there are variations in other schools. Even if only one (instrument) is to be used, the other instruments should be also present. Each Implement must be consecrated and when this has been done, no one else must touch it. **The Wand for Fire** The staff of the Wand should be of Wood (remember that a Carpenter fashions things from Wood), rounded and smooth and perforated from end to end (well-rounded, as it were, and polished (smooth) and with a tube through the middle and an orifice on either end. Within it should be placed a magnetized steel rod, just so long as to project 1/16 inch beyond each end of the wood. The stem should be of three natural lengths, according to the knots. (That is [[The Body|the body]] should consist of a Mental Body, and Astral Body and a Physical Body, conjoined at each by a plexus of Spiritual Ganglia; or an Astral and a Mental Matrix.) Ten inches is the recommended length (one for each Sephirah). (See figure drawing proportion atelier: I believe that the human figure is divided into 8 segments for [[Art|art]]; this corresponds to the description of Pyranthropos as 'slightly elongated' as compared to humans -Pyranthropos being another way to signify humans in the Fire condition.) The magnet should be a strong one (The Goddess, or Kundalini Force, which embraces the God in Shakti ). (It is necessary to induce the proper polarity by stroking the steel rod repeatedly to train the current in the proper direction. Then the Magnetic Current will flow 'from South, upward, to North'; feeding the Spiritual Fire of the Higher Regions like a candle flame drawing the melted paraffin upwards through the wick in order to perpetuate the Flame of Life and Light the Temple and its environs. A finial should be placed at the head of the Wand, representing the Flame.) One end of the wood should be cone-shaped (like the pineal). The whole is colored Scarlet ([Sch]), and is divided into three parts (Mind, Soul and Body) by yellow bands (of cognition [Z] ). The cone-shaped end has also painted upon its Red surface three wavy flame-shaped Yods as ornaments (see the Hebrew Letter 'Shin'. They are Painted Bright Yellow (because we are cognitive of our Will). ('Yod' pertains to [Sch] and not so much to [Y], though there is some relation.) The Divine and Angelic Names of the Element of Fire should be written in bright Green paint (as it is the complement of Scarlet, thereby inducing the 'Vibratory Colors', or Chromatic Dynamization -see [B]) along the shaft and on the cone. Their Sigils (see 'Sigils' as related to [[Metaphysics]]) should be added and the motto of the Adeptus. The Wand must then be consecrated. It is for all workings of the nature of Fire and under the presidency of Yod and of the "Wand of the Tarot." **Beings of the Fire Element** When speaking about the so-called intermediate substances (substantias intermedias), the Greeks separated into Agathodaemones and Caco daemones. These names were known many hundreds of years ago as "the races or peoples" (geniorum) to such men as Plato, Pythagoras, Celsus...Trismegistus, Plotinus, Fluddus ...etc, to whom these creatures taught the most sacred mysteries of nature. These creatures are from the elemental world… of Fire; one can learn many important things about the heavens, the working of the stars, the real essence of elemental fire, the true nature of the inhabitants of the Planets and many other magnificent things. Wise men say that their form and shape is that of men...for they are not as ethereal as the [[Angels|angels]], but also not as crudely material in composition as the human body. Their favorite activities include honoring the Creator, teaching men, socializing with men and pursuing purity and godliness. Those who reside in the Fiery Element are composed of the smallest particles of the Fiery Circle and are organized by the power of Fire in General. And since their essence is nothing like that of humans, they are little concerned with human activity, so that it would be difficult for the Magus to summon them and to interact with them. It is well known that the Schedim (Sadaim in numero duali, as if they were two separate types of beings), as well as the Seirim are the fauns, satyrs and other such pagan gods, whose worship was forbidden by God, although not general contact with them. Apart from the fact that the word Sair is almost identical with the word satyr, the meaning of the two words is entirely the same, in that Sair means a ram and a satyr is usually represented in the likeness of a ram. The foolish pagans assigned to each of these peoples a species of animal as a symbol and image of God. Saint Anthony went into the desert and encountered a strange-looking man who gave him palm fruit to eat. Asked who he was, he answered, "I am a mortal, one of the inhabitants of the desert whom the pagans call fauns and satyrs and whom they worship as gods. I have been sent by my people to ask you to pray for them to the Lord God who came for the salvation of the world…" We must continue our investigation with the questions (1) whether it is possible today to still have contact with these people and if so, (2) how could we establish contact with them in order to learn the secrets of nature. With regard to the first question, we can say that these creatures are indeed still present today and could conceivably be located in the earth near metal deposits, in water and in the air and fire as before, since the philosophical rule that species do not disappear remains essentially true. We are certain that such ethereal people do exist and would gladly have contact with us earthly men. Nevertheless, among the many millions of people on the earth, there are hardly any who converse with them. Count de Gabalis insists that anyone wishing to converse with the Spirit-people should not be a noble; be humble, and shun all arrogance and pride; have a special chastity of heart and considers it a vice to be emotionally attached to women and ; have a jovial heart tinged with some melancholy. (Should be avoided by anyone whose horoscope is marked by a descending Jupiter and an ascending Saturn). Re the first point we find few if any kings or princes in history who have accomplished anything great in the transformation of metals or conversing with Spirit-people. The reason is clear. However we do have the example of King Solomon. Therefore we cannot exclude princes and the powerful from contact with the Spirit-People. In the three remaining points we are somewhat in agreement. Without a certain bit of melancholy, however, we will have little in the way of good fortune in whatever we undertake. Although for all these activities a virtuousness, seriousness and great profundity are necessary, it is a sanguine and jovial temperament that brings about a consistent effectiveness and desire to act -even if only a superficial desire- which cannot withstand the bitterness that causes deep reflection, and which is not sufficient at all. Cicero says most clearly that melancholy people have something godly in them. Count de Gabalis [[Notes|notes]] that it is a safe and certain means that we must utilize if we want to come to the people in the element of Fire (which he absurdly calls salamanders, but which we call Pyranthropos). He says that we must purify the element of Fire within us and raise it up. One need only concentrate the fire of the sun in a glass globe with a concave mirror; a solar powder will collect in the globe that, when purified of foreign particles -without any extraneous cleansing agent- and prepared in the appropriate manner, will soon be able to enhance the fire in us so that we can partake of the nature of this (triangle). When this occurs, the inhabitants of the fiery element will be subject to us and happy to see that we ourselves are in harmony with their fiery nature by virtue of aforementioned powder. As a result they will extend to us the [[Love|love]], friendship and respect that they normally reserve for their own people, but also because we are made in the image of their Creator. At this point we feel obliged to point out that Count de Gabalis is a rather poor philosopher, in that he was right with reference to the red solar powder concentrated in the glass globe, but left out an important detail concerning the necessary magnetic agent in the process. That having been said we will leave it at that and not fill in the missing information. **Characteristics for Magical Success** Let us here add that anyone looking for success in these processes must be (1) vigilant, both day and night, and have an uncommon fear of God; (2) versed in the Cabbala (though not in Judaica in general) and have a fearless heart and (3) he must first find a location for his work that is far from civilization, and then pray before summoning these creatures. This is how the ancient Magi proceeded. If you follow these directions, you will easily achieve your goal and become a master of nature. As for us, the unrest of our own life and the grief that the world has caused us has distracted us up to now from pursuing these secrets. Our purpose is to proclaim the wonders of God, to study the growth and decline of metals, to find cures for the many diseases that afflict mankind, and to make use of the many things as God made them for and for their appointed purpose. Thus we can learn many useful things from one another. **The Microcosms of Macrocosm** As thou well knowest there be many and numberless other inhabitants of the Macrocosmos besides Man, [[Angels|Angels]] and Devils. The animals are microcosms in a sense, yet not so complete as man. In them are many and great mysteries. They also have their magical mirror or sphere of sensation. But its polarization is usually horizontal rather than perpendicular and this is owing to the Sephiroth not showing within. This sphere then is not bounded by Sephirothic columns but are especially governed by the Stellar System w/o the Sephiroth. They are therefore ruled by the paths and are consequently classed each under an Element or a Planet, and a Sign. Thus each follows a formula which may be translated into letters, and these again form a vibratory name. "And Adam gave names to all the cattle and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field" (Gen 2:20). Yet they are ruled by the name YHVY, though classed by one or more of its letters: Fish….Water; Birds...Air; Quadrupeds...Fire; Creeping things/ insects….Earth. There are some which partake of two elements, but in them one is usually chief, and besides the Elements, each under a Planet and a Sign. **Planets and Signs** The Vegetable Kingdom is under a Planet and a Sign, a planet first differentiated by a sign. The Mineral Kingdom is under the Signs only. Vegetables have a sphere of sensation, but corresponding only to the Planets and Zodiacal Signs. The Minerals have also a sphere which corresponds to the Signs only. But the Metals are under the Planets only and that's the difference between them and the Minerals, wherefore they are stronger also. Shining Stones are especially under the Light; and they are centers for the action in the darkness of matter, as it is said: " My light is concealed in all that shineth" (believed to be from the Zend Avesta). They are therefore under the rule of the three active elements with an earth base. Shining through all things as a whole are the rays of the Macrocosmos. Besides these classes of life there be multitudinous existences representing Forces of the Macrocosm, each with its own microcosm. Such are Elemental Spirits, Planetary Spirits, Olympic Spirits, Fays, Arch-Fays, Genii, and many other potencies which cannot be classified under these forms. Thus the macrocosmic Universe is one vast and infinite sphere containing so many and diverse infinite microcosmic forms of which the perfect knowledge is known unto the advanced Adept. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Also suffice to say that you shall make a distinction between the Four-handed race, which are midway between the Man and the Beast and other animals. These are neither one nor the other, but the fallen and debased result of a most ancient magical effect to formulate a material and immediate link between the human and animal microcosms. They are not an ascent from beast unto the man but a mistaken magic fall from man unto a beast. Anciently they were a terrible power upon this planet, as then having more the man than the animal, whereas now they are more the animal than the man. The ancient traditions of their primal conditions are preserved unto this day in the legends of ogres and in certain records, cannibalism and its rites. Regarding the beasts, they are easily obsessed and have not the spiritual responsibility of the man. There nature is not evil but follows a natural law. … … Also bear well in mind that the race of the transformers are given to cruelty. Such are above all the race of creeping things. The Ruach of the man goeth upwards and the Ruach of the beast goeth downwards in the Earth (or horizontally crosswise). The Neschamah of the beast is not. The beast consisteth of a Ruach and a Nephesch with a rudimentary Daath or Spiritual consc. This Daath ever seeketh that which is beyond it and thence are beasts not responsible, but are submitted into obsession and herein is a great mystery. Man is placed at the head of the beasts. Woe unto him if he teacheth their elementary Daath cruelty and injustice instead of mercy and justice. For Man is a God unto the Beast and the aspiration of the Beast is toward the man, and great is the office of the beast for he prepareth the foundation for the man. Man is responsible for creation and since he was originally placed in creation to be its Lord, as he is, so will the creation follow him. And thus it is possible for the Genius of a Nation to change the climate of a country and the nature of the beasts therein. Men fell from primal estate and then they who were formless became imaged in form, deformed. And this is a mystery of the Demonic Plane which entereth not into this section. **Elemental Spirits** The Elemental Spirits and other of their kind are an organization not quite so complete as man. In spiritual [[Consciousness|consciousness]] more keen and yet, in some ways his spiritual superior though organically his inferior. They are the formers of the primal Man, that is the Elementary Man, and they have other and greater offices; for in them are many worlds and ranks and spheres. They are as the younger man (i.e. the child) and towards them also is Man responsible, and he has wrought them much injustice. **Traveling in the Spirit Vision** The symbol, place direction or Plane being known whereon it is desired to act, a thought-ray is sent unto the corresponding part of the Sphere of Sensation of the Nephesch. The thought -ray is sent like an arrow from the bow, right through the circumference of the sphere of sensation direct unto the place desired. Arrived there, a sphere of astral Light is formed by the [[Main Folder/Scrivener/Magical Pragmatix/Pragmatic Essays/Agency|agency]] of the Lower Will, illuminated by the Higher Will and acting through the Spiritual Consciousness by reflection along the thought-ray. This sphere of Astral Light is partly drawn from the surrounding atmosphere. This sphere being formed, a simulacrum of the person is reflected into it along the thought-ray, and this united consciousness is then projected therein. This sphere is then a duplicate, by reflection, of the sphere of sensation. As it is said: "Believe thyself to be in a place and thou [[Art|art]] there." in this astral projection, however a certain part of the consciousness must remain in [[The Body|the body]] to protect the Thought-Ray beyond the Sphere of Sensation (as well as the Sphere itself at that point of departure of the thought-ray) from attack by any hostile force, so that the consciousness in this projection is not quite so strong as the consciousness when concentrated in the natural body in ordinary life. The return taketh place with a reversal of the process and save to persons whose Nephesch and physical body are exceptionally strong and healthy, the whole operation is fatiguing. Also there is another mode of astral projection. This consisteth in the forming first a sphere from his own Sphere of Sensation, casting his reflection therein, and then projecting the whole sphere to the desired place, as in the previous method. But this is not easy to be done by any but the practiced operator. **The Microcosm** Thou shalt know that the whole Sphere of Sensation which surroundeth the whole physical body of a man is called "the Magical Mirror of the Universe". From therein are represented all the occult forces of the Universe, projected as on a sphere, convex to the outer, but concave to man. This sphere surroundeth the physical body of a man as the Celestial Heavens do the Body of a Star or a Planet, having their forces mirrored in its atmosphere. Therefore its allotment or organization is the copy of that Greater World or Macrocosm. In this "Magical Mirror of the Universe", therefore, are the Ten Sephiroth projected in the form of the Tree of Life as in a solid sphere. A man's physical body is within the Ten Sephiroth projected in a sphere. The divisions and parts of the body are formed from the Sephiroth of the Tree of Life thus. From Chokmah and [[Binah|Binah]] are formed the sides of the brain and head. Therein exist the intellectual faculties of Wisdom and Understanding, shining into and illuminating their inferior, the Ruach. They are the mansions of the practical administration of the intellect, whose physical shewing forth is by reflection in Ruach. In the Magical Mirror of the Universe, or the Sphere of Sensation, Man is placed between four pillars of the Tree of Life as projected in a sphere. These keep their place and Move Not. But the Man himself places in his sphere of sensation that point in the zodiac which ascended at the moment of his birth and conception. That is to say that at those times the same degree of the zodiac is ascending in the East of the Heavens of the Star whereon he was Incarnated. Thus does he remain during the incarnation facing that particular point in his sphere of sensation. That is to say, this sphere doth Not Revolve about the physical body. ….The Blood is Spirit mingled with and governing the watery principle… …. ….. From Yesod are formed the generative and excretory organs, and therein is the seat of the lower desires, as bearing more on the double nature of, on the one hand, the rejection of the Qlippoth, and on the other hand the simulacrum of the vital forces of the Tiphareth. It is the special seat of the automatic consciousness. That is, not the Will, but the simulacrum of the Will in Tiphareth. Yesod is the lowest of the Sephiroth of the Ruach, and representeth "Fundamental Action". It therefore governeth generation. In Yesod is therefore the automatic consciousness or simulacrum of the Will. This automatic consciousness is to the Nephesch what the Daath action is to the Ruach. Thus, therefore, being a simulacrum or reflection of the heart and vital organs in the parts governed by Yesod, if the consciousness of the Tiphareth be given unto this wholly, it shall pave the way for disease and death. For this will be a withdrawing of the vital forces of the Name, which are in the citadel of the Tiphareth, to locate them in Yesod, which is the more easily attacked position (see also 666 (other sources read 999) written on the forehead). (see also the figure of the sigil with the Orange transmuters {Oe} hanging below the organs referred to). For the automatic consciousness is the translator of the Ruach unto the Nephesch. From Malkuth is formed the whole physical body under the command and presidency of the Nephesch. The Nephesch is the subtle body of refined astral Light upon which, as on an invisible pattern, the physical body is extended. The Physical body is permeated throughout by the rays of the Ruach, of which it is the material completions. The Nephesch shineth through the material body and formeth the Magical Mirror or the Sphere of Sensation. This Magical Mirror of sphere of sensation is an imitation or copy of the Sphere of the Universe. The space between the physical body and the boundary of the sphere of Sensation is occupied by the ether of the Astral world; that is to say, the container or recipient of the Astral Rays of the Macrocosm. The Nephesch is divided into its seven Palaces, combining the Sephirothic influences in their most material forms. That is, the world of passions dominated by the Ruach, or by the world which is beyond. That is its Sephiroth are passionate, expressing a passionate dominion. Thus its three Supernal are united in a sense of feeling and comprehending impressions. Its Chesed is expressed by laxity of action; its Geburah by violence of action; its Tiphareth by is expressed by a more or less sensual contemplation of beauty and [[Love|love]] and vital sensation. Its Hod and Netzach, by physical well-being and health; Its Yesod by physical desires and gratifications; its Malkuth by absolute increase and domination of matter in the material body. Shining through infinite worlds and darting its rays through the confines of space in this sphere of sensation is a faculty placed even as a light is placed within a lantern. This is a certain sense placed in an aperture of the upper part of the Ruach wherein act the rays from Chokmah and [[Binah|Binah]] which govern the reason -Daath. This faculty can be thrown downwards into the Ruach and thence can radiate into the Nephesch. It consists of seven manifestations answering to the hexagram and is the Soul of Microprosopus or the [[Elohim]] of the human Tetragrammaton. Therefore in the head , which is its natural and chief seat are formed the seven apertures of the head. This is the Spiritual Consciousness as distinct from the Human Consciousness. It is manifested in 7 or in 8 if Daath be included. The Father is the Sun (Chokmah) the Mother is the Moon (Binah) the Wind beareth it in its bosom (Ruach) Its nurse is the Earth (nephesch)the Power is manifested when it can be vibrated through the earth. Right ear...Saturn; left ear...Jupiter; right eye...Sol; left eye...Luna; Mouth ...[[Mercury]] (messenger of the gods); right nostril...Mars;; left nostril...Venus From Chesed and Geburah are formed the arms. Therein exist the faculties of operative action, wherefore their extremities are the [[symbols]] of the Four Elements (symbolic attributes). The arms are the manifestation of the executive power of the Ruach (therein the faculties of touch are strongly expressed). From Tiphareth is formed the trunk of [[The Body|the body]], free from the members, and therein as in a receptacle of influences are situated the vital organs. The lungs are the receptacles of Air which tempereth the blood as the wind doth the waves of the sea (the blood is Spirit mingled with and governing the watery principle) -the mephitic impurities of the blood in its traversal of the body requiring the dispersing force of the Air, even as the sea, under a calm, doth putrify and become mephitic. The heart is the great center of the action of [[Fire]], lending its terrible energy as an impulse unto the others. Thence cometh the fiery nature and the red color of the blood. The part above the heart is the chief abode of the Ruach, as there receiving and concentrating the other expressions of its Sephiroth. This part is the central citadel of the body and is the particular abode of the lower and more physical will. The Higher Will is in the Kether of the body. For the higher will to manifest, it must be reflected into the lower will by Neschamah. This lower will is immediately potent (cf Potentates -mc!) in the lower members and thus, in the region of the heart, is the lower will seated like a King of the body upon its throne. The concentration of the other faculties of the Ruach in and under the presidency of the Will, at the same time reflecting the administrative governance of Chokmah and Binah, is what is called the human consciousness. That is, a reflection of the Four Elements, or the reflection of Aima and Abba as the parents of the human Jehovah. But the human Neschamah exists only when the higher Will is reflected by the [[Main Folder/Scrivener/Magical Pragmatix/Pragmatic Essays/Agency|agency]] of aspiration from Kether into the lower body, and when the flaming letter Schin is placed like a crown on the head of Microprosopus. Thus only doth the human will become the receptacle of the higher Will and the action of Neschamah is the link therewith. The lower will is the human Jehovah -an angry and jealous God, the Shaker of the Elements, the manifestor in the life of the body. But illuminated by the higher Will, he becometh Yeheshuah, no longer angry and jealous, but [[the Self|the self]]-sacrificer and the Atoning and Reconciling One. … ...The reasoning mind is that which useth and combineth the Principia of Chokmah and Binah so that the parts of Chokmah and Binah which touch the Ruach are the initiators of reasoning power. The reason itself is a process and but a simulacrum of the action of the higher Wisdom and Understanding. For the Air is not the Light -only the translator of the Light. Yet w/o Air the operations of the Light would not so well be carried out. The word Ruach, Spirit, also meaneth Air. This Air, the Ruach, permeateth the whole physical body but its concentrated influence is about the heart. Were it not for the boundary force of Chokmah and Binah above, and of the sphere of sensation surrounding it. And of Malkuth below, the Ruach could not concentrate under the presidency of the Name, and the life of the body would cease. Thus far concerning the Ruach as a whole, that is, the action of the Will in Tiphareth. From Netzach and Hod are formed the thighs and legs, and they terminate in the symbols of five, as do the arms; but they are not so moveable, owing to the effect of Malkuth. In them are placed the faculties of support and firmness and balance; and they show the more physical qualities of the Ruach. They are the affirmation of the Pillars of the Sephiroth, as answering to the Passive, the arms more answering to the two Pillars which are Active. They are the columns of the Human Temple. The clause of Adeptus Minor (commitment to raise and exalt one's Spiritual Nature, to supersede his human nature and unite himself with his Higher and Divine Genius) answereth unto Tiphareth, seeing that it is the Lower Will that must apply itself unto this work,, because it is the King of the Physical Man. All the Shining Ones (whom we call [[Angels|Angels]]) are microcosms of the Macrocosm of Yetzirah, even as man is the microcosm of the Macrocosm of Assiah. All Archangelic forms are microcosms of the Macrocosm of Briah, and the Gods of the Sephiroth are consequently the Microcosms of the Macrocosm of Atziluth. Therefore apply this perfecting of the Spiritual Nature as the preparation of the Pathway for the Shinig Light, the Light Divine. **Of Obsession, Trance, Death** Obsession always enters through a cutting off of the Higher from the Lower Will and it is ordinarily first induced by a Thought-Ray of the Spiritual [[Consciousness]] (whence one danger of evil thoughts) ill-governed, penetrating the Sphere of Sensation and admitting another potency, either human embodied, or human disembodied, elemental or demonic. The first action of such is to flatter the lower will until he shall have established a firmly and entrance into the Sphere of Sensation; thus causing a strain on the Nephesch which will render the Ruach less concentrated. As soon as the Ruach is sufficiently dispersed to repair the strain on the physical body, the lower will is weakened and is soon seized upon and bound by the invader. Whence arise the sensations of chill and drowsiness which are the usual forerunners of obsession. Now to yield the force necessary overpower the lower will from any chance of communicating with the higher the obsessing idea proceeds by seizing upon the Daath, and this consequently the great point of attack, especially the part in the physical body which is at the back of the head about the junction with the spine. Now unless the lower will shall voluntarily endeavor to restore the connection, it is impossible for the Higher Will to intervene, seeing that the lower will is King of the Physical Body. Remember that no obsessing force can overpower the lower will if that shall bravely and in spite of all opposition aspire unto the higher will. Trance may arise from the action of obsession or from the action of the Higher Will, therefore its aspects are varied. Death superveneth in the natural man, when the mental action of the Ruach and the Nephesch is definitely and thoroughly interrupted in the physical body. In the Adept, death can only supervene when the Higher Will consenteth thereto, and herein is implied the whole Mystery of the Elixir of Life. **Task undertaken by the Adeptus Minor** This then is the task to be taken by the Adeptus minor. To expel from the Sephiroth of the Nephesch the usurpation by the evil Sephiroth; to balance the action of the Sephiroth of the Ruach in those of the Nephesch. To prevent the Lower Will and Human Consc. From falling into and usurping the place of the Automatic Consc. To render the King of [[The Body|the Body]], The Lower Will, obedient to and anxious to execute the commands of the Higher Will, that he be neither a usurper of the faculties of the Higher, nor a sensual despot -but an Initiated Ruler, and an anointed King, the viceroy and representative of the Higher Will, because inspired thereby, in his Kingdom which is man. Then shall it happen that the Higher Will, i.e. the Lower Genius, shall descend into the Royal Habitation, so that the Higher Will and the lower Will shall be as one and the Higher Genius shall descend into the Kether of the Man, bringing with him the tremendous Illumination of his Angelic Nature. And the Man shall become what is said of Enoch. "And Chanokh made himself to walk with God, and he was not, for God took him." (Genesis5: 24.) Then also this shalt thou know. That the Nephesch of the man shall become as the Genius of the Evil Persona, so that the evil persona itself shall be as the power of the Divine in the Qlippoth, as it is said: "Whither shall I go from thy Spirit, or whither from thy Presence shall I flee? If I ascend up to heaven, Thou [[Art|art]] there. If I make my bed in hell, behold Thou art there." (Ps 84?) Therefore even the evil persona is not so evil when it fulfilleth its work. For it is the beginner of a dim reflection of the Light unto the Qlippoth, and this is what is hidden in saying that "Typhon is the brother of Osiris". Hear thou then a mystery of the knowledge of evil. The 5=6 Ritual of the Adeptus Minor saith that even the evil helpeth forward the Good" When the evil Sephiroth are expelled from the Nephesch into the evil persona, they are in a sense equilibrated therein. The evil persona can be rendered as a great and strong, yet trained animal whereupon the man rideth and then it becometh a strength unto his physical base of action. This Mystery shalt thou keep from the knowledge of the First Order, and still more from that of the Outer World. That is as a formula, seeing that this is a dangerous secret. Now then shalt thou begin to understand the saying "He descended into hell" and also to comprehend in part His strength, and thus begin to understand the (necessity of evil unto the material creation). Wherefore revile not overmuch the evil forces, for they have also a place and a duty and in this consisteth their right to be. But check their usurpation, and cast them down unto their plane. Unto this end, curse them by the mighty names if need be, but thou shalt not revile them for their condition, for thus also shalt thou be led into error (for there but for the Grace of God go me). The Spiritual Consc. can act around and beyond the sphere of Sensation. 'Thought' is a mighty force when projected with all the strength of the lower Will under the guidance of the reasoning faculty and illuminated by the Higher Will. Therefore it is that in thy occult workings thou art advised to invoke the Divine and Angelic Names, so that the Lower Will may willingly receive the influx of the Higher Will, which is also the Lower Genius behind which are the all-potent forces. This, then is the magical manner of operation when skrying in the spirit vision. Through his own arcane wisdom, he knows the disposition and correspondences of the Forces of the Macrocosmos…. …… …...There, as in a mirror, doth he perceive its properties as reflected from the Macrocosmos, shining forth into the infinite Abyss of the Heavens… … (an occulted description of projective transformational sacred geometry as taught by [[Main Folder/Lattix imports/MQ|MQ]], but in the words of G. Dawn)…. . **[[The Gist of Spherical Metaphysics]]** In classical Evocation, the Evocateur is responsible for reproducing the ‘atmosphere’ etc., so that the Being is able to manifest physically and work from the physical to produce effects. It is taught that the scope of these effects is (in certain cases) dependent upon the Magician’s own electromagnetic fluids, for the physical manifestations. In other cases the manifestation is dependent upon the activity (work) of the Elements (reading, here, ‘the Workers’ or Elementals). There is said to be a Third Way of Manifestation, which occurs without resistance (resistance, here, meaning ergs; work; ‘urgy’ in a sense). This means that supplies are not drained, but added to; under the Law of Spiritual Infinitude (unlimited expansiveness). This Keyword does, in fact involve the Law and Legality [O]. This Way (IMHO) is the instrumental co-participation of the Human with God. God is expressing His Creativity and Forces and Powers through the Human Elective as an Instrument of Divinity. (see web research on Avatara, Theophanes, etc.). This, then will generate the currents, previously spoken of as ‘electromagnetic fluid’ and ‘tetrapolar magnet’. So the ‘volt’ or ‘dynamide’ for the Christian occurs in Partnership with God. (Theological considerations aside, right now, this may represent a facet of the Christ (Body?).) There are several Grand Traditions of practical development for the Human, among them are: Spherical Being, Qabalah, and Alchemy. In this essay, I wish to elaborate upon Spiritual Being. Hahaha, woops I meant Spherical Being. Generally, evocation has involved the contact with various experts in the fields of their featured endeavor. In weighty matters, quality is often best left to the experts. Always leaving everything to the experts does little to advance those in need of education and experience; experience leads to expertise. The idea is for the advancing Human to expand his repertoire of abilities. In this respect, the own personality becomes expansively expressed through (or across) the various Intelligences, Personalities, Genii, Dominions, Principalities, etc. (we could call them ‘goodnesses’, or God’s Blessings.) The Own Self discovers, “what is the Essence of my own Being, as expressed in this or that feature”? (as is the case, say, for Astrological Interpretation) This is expressed as Spherical Being because it addresses the Expression of the Absolute Being, through Whom we are all related by virtue of being, co-participantly expressing through our personal being in certain spheres of operation. Socially, Humans develop their personalities through interactive learning in contact with other ‘mentor’ personalities. Therefore, the benefit of contact with Spherical Beings (and Realms). This functions to upgrade the equipment and expand the capabilities of the Individual to become a more expansive Instrument of God’s Expression. We decide and develop upon the best Ideals through contact with the Experts and Authorities in those particular fields, thereby improving our capabilities for God’s employment (or deployment). **The Conjuration of the Four Elements**, by Eliphas Levi. The four elementary forms separate and specify by a kind of rough outline, the created spirits whom the universal movement disengages from the central [[Fire|fire]]. Everywhere spirit works and fecundates matter by life; all matter is animated; thought and soul are everywhere. In seizing upon the thought that produces the diverse forms, we become the master of forms and make them serve for our use. The astral light is completely filled with souls that it disengages in the incessant generation of being; souls have imperfect wills which can be dominated and used by more powerful wills. They then form great invisible chains, and can occasion or determine grand elementary commotions. Phenomena ascertained in the processes of magic and all those recently verified by M. Eudes de Merville have no other causes. Elementary spirits are like young children. They torment those more who busy themselves with them, unless one has control of them by means of superior rationality and great severity. These are the spirits which we designate under the name of "occult elements." These spirits are those who often prepare disquieting or fantastic [[Dreams|dreams]]. They are those who produce the movements of the divining rod, and the raps on walls and furniture. But they can never manifest any other thought than our own, and if we are not thinking, they talk to us with all the incoherence of dreams. They reproduce good and evil indifferently, because they are without free will and consequently have no responsibility. They show themselves to ecstatics and somnambulists under incomplete and fugitive forms. This occasioned the nightmares of Saint Antony, and, very probably, the visions of Swedenborg. They are neither souls in hell nor spirits guilty of mortal sin; they are simply inquisitive and inoffensive. We can employ or abuse them like animals or children. Therefore the magus who employs their help assumes a terrible responsibility, for he will have to expiate all the evil which he makes them do, and the greatness of his torments will be proportionate to the extent of the power which he will have exercised through their [[Main Folder/Scrivener/Magical Pragmatix/Pragmatic Essays/Agency|agency]]. In order to control elementary spirits, and thus become the king of the occult elements, we must have previously undergone the four trials of the ancient initiations. As these no longer exist, it is necessary to supply their place by analogous actions, such as exposing oneself without fear in a conflagration, of crossing a gulf upon the trunk of a tree or upon a plank, or scaling a steep mountain during a storm, or getting away from a cascade, or from a dangerous whirlpool by swimming. The man who fears water will never reign over the undines; he who is afraid of fire cannot command the salamanders; as long as we are subject to dizziness we must leave the sylphs in peace, and not irritate the gnomes; for inferior spirits only obey a power that is proved to them by showing itself their master even in their own element. When we have acquired by boldness and practice this incontestable power, we may impose upon the elements the mandate (verbe) of our will, by special consecrations of air, fire, water, and earth. This is the indispensable beginning of all magic operations. We exercise the air by blowing from the direction of the four cardinal points while saying: Spiritus Dei ferebatur super aquas, et inspiravit in facian hominis spiraculum vitae. Sit Michael dux meus, et Sabtabiel servus meus, in luce etper lucem. Fiat verbum halitus meus; et imperabo spiritibus aeris hujus, et refraenabo equos solis voluntate cordis nei, et cogitatione mentis meae et nutu oculi dextri. Erorciso igitur te, creatura aeris, per Pentagrammaton et in nomine Tetragrammaton, in quibus sunt voluntas firma 1 et fides recta. Amen. Sela, fiat. Qu'il en soit ainsi. Next we recite the prayer of the Sylphs, after having traced in air their sign with the plume of an eagle. PRAYER OF THE SYLPHS Spirit of light! Spirit of wisdom! whose breath gives and takes away again the forms of all things! Thou, in whose presence the life of being is a shadow which changes, and a vapor which passes away. Thou who ascendest the clouds and movest on the wing of the winds. When thou breathes! forth, infinite spaces are peopled! When thou inhalest, all that comes from thee returns to thee! Endless movement in eternal stability, be thou eternally blest! We praise thee and bless thee in the changing empire of created light, of shadows, of reflections and of images; and we long unceasingly for thine immutable and imperishable light. Let the ray of thy intelligence and the heat of thy love penetrate even to us; then what is movable will become fixed; the shadow will become a body; the spirit of the air will become a soul; the dream will become a thought, and we shall no longer be borne away by the tempest, but shall hold the bridle of the winged steeds of the morning, and shall direct the course of the evening winds that we may fly into thy presence. O spirit of spirits! O eternal soul of souls! O 2 imperishable breath of life! O creative inspiration. O mouth which inspires and respires the existence of all beings in the flux and reflux of thy eternal Word, which is the divine ocean of movement and of truth. Amen! We exorcise water by the imposition of hands, by the breath, and by Speech, while mingling in it the consecrated salt, with a little of the ashes which remain in the perfuming pan. The sprinkler is made with branches of 3 vervain, of periwinkle, of sage, of mint, of valerian, of ash and of basil, tied by a thread from the distaff of a virgin, with a handle from a walnut-tree which has not yet borne fruit, and upon which you will engrave with a magic dagger the characters of the seven spirits. You will bless and consecrate separately the salt, and the ashes of the perfume, in saying:  UPON THE SALT In isto sale sit sapientia, et ab omni corruptione servet mentes nostras et corpora nostra, per Hochmael et in virfute Rauch-Hochmael, recedant ab isto fantasmata hylae ut sit sal coelestis, sal terrae et terra salis, ut nutrietur bos trituraus et addat vpei nostrae cornua tauri 4 volantis. Amen. UPON THE ASHES Revertatur cinis adfontem aquarum viventium, etfiat terra fructificans, etgerminet arborem vitaeper tria nomina, quae sunt Netsah, HodetJesod, in principle et in fine, per alpha et Omega qui sunt in spiritu Azoth. 5 Amen. IN MINGLING THE WATER, THE SALT, AND THE ASHES In sale sapientiae aeternae, et in aqua regenerationis, et in cinere germinante terram novam, omnia fiant per Eloim Gabriel, Raphael et Uriel, in saecula et aeonas. 6 Amen. EXORCISM OF THE WATER Fiat firmamentum im medio aquarum et separet aquas ab aquis, quae superius sitcut quaee superius, ad perpetranda miracula rei unius. Sol ejus pater est, luna mater et ventus hanc gestavit in utero suo, ascendit a terra ad coelum et rursus a coelo in terram descendit. Exorciso te, creatura aquae, ut sis mihi speculum Dei vivi in operibus ejus, et fons vitae, et ablutio 7 pecatorum. Amen. PRAYER OF THE UNDINES Terrible king of the sea! Thou who boldest the keys of the cataracts of heaven, and who enclosest the subterranean waters in the hollow places of the earth! King of the deluge and of rains, of springtime! Thou who openest the sources of streams and fountains! Thou who commandest the moisture (which is like the blood of the earth) to become the sap of plants! We adore and invoke thee! Speak to us, ye moving and changeable creatures! Speak to us in the great commotions of the sea, and we will tremble before thee. Speak to us also in the murmur of the limpid waters, and we will desire thy love. O immensity in which all the rivers of being lose themselves, which ever spring up anew in us! O ocean of infinite perfections! Height which beholdeth thee in the depth! Depth which breathes thee forth in the height! Bring us to the true life through intelligence and love! Lead us to immortality through sacrifice, in order that one day we may be found worthy to offer thee water, blood, and tears, for the remission of sins. Amen. We exorcise fire by casting in it salt, incense, white resin, camphor, and sulphur, and by pronouncing three times the three names of the genii of fire: Michael, king of the sun and of lightning; Samael, king of volcanoes; and Anael, prince of the astral light. Next by reciting the prayer of the Salamanders. Immortal, eternal, ineffable and uncreated Father of all things I who are borne upon the incessantly rolling chariot of Worlds which are always turning; Ruler of the ethereal immensity where the throne of thy power is elevated; from whose height thy dread-inspiring eyes discover all things, and thy exquisite andsacred ears hear all; Listen to thy children whom thou hast loved from the beginning of the ages; for thy golden, great, and eternal majesty is resplendent above the world and the starry heavens. Thou art raised above them O sparkling fire! There thou dost illumine and support thyself by thine own splendor; and there comes forth from thine essence overflowing streams of light which nourish thine infinite spirit. That infinite spirit nourishes all things, and renders this inexhaustible treasure of substance always ready for the generation which fashions it and which receives in itself the forms with which thou hast impregnated it from the beginning. From this spirit those most holy kings who surround thy throne, and who compose thy court, derive their origin. O Father Universal! Only One! O Father of blessed mortals and immortals! Thou hast specially created powers who are marvelously like thine eternal thought and adorable essence. Thou hast established them superior to the angels who announce to the world thy wishes. Finally thou hast created us in the third rank in our elementary empire. There our continual employment is to praise thee and adore thy wishes. There we incessantly burn with the desire of possessing thee, O Father! O Mother! the most tender of all mothers! O admirable archetype of maternity and pure love! O Son, the flower of sons! O Form of all forms; soul, spirit, harmony and number of all things. Amen. We exorcise the earth by the sprinkling of water, by the breath and by fire, with the perfumes proper for each day, and we say the prayer of the gnomes. Invisible King who has taken the earth as a support, and who has dug abysses in order to fill them with the omnipotence! Thou whose name makest the arches of the world tremble! Thou who makest the seven metals circulate in the veins of stone; Monarch of seven luminaries! Rewarder of subterranean workmen! bring us to the desirable air and to the kingdom of light. We watch and work without respite. We seek and hope by the twelve stones of the Holy City, for the talismans which are buried by the magnetic nail which passes through the center of the earth. Lord! Lord! Lord! Have pity upon those who suffer! Enlarge our hearts! Let us be free and raise up our heads! Exalt us! O stability and movement! O Day invested by night! O Darkness veiled in light! O Master who never retainest the wages of thy workmen! O silvery whiteness! O Golden Splendor! O Crown of Diamonds, living and melodious! Thou who bearest the sky upon thy finger, like a ring of sapphire! Thou who hidest under the earth, in the kingdom of gems, the wonderful seed of stars! All hail! Reign; and be the Eternal Dispenser of riches, of which thou hast made us the guardians. Amen. We most observe that the special kingdom of the Gnomes is at the North; that of the salamanders at the south; that of the sylphs at the east; and that of the Undines at the west. They influence the four temperaments of men (i. e., the Gnomes, the melancholic; the Salamanders, the sanguine; the Undines, the phlegmatic; and the Sylphs, the bilious). Their signs are as follows: the hieroglyphs of the bull for the Gnomes, and we command them with the sword; of the lion for the Salamanders, and we command them with the forked wand, or the magic trident; of the eagle for the Sylphs, and we command them with the holy pentacles; finally with Aquarius for the Undines, and we evoke them with the cup of libations. Their respective sovereigns are, Gob for the Gnomes, Djiu for the Salamanders, Paralda for the Sylphs, and Nicksa for the Undines. When an elementary spirit comes to torment, or at least to annoy the inhabitants of this world, we must conquer it by means of air, water, fire and earth, blowing, sprinkling, burning perfumes, and tracing on the earth the star of Solomon and the sacred pentagram. These figures should be perfectly regular, and made either with coals from the consecrated fire, or with a reed dipped in diverse colors which we mix of pulverized magnet. Then, while holding in the hand the pentacle of Solomon, and taking by turns the sword, the wand, and the cup, we pronounce in these terms and in a loud voice the conjuration of the four. Caput mortuum, impeert tibi Dominus per vivum et devotum serpentem. Cherub, imperet tibi Dominus per Adam Jotchavah! Aquila errans, imperet tibi Dominus per alas Tauri. Serpens, imperet tibi Dominus tetragrammaton per angelum et leonem! Michael, Gabriel, Raphael, Anael! Fluat U dor per spiritum Eloim. Maneat Terra per Adam lot-Chavah. Fiat Firmamentum per lahuvehu-Zebaoth. 8 Fiat Judicium per ignen in virtute Michaels. Angel with the dead eyes, obey or flow away with this holy water. Winged bull labor or return to earth; if thou art not willing that I prick thee with this sword. Chained eagle, obey this sign, or withdraw before this breath. Moving serpent, crawl at my feet, or be tormented by this sacred fire and be dissipated with the perfumes I burn therein. Let the water return to water! Let a fire burn! Let air circulate! Let earth fall upon the earth, by virtue of the pentagram which is the morning star, and in the name of the Tetragram, which is written in the center of the cross of light. Amen. The sign of the Cross adopted by the Christians does not belong to them exclusively. It is also kabalistic, and represents the contrasts, and the quaternary equilibrium of the elements. We see by the occult stanza of the Lord's Prayer, which we have indicated in 9 our Dogma, that there were primitively two modes of making it, or at least two very different formulas to distinguish it. One reserved for the priests and initiated; the other granted to neophytes and the profane. Thus, for example, said, "To Thee ;" then he added, "belong," and continued while carrying his hand to his breast, "the kingdom"; then to his left shoulder "Justice," to the right shoulder, "and mercy." Next he Joined the two hands adding "in the generating cycles." 10 Tibi sunt Malchut et Geburah et Chesed per oeonas. The sign of the Cross which is absolutely and magnificently kabalistic, which the profanations of Gnosticism have caused (he Church militant and official to completely lose. This sign, made in this way, should precede and terminate the conjuration of the Four. In order to control and subject elementary spirits we must never yield to the defects which characterize them. Thus a light and capricious mind can never govern the sylphs. An effeminate, cold, and changeable nature will never control the undines. Anger irritates the salamanders, and covetous rudeness renders those whom it enslaves the sport of the gnomes. But it is necessary to be as prompt and active as the sylphs; as flexible and attentive to images as the undines. As energetic and strong as the Salamanders; as laborious and patient as the gnomes; in a word, we must conquer them in their strength, without ever allowing ourselves to be enthralled by their weaknesses. When we shall be well fixed in this disposition, the entire world will be at the service of the wise operator. He will go out during the storm and the rain will not touch his head; the wind will not derange even a single fold of his garments; he will go through fire without being burned; he will walk on the water, and will behold the diamonds through the crust of the earth. These promises which may seem hyperbolical are only so in the minds of the vulgar; for though the sage does not do materially and precisely the things which these words express, he will do many greater and more wonderful. In the meantime it is not to be doubted that individuals can direct the elements by the will to a certain extent, and change or really stop their effects. Why, for example, if it is ascertained that certain individuals in a state of ecstasy lose their weight for the moment, could we not walk or glide upon the water? Saint Medard's convulsionaries felt neither fire nor sword, and begged as a relief the most violent blows and the most incredible tortures. Are not the strange ascensions and wonderful equilibrium of certain somnambulists a revelation of these hidden forces of nature. But we live in an age in which men have not the courage to confess the miracles they witness; and if anyone says, "I have seen or have done myself the things which I relate," he will be told, "either you are making sport of us or you are sick." It is better to keep silence and act. The metals that correspond to the four elementary forms are gold and silver for air; mercury for water; iron and copper for fire; and lead for earth. Talismans are prepared from them, having relation to the forces which they represent, and to the effects proposed to be obtained. Divination by the four elementary forms named Aeromancy, hydromancy, pyromancy, and geomancy, is made in diverse ways, which all depend upon the will and transparency or imagination of the operator. In truth the four elements are only instruments to aid second-sight. Second- sight is the faculty of seeing in the astral light. This second-sight is as natural as the first sight, or the sensible and ordinary sight, but it can only act through the abstraction of the senses. Somnambulists and ecstatics enjoy second-sight naturally; but this sight is more lucid as the abstraction becomes more complete. The abstraction is produced by astral intoxication; that is, by a superabundance of light, which completely saturates the nervous system, and consequently renders it inactive. Sanguine temperaments are more disposed to Aeromancy; bilious to pyromancy, phlegmatic to geomancy, and melancholic to hydromancy. Aeromancy is confirmed by oneiromancy or divination by dreams; pyromancy is supplemented by magnetism; hydromancy by divination with crystals; geomancy by fortune telling with cards. These are transpositions and perfectings of methods. But divination, in whatever manner we may operate, is dangerous, or at least 11 useless, for it disheartens the will; consequently it restricts freedom, and fatigues the nervous system. The Magic Wand By Franz Bardon (Extracted from “The Practice of Magical Evocation”) The most important aid in ritual magic is, and always will be, the magic wand. Since the days of yore magicians and sorcerers have been pictured with a magic wand. Charlatans and stage illusionists are still making use of it today, trying to throw dust into the eyes of their audience by all sorts of tricks. The person who thinks it suffices to hold a magic wand in his hand in order to fulfill wonders is led astray. I will give here an explanation of the symbolic meaning and the description of the syntheses of the magic wand, seen from the magical point of view theoretically as well as for practical application. Above all, the magic wand is the symbol of the will, the power and the strength by which the magician maintains his influence on the sphere for which he has made and charged it. A magician will not have just one wand for his practice, but he will make several wands depending on what he intends to do or attain. The actual purpose of a magic wand is to help the magician project his will into any sphere or plane. He may have a wand: 1. to influence any being, no matter if human or animal, 2. to cure people from diseases and to do away with bad, unfavorable influences, 3. to evoke high intelligences and to invoke demons and spirits. To say that the magic wand symbolizes the absolute power of the magician is truly justified. The person having fully comprehended the mystery of the magic wand in its magnitude will never do his operations of ritual magic without this implement. It would lead too far, if I tried to state here all the possibilities of the magic wand. For the intelligent student these hints will suffice and will serve as guiding principles. His knowledge will be enlarged by ample meditation. The magic wand is a condenser, no matter what material it is made of or in which way it is manufactured. Charged with the will of the magician, it expresses a certain power. It may be a simple one (the usual type of wand) or a complicated one. All the wands carved out of wood are regarded as simple wands. But only a special kind of wood, suiting the purpose, may be used. Thus, hazelnut or willow are to be used for a wishing- wand. The wishing-wand is a modification of the magic wand. Though a wand made of ash-wood may be used as a magic wand for all magical operations the magician, when carrying out operations of ritual magic, will only charge it for the purpose of curing people. The wand made of elder-wood, proves, on account of its analogy to Saturn, especially efficient when calling up or evoking elemental spirits and demons. In making magic wands willow twigs may also be used for any type, for the willow is a very good fluid condenser. The attentive reader will remember that willows are often struck by lightning because of their high content of water, and their capability of absorbing. He may also remember the old saying referring to thunderstorms: "From the willow flee, look for a beech-tree". The wood of an oak or an acacia, too, is an excellent material for making a magic wand. It is, indeed, very easy to make a magic wand of any of the kinds of wood mentioned. Cut a twig, approximately 3/8 to 3/4 ins. in diameter and about 12-20 ins. in length, remove its skin and smooth it. Often the cutting of a magic wand has been restricted to special astrological periods, and the magician acquainted with astrology is free to make use of his knowledge when making a wand. But such a procedure is by no means necessary, since the magician knows very well that the stars may have a certain influence, but that they cannot force the wise to do anything, as he actually rules them. Thus anybody may, if he likes, make by himself a magic wand out of one of the materials mentioned above. If the magic wand is to serve ritual purposes, you are recommended to use a new knife when cutting the twig. The knife may later be used for other ritual purposes or other magical operations. It should, in that case, never be employed for any common purpose. If the magician does not expect to use the knife again after having cut and smoothed the twig for the magic wand, he should bury it in order to prevent it from ever coming into the hands of anyone else. Another kind of magic wand is the steel magnet which has to be equipped with an insulated grip. Take a round steel rod (the best steel to use is electro-steel, (i. e. magnet steel) approximately 12- 20 ins. long with a diameter of 3/8 ins., polish it and have it nickel-plated to prevent it from rusting. After having nickelplated the rod, the magician may magnetize it by means of an electric coil, similar to the magnetization of a horse-shoe or the magnet of an electrical motor. The greater the power of attraction of the magnet, the better it works. This is the way to get a very strong steel magnet which will not only do its work as such, but which will also serve as an excellent magic wand for many magical and magnetic experiments. First of all one must locate the north and the south pole on the magic electro magnetic rod and mark both poles: the south-pole with a minus and the north-pole with a plus. For the insulation of the rod the middle must be then wound with a silk ribbon as wide as the palm, i. e. about 3-4 ins. A rubber hose of the same length or a wooden handle that has been pierced for this purpose may also be used. Such a wand will enable the magician to cause many magnetic and magical phenomena, of which only a few will be treated here. If the magician is working with the electromagnetic fluid of the universe, intending to intensify it strongly in the physical world, then he must take hold of the wand in such a manner that his right hand will touch the plus-pole and his left hand the Minus pole, with the ends of the rod touching the middle of his palms. After this the electrical fluid from the universe has to be led via the right side of the rod into the magician's body by means of the imagination. The plus-radiation of the rod (od-pole-radiation) will thus be strongly intensified as it has the same oscillation and will make it easier for the magician to store the electrical fluid in his body. The same procedure has to be applied to the magnetic fluid of the south-pole. Vice versa the magician now intensifies the electrical fluid again, which he has previously stored up in his body, this time concentrating it into the plus-end of the rod so strongly that he can make his influence work directly on the physical world. The same goes for the magnetic fluid which he will be able to store up in his left, that is the negative pole radiation. The middle of the rod, covered with the insulating material, will remain neutral. If the magician, by force of imagination, now concentrates his intention into the condensed electromagnetic fluid of the steel magnet the wand indeed becomes a magic wand. By means of the electromagnetic fluid, which radiates as a brilliant light from the rod, any realization on the physical world will be possible. Initiates usually apply this wand for influencing sick people and for all magnetic phenomena. This magic electromagnetic wand is, by the Law of the Universe, an excellent condenser with the same kind of oscillation as the universe, but in a most subtle way. The person meditating on this will be able to find other methods easily due to the universal laws. The magician will, for instance, be able to either pull the fluid out of the universe like an antenna and store it in his body, or to transfer it by force of imagination to other people, near him or far away. The wand will soon be an indispensible implement for the magician, for the positive and negative powers concentrated in it will help him to create the necessary oscillation in his electromagnetic fluid. Besides this, there are magic wands charged either with solid liquid, or combined condensers. Much could be said about how to make such rods and which methods are to be used, but I will only mention the most appropriate to serve the magician in his work. Take the twig of an elder- bush, 12-20 ins. long and 3/8 to 3/4 ins. in diameter, peel off its skin and smooth it with sand- paper. Then remove its pith so that you get an elder-pipe. Put a cork on the one end of the pipe and seal it with sealing-wax, insert a condenser (a liquid condenser, if you like) from the other side, then also seal this end of the pipe airproof. The rod is now ready for use. You may, if you wish, use a different kind of wood, for instance, the twig of an ash, willow or oak tree, or of a hazelnut bush. The twig, which has no pith must, however, be pierced through carefully with a fine drill, making a pipe of it. Instead of the liquid condenser a solid condenser may be used, the same kind of condenser described in "Initiation into Hermetics". It is also possible to use a piece of blotting paper soaked with a liquid condenser instead of a solid condenser, which, after it has dried well, is charged, and then, after having been rolled together, is inserted into the hollow space of the rod. The disadvantage of wood is that it will, as time goes by, moulder or be affected by the fluid condenser, which will cause it to become perforated. It might therefore as well be replaced by a metal-pipe. Those kinds of metals which are good conductors of heat and electricity are best. The best of all, of course, is a copper pipe with a diameter of 3/8 to 1/2 inch. In order to avoid any oxidization on the surface of the metal, the pipe can be nickel, chrome, or tin-plated before it is filled with the condenser. One opening must be soldered together at once, the other immediately after having filled up the pipe; thus you get a first class magic wand, applicable for all purposes. Magicians working with the magnetic and the electric fluid in turn will do well to procure for themselves a rod made out of a thin iron or steel pipe, as recommended above, for operations with the magnetic fluid, and a copper-pipe for operations with the electric fluid. A universal wand is manufactured in the same manner, with the exception that a nickel-plated brass pipe must be used, instead of a pipe of copper or iron. The magician wealthy enough for financial considerations not to matter can use, instead of the fluid condenser, a condenser made of semi-precious stones. He will use for his electric fluid, a copper-rod the inside of which is filled with pulverized amber, an unsurpassed condenser for this kind of fluid. For his operations with the magnetic fluid he will, in this case, have to fill up the steel-pipe with pulverized rock-crystal instead of using a solid condenser. Rock-crystal, again, is a very good fluid condenser for the magnetic fluid. But it is also possible to solder two separate small pipes, thus making a single rod out of them; one half of the tube is, in this case, filled up with pulverized amber, the other with pulverized rock-crystal. Having done this, a single rod, separated in the middle, will contain both kinds of fluid condensers. In a case like this, however, the two halves must be connected by a thin piece of copper - or iron - wire going through the centre of both pipes. The outside of such a rod may be nickel- 45 plated. This ideal wand then has a unique fluid capacity and will serve any magical operation. There is still another possibility: a wooden rod may by ornamented with seven rings made of the planetary metals. The rings should be fixed to the rod in Qabalistic order. That is, a golden ring (for the Sun) is placed in the middle of the rod and three metal rings on each side. The following metals may be used for the rings in question:  Lead corresponding to Saturn  Tin corresponding to Jupiter  Iron corresponding to Mars  Gold corresponding to the Sun  Copper corresponding to Venus  Brass corresponding to Mercury  Silver corresponding to the Moon Apart from this, the rings may have engravings portraying the intelligences of the above- mentioned planets. The use of a wand like this will, in general, be restricted to the conjuration of intelligences of the seven planets. When used for other purposes, it will not prove superior to the other types of wands. This is all the magician needs to know: from the examples above he will, by himself, be able to proceed to other variations. The shape and the size of the wand plays a minor part. The most important thing about a magic wand is its charging for practical use, a description of which is given below. The charge of a magic wand is done in much the same way as the charge of a magic mirror provided with a fluid condenser for special purposes. There are many ways of charge for a wand. They all depend on what the magician intends or wants to use it for. Above all, the magician must always be aware of the fact that the magic wand is a symbol of his will, his strength and his power, and that it is representing a container like a fluid condenser of that power, quality etc. in which he is not only able to transfer, but also to store up that power, according to his wish, to an exceedingly high density. It matters little if such a rod is nothing but a simple twig, cut and adapted accordingly, or if it is a complicated wand, saturated or filled up with a fluid condenser. A magic wand may be charged with: 1. the magician's will-power 2. special qualities, faculties, etc. 3. magnetism, biomagnetism, etc. 4. the elements 5. Akasha 6. the help of a light-fluid Here are some examples for practical use: With regards to Point 1, charge with will-power: Take into your hand the wand which you have prepared and concentrate your will on, or rather into, the wand; that is, transfer your whole consciousness into the wand so that you feel you are the wand itself. Your concentration must then be filled with the idea that all your will-power, your strength, is embodied in the wand. This kind of concentration must last for at least five minutes without any interruption. Already at the moment of embodying your will into the wand you have to think that whenever you take the wand into your hand your will-power will be put into action and that everything you want to have happening will happen. When you have transferred your whole will by utmost tension and strongest imagination into the wand, you end the charge of it by wrapping it into a piece of pure silk and putting it in the same place as your other magic implements. After some time load the wand again in the same manner, and every time you repeat the ceremony you must increase the intensity of your imagination. Never forget that your whole spiritual will is embodied in the wand. It is important that you limit the time and if possible, also the space of the power concentrated in the wand; that is, concentrate your willpower into the wand with the idea that as long as it will exist it will represent all your will, all your power, and remain effective. A wand charged in this way will remain effective till you die, or should it be your special wish, even beyond your physical death, that is, it will remain a magic wand. It may even last for centuries, and its influence may even increase with time, providing you have charged it with the wish that its power should grow from one day to the next. The effectiveness of the wand will first work on the mental sphere, then, after some time and repeated charging, on the astral sphere, and finally even on the physical world. The time required until a wand, first effective on the mental world, becomes effective in the physical world depends on the magician's maturity, training and power of imagination, and also on what he is striving for. The magician who is well acquainted with Qabalah will know that to bring about a realization from the mental sphere into the physical world, usually about 462 repetitions are necessary; by then the influence from the mental sphere takes shape, that is becomes condensed in the physical world. This, however, does not mean that the magician may not be able to bring about the same kind of success earlier than this. As already pointed out, the magic wand's power of realization depends on the intention and purpose for which it has been made and charged. One could query whether the rod needs to be charged at all, since the magician's will should suffice. The magician, however, will not always be in a position to expand his mental exertion in the manner necessary for the transfer of one's will. There will be situations which will exhaust even the best magician, who then would be incapable of concentrating to his fullest power of expansion. However, a skillfully charged magic wand will also have its effect at moments when the magician is not using his will-power, but is just concentrating his thoughts on the realization of his wish, using his magic wand for this purpose. There is, of course, in this case a slight danger that a blasphemous person may get hold of the magic wand in order to realize his own desires, which, if it happened, would go on the cost of the magician and his rod-voltage. Therefore a magician will always do well not to tell any person, not even his best friend, for which purpose, in which respect, and in which manner he has charged his magic wand. This way of charging a magic wand with one's will-power will generally serve to influence beings, spirits, human beings and animals which are to act according to the magician's absolute will and which are to obey the magician's magical power, no matter whether in this physical world or on the mental or astral planes. The influence of the magician is not at all restricted to living entities; it will also work on dead matter if this has been taken into consideration at the time of its being charged. Regarding Point 2: charge with qualities, faculties and the like: Under charging the wand with certain universal qualities is understood qualities such as omnipotence or other specific ones which the magician needs for his realizations in the mental, astral or physical planes and which are concentrated into the rod in the same manner as described above. It is possible (similar to the charge with the magician's will) when charging the wand with a certain quality, to impel the quality into the wand not only by embodying one's consciousness into it and by condensing the power, but also by pulling the quality down from the universe by means of one's imagination and concentration of will-power, thereby condensing the quality in the wand, thus charging it. Constant condensing of a certain quality will make the relevant spiritual power if concentrated in the wand a direct physical power. This means that with the wand the magician is in possession of an accumulator equivalent to a battery powerfully charged with electricity. That then one and the same power may be used for good as well as for bad purposes is true, but a magician, having proceeded as far as this in his individual training, will never think of any evil motives or try to put them into action, since he, at all times, is anxious to be regarded as a true and faithful servant by Divine Providence. Regarding Point 3: charge of the wand with Magnetism, Biomagnetism or Prana: The same procedure is to be followed as described in the preceding chapter. It is recommended, however, to achieve the storing of power in the wand without transferring one's consciousness into it. This can be effected by mere imagination, by means of the magician's body or directly from the universe. In this case, too, the magician must not forget to set limits to the power transformed into the wand. He must also, by force of imagination, concentrate on the purpose he wishes the wand to serve. Repeated charge of the wand will make it not only effective in the mental and astral planes, but also in the physical world. The experienced magician need not be told again that the power then dwelling in the wand will radiate to the furthest distances. If he introduces the Akasha-principle between himself and his object, he will be able to bridge time and space, and the power in question will immediately, by using the wand, work on the person concerned with the same kind of influence, intensity and success as it would be if the person were standing right in front of him. Charged with life-force or magnetism, with the right idea of setting limits or conditions (that is, in this case, with the idea that the life-force or magnetism in the wand will be automatically intensified from one day to the other) the wand will easily enable the magician to call into existence any phenomena that can be effected by life-force. With a rod charged in this way, even an inexperienced person could work miracles, providing he knew how to use it. Therefore it is in the magician's own interest to keep well the secret of his magic wand. He may also charge his wand in a manner that it will automatically, without any effort on part of the will-power of the magician, bring to him a piece of life-force from the universe, which will then radiate from the wand. This kind of charging the wand with magnetism - biomagnetism - is preferred for curative operations. A magician working in the medical field may like to make use of this method and heal people far away from him by force of his wand charged in the above mentioned manner. In the hands of a magician, a wand charged in this manner, which can heal people miraculously over the widest distances, is, no doubt, a blessing for the suffering man. The charge of a magic wand with an electric, magnetic, or electromagnetic fluid is always the same, with the only exception that the transfer of the magician's consciousness may be omitted. If only one wand is to be charged, the procedure is a little more complicated. For the wand to be charged with one fluid only, be it electric or magnetic, that fluid has to be drawn from the universe with the help of the imagination und must be impelled into the rod, to which end the magician has to concentrate on the wish that whenever he desires something, the fluid inside the rod will realize at once what he wishes, even though it be directed to the furthest possible sphere or the Akasha-principle. If you terminate the accumulation so that the fluid accumulated in the rod will intensify itself automatically from the universe, that it will, in other words, work by itself bioelectrically and biomagnetically, the rod will grow into an enormously strong battery. The magician is recommended to accumulate in his own body, prior to every use, the relevant fluid in order to be strong enough for the work with the accumulated fluid of the wand. If he is not willing to do this, he should at least insulate himself before he starts work by putting on a pair of pure silk-gloves, preferably manufactured by himself. Not before he has thus insulated himself should he take the wand into his hands. Since the magician usually works with both fluids, he should take the wand charged with the electrical fluid into his right hand, and the wand charged with the magnetic fluid into his left. It is always better to charge two rods; one with the electric the other with the magnetic fluid, especially if simple twigs or wooden wands, which are not impregnated with a fluid condenser, are used. This is not absolutely necessary, but it will make work easier. The magician who has a wand filled with a fluid condenser, without the wand being parted in the middle, will find it more advantageous to have the wand filled with only one fluid, as this also will make the work easier for him. If the rod is to be charged electromagnetically, that is if both fluids should be prevalent in the wand, the magician must use a rod which has no hole in its middle. Either end of the rod has to be pierced instead, and each half of it has to be provided with a fluid condenser. The magician must, however, put a mark on either end to remind him where the electrical and where the magnetic fluid is. To give the magician a better view, the half provided for the electrical fluid is usually painted red, the half provided for the magnetic fluid is usually painted blue. The rod must then be charged in such a manner that the largest intensity of the fluids rest at the ends of the rod and that the middle, insulated with silk, remains neutral. Charging of either half has to be carried out separately, that means that you may draw from the universe first the electric fluid, accumulating it in the one end of the rod until that end is sufficiently loaded, and immediately after that the magnetic fluid, or vice versa. The magician should never try to accumulate the electric fluid several times and then the magnetic fluid several times; for the equilibrium of the fluids inside the wand must be maintained. The magician must therefore accumulate the electrical fluid on one day and the magnetic fluid the next day. When charging the wand again, he has to go about in the other way. The magician will charge a rod with the electrical or the magnetic, or both fluids, if he wants to make his influence work by the help of these fluids on objects nearby or far away, regardless of their being subject to the Akasha or existent in either the mental, astral or physical world. Special variations of operations, for instance such as volting or treating sick people, or bearing of certain imaginations, will not be dealt with here, for the person having carefully studied up to this point will now be able to work out for himself his individual working methods. Regarding Point 4: the charge with elements: This kind of charge can be effected in two different ways: 1. The magician, by help of imagination charges his rod - no matter, whether it be simple or provided with a fluid condenser - with desire that when using it, the elements will have to obey him, regardless of which sphere they may belong to. If the wand has been sufficiently charged with the magician's power over the elements, then the results wanted will be brought about by the beings of the elements. The magician will do well to expand his power to all elements, fire, air, water and earth, so that he will not be forced to restrict his operations to a single element. When evoking, the magician should call to his magic circle the heads of the elements, one after the other, and have them swear to the magic wand that they will give him their absolute obedience at all times. After that the magician may, if he likes, engrave on his wand the relevant symbols or seals of each individual head of the elements. This, however, is by no means absolutely necessary, for the wand in the hands of the magician represents the magician's absolute will and his power over each being of the elements. The shape of the seals of each head of the elements will become visible to the magician in his magic mirror or by direct transfer with the mental body in the realm of the elements. On top of that, the magician might well, on account of his personal experience and development, construct a symbol of the relevant element and have the head of any element swear to it that he will always be the obedient servant not only of the symbol which the magician has engraved in the wand, but of the whole wand. 2. The other way to charge the wand with elements is as follows: The magician draws the element which he wants to use for his work directly from the universe, that is, its particular Sphere, by force of the imagination, and dynamically accumulates it in the wand. When working with this kind of loaded wand, the results wanted are not caused by the beings of the elements, but directly by the magician himself. The advantage of this way of charging a wand is that it will give the magician a strong feeling of satisfaction, because he is the immediate cause of the magical effect. It is necessary, however, that a separate rod be manufactured for each of the elements and the wands must be stored apart from each other. To prevent the magician from mixing them up, he must be sure that he can easily differentiate between them by their outside appearance. Each wand may, for this purpose, have the colour of the relevant element. At the beginning the results will only occur on the mental plane, but prolonged use and repeated charging will make it work also on the astral plane, and eventually also on the physical world. This kind of wand will enable its owner to influence all manners of spirits, men, animals, even inanimate nature, by the element, similar to the influence of the electromagnetic fluid. Good magicians are able to cause, by the force of such a wand, marvelous natural phenomena, for instance, change of weather, acceleration of the growth of plants, and many other things of that nature. Regarding Point 5: Charge with the Akasha-principle: When applying this principle, the charge of the magic wand is possible, but not any kind of accumulation, since the Akasha principle cannot be intensified. But repeated meditation on the qualities of the Akasha-principle with all its aspects in the magic wand will finally enable the magician to create causes in the Akasha-principle, which will itself realize in the mental and astral planes, and also in the physical plane. Using a rod charged in the manner described, the magician will be able to impel, by force of imagination, a power or quality via the wand into the Akasha, which then, like a volt created by an electromagnetic fluid, will have direct influence on the three-dimensional world from above. Such a wand will be regarded with awe by positive intelligences and will have a frightening effect on negative beings. A wand charged in this fashion is usually preferred by magicians working with negative beings, so-called demons, in order to make them pliant. For further details on this subject see the chapter dealing with necromancy. Regarding Point 6: Charge with Light-Fluid: The universal light, from which everything has been created, is to be accumulated in the wand by help of imagination and consideration of the qualities of the light, so that it will shine like a sun (concentrated universal light). A wand charged in this way is usually employed for theurgical purposes, that is for the evocation of higher beings of the light and intelligences, for it is an excellent magnet which will make the relevant light beings pay attention to the magician's will and desire. Besides this, all other measures must be taken, like, for instance, the insulation of the rod with white silk, its secure keeping and so on. Not only will the magician be able to work, with the help of the wand, in the physical world; he will also be in position to transfer, with his mental or astral hand, or with both, the mental and astral shape of the wand into the relevant plane and will have his influence work in these planes without having to hold the wand in his physical hand. In case of the exteriorization of his whole mental body, he can take with him not only the mental shape of his magic wand with all its qualities into the mental plane but also the mental shape of all magic implements and aids, and there he is able to operate as if he were present with his whole physical body to carry out the operations. Never should the magician forget that the wand represents his true will in its completeness, absoluteness and power, which may well be compared with a magical oath, and therefore many magicians have their magic wand symbolize not only their will-power, but also the magical oath, which, from the hermetic point of view, may never and can never be broken. Many magicians carve into their wand the symbols appropriate to their will-power and the charge of the wand. Universal symbols, signs, seals of intelligences, divine names, and the like, may serve this purpose as far as they represent the true will-power of the magician. The details of this particular matter are left entirely to the magician's individuality. The magician will know from these instructions how he has to go about reaching his aim, and it is up to him to provide, if he likes, his wand with a secret name standing for his will-power. It will also be clear to the practicing magician that such a name must be kept a secret and must never, under any circumstance, be spoken. **The Magic Circle** A true magic circle represents the symbolic lay-out of the macrocosm and the microcosm, that is, of the perfect man. It stands for the Beginning and the Ending for the Alpha and the Omega, as well as for Eternity, which has no beginning and no end. The magic circle, therefore, is a symbolic diagram of the Infinite, of Divinity in all its aspects, as can be comprehended by the microcosm, i. e. by the true adept, the perfect magician. To draw a magic circle means to symbolize the Divine in His perfection, to get into contact with Him. This happens, above all, at the moment the magician is standing in the center of the magic circle, for it is by this act that the contact with the Divinity is demonstrated graphically. It is the magician's contact with the macrocosm in his highest step of consciousness. Therefore, from the point of view of true magic, it is quite logical that standing in the center of the magic circle is equivalent to being, in one's consciousness, a unity with the Universal Divinity. From this one can see clearly that a magic circle is not only a diagram for protection from unwanted negative influences, but security and inviolability are brought about by this conscious and spiritual contact with the Highest. The magician who stands in the center of the magic circle is protected from any influence, no matter, whether good or evil, for himself is, in fact, symbolizing the Divine in the universe. Furthermore, by standing in the center of the magic circle, the magician also represents the Divinity in the microcosm and controls and rules the beings of the universe in a totalitarian manner. The esoteric essence of the magician's standing in the center of the magic circle is, therefore, quite different from that which the books on evocations usually maintain. If a magician standing in the center of the magic circle were not conscious of the fact that he is, at that moment, symbolizing God the Divine and Infinite, he would not be able to practice any influence on any being whatsoever. The magician is, at that instant, a perfect magic authority whom all powers and beings must absolutely obey. His will and the orders he gives to beings or powers are equivalent to the will and orders of the Infinite, the Divine, and must therefore be unconditionally respected by the beings and powers the magician has conjured up. If the magician, during such an operation, has not the right attitude towards his doings, he degrades himself to a sorcerer, a charlatan, who simply mimics and has no true contact with the Highest. The magician's authority would, in such a case, be rather doubtful. **Moreover, he** **would be in danger of losing his control over such beings and powers, or,** **what would even be worse, he could be mocked by them, not to speak of** **other unwanted and unforeseen surprises and accompanying phenomena that** **he would be exposed, especially if negative forces were involved**. The way in which a magic circle has to be formed depends on the grade of maturity and the individual attitude of the magician. The diagram, that is the drawing by which the Divinity is expressed within the circle, is subject to the religious concepts of the magician. The procedure followed by an oriental magician when forming a magic circle is of no use to an occidental magician, because his ideas of the Divine and the Infinite are quite different from those of the magician from the East. If an occidental initiate drew a magic circle according to oriental instructions, with all divine names appertaining to it, it would be ineffective and completely fall short of its purpose. A Christian magician must therefore never draw a magic circle according to an Indian or any other religion if he wants to save himself from an unnecessary effort. The construction of the magic circle depends, from the beginning, on **one's individual ideas and beliefs** and **one's individual conception of the qualities of the Divine**, who is to be symbolized graphically by this circle. (this is, of course, the essence of Metaphysics) This is the reason why a genuine magician will never draw a circle, carry out rituals, or follow instructions concerning ceremonial magic to which he himself is not identified in his individual practice. For this would be similar to wearing oriental clothes in the occident. Bearing these facts in mind, it comes natural that the magic circle has to be drawn in complete accordance with the views of life and maturity of the magician. The initiate who is conscious about the Harmony of the Universe and its exact hierarchy will, of course, make use of his knowledge when drawing the magic circle. Such a magician may, if he likes, and if the circumstances permit it, draw into his magic circle diagrams representing the whole hierarchy of the universe and thus come into contact with, and awake his consciousness of, the universe much more rapidly. He is free to draw, if necessary, several circles at a certain distance from each other in order to use them for representing the hierarchy of the universe in the form of divine names, genii, princes, angels and other powers. One must, of course, meditate appropriately and take the concept of the divine aspects in question into consideration when drawing the circle. The true magician must know that **divine names are symbolic designations of divine qualities and powers**. It stands to reason that while drawing the circle and entering the divine names the magician must also consider the analogies corresponding to the power in question, such as color, number and direction, if he does not want to allow a breach in his consciousness to come into existence because he has not presented the universe in its complete analogy. Each magic circle, no matter whether a simple drawing or a complicated one, will always serve its purpose, depending, of course, on the magician's faculty to bring his individual consciousness into full accordance with the universal, the cosmic consciousness. _Even a large barrel-hoop will do_ the job, **providing** the magician is capable of finding **the relevant state of mind** and is completely convinced that the circle in the center of which he is standing represents the universe, to which is to react, as a representation of God. The magician will realize the more extensive his reading, the greater his intellectual capacity and the larger his store of knowledge happens to be, the more complicated his ritual and magic circle will be in order to furnish sufficient support for his spiritual consciousness, which then will make possible an easier connection of the microcosm and the macrocosm in the center of the circle. Furthermore, he must realize that **it is not he** that is drawing the magic circle at the moment of concentration, **but that the Divine Spirit** is actually **guiding his hand and instrument** to draw the circle. Therefore, before drawing the magic circle, **a conscious contact with the Almighty**, with **the Infinite**, has to be brought about **by** the help of **meditation and identification**. Yet he must **never forget the main thing**, that is the orientation he needs when working with a magic circle, for only if he has reached the necessary cosmic contact **by means of meditation and imagination, i. e. the personal connection with his God**, will he be qualified for entering the circle and starting work inside it. *In ‘MQ Magic’ so to speak, we deliberately recognize the Constance of God, whose center is everywhere and whose circumference is nowhere. We therefore recognize our perfect Freedom to operate anywhere at all times over the entirety of the Universe, in harmony and accordance with God; that we ourselves be instruments of God’s influence, vessels of His Divine Love, and Good Stewards of Faith, the Essence of His Law; in Whose Light we Gratefully live through the birthright of Grace, as Heirs in Christ. Knowing that God is our Father and Friend, we live simply and act kindly; not commanding the forces and powers nor exerting control over the Beings, only mastery of our own Being; for, knowing that All things are done by God, and that God lives within us and we in God, there is little cause for us to raise our voice and gesticulate; save the folding of the hands, the bending of the knee, the bowing of the head and the quiet offering of Prayer in Joy and Thanksgiving, for All that we are is God’s. Therefore our circle, as symbolic of our connection with God is infinite and cannot be delineated. {We know, first-hand the beauty of the wand: all true wands are related in the Ideal World to the Staff of God and therefore, the Divine Will operating through all living Creation recognizes, with great happiness, the hand of the Believer who contemplates the Word and trusts in the Law. The Divine Will is that we should live in Harmony with Divine Law, and the Law of the Law is Freedom: the Will of God is that we Live and be Free! Therefore the divine wand of God’s Magic is alive in the hand of God’s Children. } The Symbol of Unity The psyche that has received the benefits of self-realization is expressed in a glyph called the uniting symbol. This is a symbol which portrays the union of all parts of the psyche, yet its synthe- sis transcends all of its separate components. It represents the restored equilibrium between the conscious and the unconscious. The uniting symbol portrays a balanced psychological state that we wish to achieve. In Eastern societies, the uniting symbol often takes the form of a drawing called a mandala, or "magic circle," said to be a balanced glyph of the cosmos. The most important uniting symbol in the West is the Qabalistic Tree of Life. ![A MAGIC CIRCLE.](<A MAGIC CIRCLE.jpg>) **A MAGIC CIRCLE.** From _The Complete Book of Magic Science_ (unpublished). The above figure is a complete and faithful representation of a magic circle as designed by mediæval conjurers for the invocation of spirits. The magician accompanied by his assistant takes his place at the point formed by the crossing of the central lines marked _MAGISTER_. The words about the circle are the names of the invisible intelligences, and the small crosses mark points at which certain prayers and invocations are recited. The small circle outside is prepared for the spirit to be invoked, and while in use has the signature of the desired intelligence traced within the triangle. long narrow strip of virgin parchment and must be hung upon twelve crosses made of the wood of _cross-thorn_. Upon the parchment you must write the names and symbols according to the figure which follows. Outside this first circle make the second as follows: "First secure a thread of red silk that has been spun or twisted to the left instead of the right. Then place in the ground twelve crosses made of laurel leaves, and also prepare a long strip of new white paper. Write with an unused pen the characters and symbols as seen on the second circle. Wind this latter strip of paper around with the red silken thread and pin them upon the twelve crosses of laurel leaves. Outside this second circle make a third one which is also of virgin parchment and pinned upon twelve crosses of consecrated palm. When you have made these three circles, retire into them until at last you stand in the center upon a pentagram drawn in the midst of the great cross first drawn. Now, to insure success, do everything according to the description, and when you have read off the sacred invocation pronounce the name of the spirit which you desire to appear. It is essential that you pronounce the name very distinctly. You must also note the day and the hour, for each spirit can only be invoked at certain times." While the black magician at the time of signing his pact with the elemental demon maybe fully convinced that he is strong enough to control indefinitely the powers placed at his disposal, **he is speedily undeceived**. Before many years elapse he must turn all his energies to the problem of self-preservation. A world of horrors to which he has attuned himself by his own covetousness looms nearer every day, until he exists upon the edge of a seething maelstrom, expecting momentarily to be sucked down into its turbid depths. Afraid to die--because he will become the servant of his own demon--the magician commits crime after crime to prolong his wretched earthly existence. Realizing that life is maintained by the aid of a mysterious universal life force which is the common property of all creatures, the black magician often becomes an occult vampire, stealing this energy from others. According to mediæval superstition, black magicians turned themselves into werewolves and roamed the earth at night, attacking defenseless victims for the life force contained in their blood. **MODUS OPERANDI FOR THE INVOCATION OF SPIRITS** The following condensed extract from an ancient manuscript is reproduced herewith as representative of the ritualism of ceremonial magic. The extract is from _The Complete Book of Magic Science_, an unpublished manuscript (original in the British Museum), with pentacles in colors, mentioned by Francis Barrett in his _Magus_. "_Opening Prayer_ "Omnipotent and Eternal God who hath ordained the whole creation for thy praise and glory and for the salvation of man, I earnestly beseech thee that thou wouldst send one of thy spirits of the order of Jupiter, one of the messengers of _Zadkiel_ whom thou hast appointed governor of thy firmament at the present time, most faithfully, willingly, and readily to show me these things which I shall ask, command or require of him, and truly execute my desires. Nevertheless, O Most Holy God, thy will and not mine be done through JC, thine only begotten Son our Lord. Amen. "_The Invocation_. [The magician, having properly consecrated his vestments and utensils and being protected by his circle, now calls upon the spirits to appear and accede to his demands.] "Spirits, whose assistance I require, behold the sign and the very Hallowed Names of God full of power. Obey the power of this our pentacle; go out your hidden caves and dark places; cease your hurtful occupations to those unhappy mortals whom without ceasing you torment; come into this place where the Divine Goodness has assembled us; be attentive to our orders and known to our just demands; believe not that your resistance will cause us to abandon our operations. Nothing can dispense with your obeying us. We command you by the Mysterious Names _Elohe Agla Elohim Adonay Gibort_. Amen. "**I call upon thee, Zadkiel**, in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, blessed Trinity, unspeakable Unity. "I invoke and intreat thee, Zadkiel, in this hour to attend to the words and conjurations which I shall use this day by the Holy Names of God _Elohe El Elohim Elion Zebaoth Escerehie Iah Adonay Tetragrammaton_. "I conjure thee, I exorcise thee, thou Spirit _Zadkiel_, by these Holy Names _Hagios O Theos Iscyros Athanatos Paracletus Agla on Alpha et Omega Ioth Aglanbroth Abiel Anathiel Tetragrammaton_: And by all other great and glorious, holy and unspeakable, mysterious, mighty, powerful, incomprehensible Names of God, that you attend unto the words of my mouth, and send unto me _Pabiel_ or other of your ministering, serving Spirits, who may show me such things as I shall demand of him in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen. "I intreat thee, _Pabiel_, by the whole Spirit of Heaven, Seraphim, Cherubim, Thrones, Dominations, Witnesses, Powers, Principalities, Archangels, and Angels, by the holy, great, and glorious Angels _Orphaniel Tetra-Dagiel Salamla Acimoy pastor poti_, that thou come forthwith, readily show thyself that we may see you and audibly hear you, speak unto us and fulfil our desires, and by your star which is Jupiter, and by all the constellations of Heaven, and by whatsoever you obey, and by your character which you have given, proposed, and confirmed, that you attend unto me according to the prayer and petitions which I have made unto Almighty God, and that you forthwith send me one of your ministering Spirits, who may willingly, truly, and faithfully fulfil all my desires, and that you command him to appear unto me in the form of a beautiful Angel, gently, courteously, affably, and meekly, entering into communication with me, and that he neither permitting any evil Spirit to approach in any sort of hurt, terrify or affright me in any way nor deceiving me in any wise. Through the virtue of Our Lord JC, in whose Name I attend, wait for, and expect thy appearance. Fiat, fiat, fiat. Amen, Amen, Amen. "_Interrogatories_. [Having summoned the spirit unto his presence, the magician shall question him as follows:] "'Comest thou in peace in the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost?' [And the spirit shall answer:] 'Yes.' "'Thou art welcome, noble Spirit. What is thy Name?' [And the spirit shall answer:] '_Pabiel_.' "'I have called thee in the Name of Jesu of Nazareth at whose Name every knee doth bow in heaven, earth, and hell, and every tongue shall confess there is no name like unto the Name of Jesus, who hath given power unto man to bind and to loose all things in his most Holy Name, yea even unto those that trust in his salvation. "'Art thou the **messenger of Zadkiel?'** [And the spirit shall answer:] 'Yes.' "'Wilt thou confirm thyself unto me at this time and henceforth reveal all things unto me that I shall desire to know, and teach me how I may increase in wisdom and knowledge and show unto me all the secrets of the Magic Art, and of all liberal sciences, that I may thereby set forth the glory of Almighty God?' [And the spirit shall answer:] 'Yes.' "'Then I pray thee give and confirm thy character unto me whereby I may call thee at all times, and also swear unto me this oath and I will religiously keep my vow and covenant unto Almighty God and will courteously receive thee at all times where thou dost appear unto me.' "_License to Depart_. "'Forasmuch as thou comest in peace and quietness and hath answered Sometimes, when you engage the image, you will develop an ongoing relationship with it. As you continue to work with it, you will eventually find away to re-integrate it back into the field of consciousness, so it is no longer split off and alienated. _When you meet the need or solve the problem inherent in this intrapsychic element, it will become re-integrated._Then, rather than having this intrapsychic element taunt you from the sidelines, you can find a way to make it part of your team. (5) _Creation and Destruction of the Image_ - if you decide that this image is not something that you want to rehabilitate and eventually integrate into consciousness [for example, if you are having recurring images of being an ax murderer], you may wish to create and destroy it using your faculty of imagination. To use this method, you must first exactly duplicate the image. You must imagine vividly this image, down to its last detail. Now feel that you are creating this image, as it is now. Once you realize you can create this image, you can also imagine it dissolving into nothingness. Practice dematerializing the image through your intention until you can make it vanish at will. _The Rite of Banishment_ - If the image is persistent, deeply troubling to you, and will not go away, you may treat it as a malevolent entity and banish it. In the _Bible_, Jesus' casting out of devils is an example of banishment. To do this rite, you will need to be able to invoke and attune with an Initiate or Spiritual Master to protect you and empower you as you do this rite. You will also need to create a force field or magic circle to contain the entity. Further, you must have a powerful ability to hold the entity, either by the force of your own will or through the agency of angels. You must also have the ability to decree or affirm with great force and authority. You will also need to identify in advance to which location you intend to send the entity. Locations for banishment include: - Into another living entity (not recommended, as this violates the rule of non-injury) - Into a remote physical location, such as the center of the earth, a distant planet, or the middle of a wilderness (this may not be very effective, if the entity decides to come back—it can return at the speed of thought) - To a locked Astral Plane, e.g., a hell world - To dissolve in the Light that created it _WARNING! We will describe the steps of the rite here. If you have not been trained in all the aspects of this method and have fully not mastered it, do not under any circumstances attempt to use it._ Put on the armor of Light and invoke the Initiate with Whom you work to protect and empower you Create a force field or magic circle around the entity to contain it. Ask the angels, if you work with them, to help you contain the entity Once the entity recognizes it is being imprisoned, it will attempt to escape or to attack you. Expect this. Protect yourself. Address the entity by name. Command it in a loud voice, "I command that you leave this person now and go to [specify location] now! Do not ever return!" Use the power of the Divine Force flowing through you to send the entity through your intention to the specified location. Close the psychic space where the entity was, visualizing it is sealed and filled with Light. Verify that the entity has indeed left. The rite of banishment is a last resort for dealing with malevolent and destructive entities. It is not to be used unless there is no other recourse available to you. If you do not feel comfortable or competent enough in using this method, you may find a priest who has been trained in the rite of exorcism, consult a shaman or occultist versed in this method, or locate an advanced disciple or Initiate who does this work. (7) _Dissolution by Transformational Method_ - if you determine by polling that the image arises from either the Lower Astral Plane or the Subplanes of the Psychic Realm, you may find that using a transformation al method such as your bija mantra will burn up the karmic issue that this entity personifies. As you burn the karmic substrate away, the entity will concomitantly dissolve, and you will be troubled with it no longer. **Franz Bardon** Franz Bardon, a Czech author of several books on magic, suggested that magical rituals, particularly those of evocation be simple and direct in comparison to those of the Golden Dawn.  In his work, _The Practice of Magical Evocation_, Bardon gives the following outline for the performing of magical operations, which is to be suitably adapted to zodical rituals, and the evocation of the various beings of each planet and sign.  Bardon. s  technique more closely resembles those of the old Medieval and Renaissance techniques in that it is more flexible and less structured than more modern rituals. Two magical mirrors are needed, although crystal balls, or bowls of fresh clean water can be substituted. Prior to the actual ritual, the magician should bath, or at least wash their hands and drink some clean water.  The idea of all physical and psychic obstructions and influences being washed away should fill your imagination. When dressing, the foremost idea is that all influences, both positive or negative, are negated, and that the will of the magician is supreme.  This protective attitude must be maintained during the ritual.  When you place your cap, cowl, or band upon your head, the final thought that it is not the magician, but God that carries through the entire operation. The author states: "You must unite yourself with the Divine principle inside you in such a way that you have the feeling that you are the deity itself."[12] Light your magic lamp, being sure that the color it projects is that of the planet or Sign being invoked.  Green for Venus, Red for Mars, etc. Here of course, an electric light or colored bulbs are easiest to use. Place it on or above the altar, or anywhere it will fill the room with filtered light. Draw your magic circle. Impregnate your magic mirror, crystal, or bowl of water with the green light using the power of your imagination.  Be conscious that it is not you, the magician, but Deity, that is carrying out the operation. You must feel that the light is a veritable matrix of energy and power, concentrating in the mirror as it did the room previously. You must have the permanent impression that your are moving about in the room in an oscillating (green) light.  This is the way to prepare, magically, the room for the being to be evoked, and in a room like this there will be no more obstacles for the being and it will feel the atmosphere of its own sphere.  Already at the moment you accumulate the light you concentrate on the idea that the purpose of this accumulation is to condense the evoked spirit being in a manner that you can see it with your physical eyes and hear it with your physical ears.  The stronger your imagination, belief, will and conviction, the better condensed and truer (the spirit) will appear to you.  When impregnating the room, do not forget to include that you wish the accumulated planetary (or zodiacal) light-power to remain in the mirror (or crystal, etc.) and in the room until you dissolve it again by force of your imagination. Now, you start impregnating the other mirror by charging it with the Akasha-principle.  Project, by force of imagination, into the surface of the mirror, the idea that not any disturbing being, not any unwanted power or the like will penetrate into your workroom.[13] Take the sigil of the sphere being invoked, and trace the sigil with your wand, sword, or finger.  Concentrating into the seal the qualities of the being evoked.  In addition, concentrate on the idea that the being is allied to the sign and must react to it at any time, willingly, to perform the task it is assigned.  The magician must also keep in mind, that it is not they that draw the sign, but God, and that the being will render complete obedience to Deity.  The author states, that with this attitude, success is guaranteed. Bardon now states, the we can begin the preparation of the Magic Circle and Triangle of Art, or evocation.  The lines that form them must be re-drawn with the sword, wand, or hand, and the attitude to be taken is that the circle represents eternity and the unity of the macrocosm and microcosm; while the triangle is the three dimensions of the mental, astral, and material forms of the being called forth. As with traditional rituals, the triangle is outside of the circle, and the talisman is placed inside of it.  The nature and symbolism of the circle, or circles, is left entirely to the operator.  However, if four circles are used, they have the names and sigils of the 1) Elemental, 2) Planetary, 3) Zodiacal, and 4) Divine Names of the Quarters inscribed within them. Of course, incense can be used to either attract the energy of the sphere, or its being, that is being contacted; or, as a means of giving shape and form to the being if it is being evoked into the Triangle of Art. With implement of evocation in hand, the magician stands in the center of the circle and imagines that they are God, and that their power and consciousness is everywhere.  This is very important, and stressed by Bardon several times.  This kind of . changing places. with the Cosmos, is also suggested as a meditative technique of its own by the Rosicrucian Order, AMORC, and constitutes a kind of . Cosmic Assumption. instead of the usual specific, but limited, Assumption of the Godform used often in modern ceremonial magic.  Here, all of the . forms. are cast aside, and the very essence of creation itself is assumed by the Operator.  magician now calls forth the name of the entity being evoked, be it Elemental, planetary, or zodiacal, and imagines that their voice carries forth across the entire region of the sphere they are contacting.  That the entity hears them, and is compelled to answer, because it is God itself that is calling them. Continue calling forth the name, from a loud vibration, until it is a soft and gentle whisper. The being should soon appear in the Triangle. Of course, Bardon is applying this technique to the experiment of evocation, and not invocation, the two being very different works in magic.  However, an experienced magician should be able to compare the above material to that of the previous Golden Dawn ritual and derive a means of adapting it to suit their needs as an invocation of a specific zodiacal force. 1. Purpose of the operation 2. The being, power, sphere etc. to be evoked 3. The place selected for the magical operation 4. Preparation of all magical implements needed for the operation 5. The actual magical operation 6. Assuming the shape of the deity controlling the being concerned, that is connection with the relevant deity, its attributes, faculties etc. 7. The drawing of the magic circle according to the magician's connection with the deity. If the operations are carried out with a magic circle sewn on a piece of linen, piece of cloth, or the like, it has to be re-drawn 8. Drawing of the magic triangle 9. Putting censer into the correct place, including, if necessary, the way of censering 10. Lighting of the magic lamp, including meditative attitude to cause intuition and enlightenment 11. Charge of the seals, pentacles or lamens of the being desired 12. Charge of the magic mirror, or several magic mirrors, depending on the special purposes they are to serve 13. Putting on of the magical garment and meditative attitude to cause protection, purity etc. 14. Putting on of the magical headgear - crown, cap or magusband and meditation to bring about the contact with the deity 15. As potassium carbonate (or Salt of Tartar) liquefies (becomes deliquescent), it absorbs the water carried in the night air. This water, or humidity, is the vehicle of Universal Fire, called _prana_ (in Sanskrit), and is most easily obtained in the spring and summer months. This Universal Fire is what sets both our personal and planetary Kundalini into action on various levels. Those with kabbalistic training in ritual magic will see a similarity in the idea presented here with the Elemental attributes of the so-called magic circle. The Prana, (Ruach in Hebrew, Spiritus in Latin) is the Vital Life energy carried in the Air (the East) from which we extract the vital principle, or experience it as Fire (the South) by means of Water (the West) and capture it in the physical medium of the Earthly herb (the North). Decant or filter off the liquid each morning, being sure to avoid its exposure to the sun, or a direct water source, such as rain. To do this, use either a syringe, large dropper, turkey baster, or lab pipette. **The Magic Triangle** A magic triangle is, contrary to the magic circle, which symbolizes infinity, endlessness, the connection with God, the Alpha and the Omega, the symbol of manifestation, of everything that is made, of everything that has ever been created. Without the knowledge of the symbolism of the magic triangle and of all other magic aids, ritual and ceremonial work would not be possible. All grimoires or rites of exorcism generally require that the magician who is working with a magic triangle sees that the invoked spirit, the being and power, is manifested. The manifestation of a being - a spirit - in a triangle is but one aspect of ritual magic, and no being will be fully manifested unless the magician understands the whole symbolism of the magic triangle. To get the right idea of this symbolism one must, to some extent, be acquainted with the Qabalah and must have a complete knowledge of the secret of the number three. The more one knows about the analogy of the mystical number three, the deeper one will be able to penetrate into the symbolism of the triangle one draws and the easier it will be for a being to manifest itself. It would lead us too far if I were to deal fully, at this point, with the mystical number three and its analogies. I can only give a few hints which may serve the magician as guiding principles. Above all, the triangle is a diagram of the three dimensional world we know, i. e. the mental, the astral and the physical world. Each power which is to be projected into the physical world must run through the three planes mentioned above. The diagram shows us that the triangle must be constructed with its point upward and thus indicates that two powers project from a point at the top to the right and the left and end in a line fixing their limits. Taking the picture of these two diverging lines as a whole, it shows the two universal powers, the Plus and the Minus, electricity and magnetism, which are united by the line below. By this the manifested causal world is symbolized, which, from the astrological point of view, is equivalent to Saturn, i. e. the mystical number three. In the mental world it symbolizes will-power, intellect and feeling; in the astral world it symbolizes power, legality und life; and in the physical world it symbolizes, as already said above, the Plus and the Minus, and the Neutral. The triangle with its conformity is thus reflected in everything and on every plane, **for it is the** **beginning of everything that has been created, the cause of everything** comprehensible. The mystical number three, i. e. the symbolism of the triangle, plays, as is well known, a very important role in every religion. In the Christian religion, for example, there is the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost; in Indian religion there is Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva, i. e. the creator, the preserver and the destroyer, etc. Hundreds of symbolic analogies could be given here, but it is left to the magician to go deeper into the details of this symbolism and its analogies. The most important thing for him to know is the equilateral triangle, which is, for the magician, the universal symbol ranking immediately after the magic circle. A magician would never be able to get a certain power or a certain being into a circle without the help of the magic triangle, for the circle is, as we now know, the symbol of the infinite and not the symbol of manifestation. No magician should ever forget this fact. One could, of course, also call a being or a power into a figure different from the triangle, and this is usually done with lower spirits, but when dealing with high powers or high ranking beings the magician will never be able to work without having drawn the relevant diagram, i. e. a triangle, immediately after having constructed the magic circle. The magician will now be aware of the fact that the circle is the first diagram having no limits; the triangle is the first diagram with limits or space- symbol in which a being, a power, etc. may be projected. In the case of magical evocation the triangle has to be large enough to give sufficient space for the power or being evoked or projected, for the being or power must never be bigger than the triangle itself. The magician must make sure that the being or power he has called into the triangle is under his full control, and that he himself, while standing in the center of the circle, is thus representing a superior power, a universal, a divine idea. Therefore, a being which has been called into a triangle is not able to leave the triangle again without the magician's permission or, to use a magical term, without "abdication". As for the shape of the triangle, it may either be acute or right angled. For the triangle the same material is used as for the circle. When operating in the open air, the triangle can be drawn with a magical weapon such as the magic sword or dagger. If the circle has been inscribed on a piece of cloth, then the triangle has to be drawn on it also. The construction, of the triangle must be done magically; not the physical hand of the magician is employed, it must be drawn whilst the magician is fully conscious of his mental and astral hand, similar to the construction of the magic circle. Otherwise the triangle will produce no effects and will have no influence on the power or being to be invoked. The magician has to meditate, so that with the help of the triangle as the highest symbol, the manifestation of the desired being or power is effected. The magician will soon realize that the more he knows about the symbolism of the magical triangle, the greater will be his influence on the being or power he has evoked. Furthermore, it is a great advantage for the magician to know that already at the point of drawing the triangle, he is, in his consciousness, connected with God, which state he has brought about by having meditated or used his imagination, so that actually not the magician is drawing the triangle, but the deity incorporated in the magician. It is quite useful to re- draw the line of an old triangle with one of the magical weapons mentioned above each time before using it again, in order to revive the analogies within the triangle and also within the magician's mind. In case the triangle is painted on a piece of cloth, the magician should gently follow the lines with the weapon. In the case of magical operations for which no magical weapons are needed the lines of the triangle may be traced by a magic wand or with the forefinger alone. The seal or the talisman of the being concerned is usually placed into the center of the triangle*, in order to express its symbolic meaning. I shall give a full description of how a seal or talisman has to be made in one of the subsequent chapters. A well trained magician can place a fluid condenser, relevantly charged, in the center of the triangle, instead of a seal, pouring it into a flat vessel, into the so-called magic cup. But he can also use a piece of blotting paper impregnated with the fluid condenser and relevantly charged for the manifestation of the power or being to be called up. It is, in principle, up to the magician's individual taste which of the two described possibilities he makes use of. In some cases these details may, however, depend on the choice of the powers or beings which are to be evoked or manifested by the magician's will. I have already dealt with fluid condensers, with liquid and solid ones as well as with the simple and the complicated types, in my first book "Initiation into Hermetics"; the magician may use either simple or complicated fluid condensers, whichever serves his purpose best. The magic triangle is, as can be seen from what has been said, mainly a diagram for putting the magician into contact with the power or being he wants to employ. It may serve a certain purpose, or, if necessary, also more than one purpose. Its main object is firstly to get into contact with the being or the power the magician wants to employ, secondly to call a certain being from the macrocosm into our physical world, and thirdly to condense this being in a manner that it may even have certain effects on our physical world. All this is directed by the magician's will. The being or power evoked by the magician will either effect the mental, or the astral, or the physical world, just as the magician wishes to have it. Following the principles which by now are already well known to the magician, each power or being will only have effects within the spheres into which it has been called and in which it has been condensed. This means that, for instance, a being projected into the mental sphere will naturally not be able to influence the physical world, but will only become effective in the mental world. The same is valid for the astral and the physical world. The reader will find more details about the mystery of condensation or materialization from one sphere into the other in a later chapter. * Or the triangle can be placed into the center of the Being April 13 2013 classnotes First, let me start by saying a few words about the Regeneration of Bones in the Body. **'Schin' as 'tooth'** Swedenborg on significance of the teeth: "The love of introducing good spirits into heaven, and the love of perceiving the interior quality of new goodness and conveying a knowledge of it to the heavens, urge, therefore, the opening of the whole life of the new comers. We see an image of these operations in the activity of the teeth (among other parts). So the angels who are in the love of receiving good spirits, and conducting them to heaven, presently lead those spirits whose interiors are closely concealed by externals into the province of other angels whose function is to open the interior memory of life." It might be remembered, too, that the Hebrew Letter 'Schin' [Sch] means 'tooth', and in this regard functions to open up and reveal that which is interior truth. Most especially apropos to this concept is the Fire-Letter [S] (All-Powerful), for which operations of interior discovery have been granted the featured abilities to enter into the minds of others and find out all their knowledge and to know all their thoughts, etc. which is a story for another time, but certainly as will be seen below applies to the Primordial Fires of the Soul (Heat) and to the Ocean of Light ( [K]) which is omnipotence. "Swedenborg speaks of the teeth as corresponding to the “sensuals of the understanding” , or to truth held merely naturally and obediently, without interior understanding. And the work of those who are in the teeth of the Greatest Man is not the work of intelligence, or of interior perception; it consists in strong compulsion, and is performed by those who hold Divine Truth firmly and uncompromisingly, but not intelligently. They who are in tender states cannot do this work; but leave it to those whose life it is to insist upon submission to the rules. They are simple, honest doorkeepers, who admit all who present themselves for admission, on the one condition that there shall be no concealment of who they are, or what they have done; but their lives shall be open for judgment." In the Stories that follow it will be seen that the Teeth, as signified in Swedenborg will relate by virtue of their soundness, because they are the end-points of those things which begin as inner truths: "Again he says that “those who have been rich in the life of the body, and have dwelt in magnificent palaces, placing their heaven in such things, and have despoiled others of their goods under various pretenses, without conscience or charity,... exhaled a sphere of fetor of teeth”. Which, apparently, was because with them a life of pleasures was substituted for a truly heavenly life, and the principles which insist upon interior exploration of those pleasures before they are received into the life were neglected and allowed to become foul and to decay. In this view, soundness of the teeth would correspond with the love of having enjoyments of life thoroughly good; especially with the love of thoroughly good work, and not of what merely appears well. And unsoundness of the teeth would correspond to content with good appearances, and work that will pass." **Apatite** Teeth are composed of several layers: the pulp; the dentin; and the enamel. The enamel is made from glassine bio-mineral called Apatite; which is a stone found in the forest. The Apatite enamel is delicate like the struggling ego and easily fractured when confronted by a hard truth. The word Apatite comes from a word related to deception and a pretty smile can be deceiving. Of this Swedenborg relates: "They also have a delicate tact for hypocrisies and concealments; just as the natural teeth have for even the smallest hard particles which come between them, and they feel just where the pressure is necessary." It might be noted that Cassiopeia's daughter, Andromeda, takes her name from two words meaning 'controller' of 'man' (Andros); with the obvious implication that many men are controlled by the exterior beauty of women. More significant would be the Nature of her dad's shallow hypocrisy and her mother's superficial good looks. **and xylitol?** The brittle Apatite enamel is made stronger by the substitution of Fluorine atoms for its Phosphorous for reasons that we will not go into here. A natural resistance to shattering is affected by virtue of the softer compositions of the inner teeth, which act like cork under a floor and absorb much of the pressure. So, barring accidental fracture, the greatest degradation of the teeth comes from the decomposing entities which line the soil of the oral ecosystem digesting the bio-film which lines the mouth and coats the teeth. These produce an acidic effluvium which, in the case of sugar fermentation, bathes the surface of the teeth in acids and seriously degrades the stone-work lattice of the enamel. The best way to survive these composting entities is to domesticate their colonies and cultivate the tame ones. When the tame entities are sponsored they will displace the feral colonies and the natural redisposition of the bio-mineral Apatite dissolved in the saliva will result in regeneration of tooth enamel. The correct oral pH is also essential. One of the sweetest ways to sponsor domestic oral colonies is through the Spagyric preparation of the Spirit Extract of the Birch Tree, Precipitate. The Runic Tree Magic holds the Birch to be auspicious in the areas of rebirth, renewal, regeneration, purification, healing, and recovery. In the stories, below, we will be studying rebirth, regeneration, purification, healing and recovery. **Allied Constellations of Andromeda** "Poseidon was the eldest son of Rhea and Cronos, and he vied for his portion of rulership over creation with his brothers Zeus and Hades.  His apportioned lot became the rulership of all waters, oceans, and the dominion over earth.  In fact, he is the earthy version of Zeus, manifesting in concrete, rather than celestial form. Like Zeus, he is described as having jet-black hair and being powerfully muscular.  His sacred animals include the horse, the ram, white bull, and all aquatic creatures, but the dolphin is his particular favorite. Worship of Poseidon originated with the Indo-European group of people, known as Aryans, who later migrated down into Greece and spread as far as northern India.  To them he was known by the name Poteidan, and was associated with his mate called Da Mater, who became known as Demeter in classical Greece." **The Shadow** "The earth is where the light and dark realms of Zeus and Hades meet.  Where light and dark mix is a land of shadows, and this also shows in the Poseidon character.  His strong instinctuality shows that he really has more in common with Hades than with Zeus.  He is connected with the color black, and a darkening of the Light of ego-consciousness. The more ego-consciousness seeks to express contempt for, or demean, earthborn instincts, the more powerfully Poseidon will attack.  The instincts want equal attention and interaction in life.  They prevent the ego from drying up due to lack of moisture. Poseidon was the father of strange and frightening children, including the Cyclops and Medusa.  Part of his essential nature is linked with the primordial Great Goddess, as shown by his affinity for the ocean, and being under water, submerged in the subconscious.  He indicates that at the heart of reality, next to Zeus, lives something always consorting with darkness--restless, sometimes serene, sometimes frightening, and very potent. The arrival of potent Poseidon imagery touches on the psychological level, Poseidon is the overwhelming power of the collective unconscious which can erupt from the depths of the psyche at any time. He is a definite push on the part of the unconscious to encourage the conscious mind to insist on the personal space and independence needed to further psychic development.  Poseidon is always present deep within the psyche in latent form, arising periodically to shake up our ordinary life. One confronts the shadow internally and in its "acting out", again and again.  Poseidon projects his violent nature; this energy is untamed and often unhelpful and should be related to instinct. Poseidon has a religious meaning.  The God is dark as well as light.  He is described as brooding and tumultuous.  He has a revolutionary spirit which dissolves old paradigms without forming new ones.  In this sense, Poseidon-consciousness is like the operation of Solutio in alchemy--a dissolution of the old structure in preparation for an adaptive change. The Feminine is the mediator to the deep energies of Poseidon, therefore we usually find him with one of his numerous mistresses.  The Goddess always appears with him.  This is a summons to experience the Feminine.  We are called to explore and honor the unconscious, the oceanic world of right-brain experience.  This relatedness joins what was separated, connects us to others and the Other (or Not-I) via the feminine way." Because the Shadows represent that which is repressed and is confronted in its projections and as it acts out, we find that in Practical Magic we initially tend to be drawn to resources which protect us from our externalized self-projections and that help us overcome those things with which we tend to encounter difficulty. If, for example, we are in the habit of collecting spells, mantras or protective evocations, then we will begin recording them in our special book which becomes, with regard to the deeper Psyche, truly a 'book of Shadows'. Such a Book of Shadows can help to greatly accelerate (mc) the psychological processes of self integration and healing. **EMOTIONAL IMAGE** "An emotional analog to shadow matter and energy, is Jung's concept of the archetype of the Shadow, our unlived life, our potential for both evil and good.  The shadow embodies the primitive, dark background from which we all emerge.  That darkness represents the descent into darkness on the path of individuation; the unknown of our own deep subconscious mind.  _Elan vitale_ gets pulled into the unconscious leaving the ego frustrated, discontent, and isolated.  The inner critic or judge takes over. Through projection, introversion and depression, the Self appears on your inner stage as the shadow and confronts you with your inferior traits, those that prevent realizing unique potential and personal fulfillment.  Cowardice, narcissism, laziness, ambivalence, rashness, dishonesty, envy, greed, lust, vanity and attachment and other self-indulgent tendencies have to be faced directly.  If the shadow has not positive means of self-expression, it may be acted out in self-defeating or self-destructive behaviors. The shadow archetype includes those qualities of the individual which have been rejected, repressed into the depths of the subconscious, or unlived.  In short, it represents the inferior side of life with its own agenda.  Even though it is autonomous, it is generally judged negative from the ego's point of view. (Though this is not true for the regenerate; consequently it is judged positively from the ego's point of view). When the shadow and instinctual life aren't differentiated, they form a contaminated state of consciousness which conditions the holder of this fantasy to experience "devilish" forms.  This shapeshifter is considered the strongly polarized opposite of "absolute good"--thus we see the devil holding Poseidon's trident in popular imagery. We gain release from our illusory role as "innocent victim" which causes us to project the victimizer role onto others. By accepting our own inner tendencies to violent upheavals we reintegrate that portion of ourselves symbolized by Poseidon, ceasing to impose it on others in our environment.  Projecting the shadow is a defense mechanism--a denial--which prevents us from seeing our own weaknesses. We must continue to search for evidence of this dark force, and confront the shadow again and again.  We are never "rid" of it, once and for all.  Our instinctual side is a natural part of our being.  Every human is capable of any act when compelled by necessity, survival, or other factors.  But we needn't live them out, by unconsciously "acting out", polluting the general environment with our personal darkness.  We can come to know the shadow through dreams and self-analysis, through our angers, delights, and projections of enmity. The shadow contains bright and good qualities also.  These are our deeply hidden, unlived virtues--our potential. An integrated individual transforms through imaginative insights.  This is another expression of Poseidon energy. " **SPIRITUAL MYTH** "A curious point regarding Poseidon (or Neptune) compared to other planetary powers, is that his character bears little resemblance to those assigned Neptune by modern astrologers.  Neptune in astrology has little resemblance to the sea-god, perhaps because Neptune wasn't even known to ancient Chaldean astrologers. the soul is a drop from the Ocean of Consciousness.  Poseidon also inhabits the turbulent flow of chaotic motion.  His is the underlying pattern governing the principles of complex dynamics.  Though it appears random, this non-linear flow is actually patterned, though not in any precisely predictable manner.  Poseidon is the mighty spirit of waves whether they are in water or travel through the land as an earthquake.  In fact, if we read "matter" in place of "earth," we come to understand that wave phenomena occur throughout nature. **A wave is a nonmaterial essence which shapes the matter through which it passes.** By the end of the 1980s it was clear that there was at least ten times more dark stuff than bright stuff in the Universe; Even dark matter exerts a gravitational influence on its surroundings; 1/3 of Creation, shared equally with Zeus, Poseidon and Hades in a Cosmic Triangle. we can "see" his domain in the unseen oceans of non-luminous dark matter and dark energy. Cosmologists are baffled by the apparent evidence that the Universe is younger than the stars it contains. Poseidon corresponds with Neptune. He is not suffering.  In its transformative capacity, Neptune-consciousness symbolizes a fluidity in awareness. Poseidon-consciousness is Oceanic.  There are two types of Oceanic experience: intuitive oceanic and feeling oceanic. It is immersion in the Ocean of Spirit." Now you will recall that Cassiopeia, Queen of Aethiopia was bragging that her daughter Andromeda was more beautiful than the Nereids (Vanity and Boastfulness can sometimes be vices of Aries, who is related to this story in many, many ways) and that Poseidon sent a sea-monster (Kaitos) to harass and inundate the coast of Aethiopia as divine punishment; after all his wife, Amphitrite, was a Nereid. It should be noted that the Nereids dwelt with their father, Nereus, in a silvery cave deep in the waters. Nereus is known for his truthfulness and virtue. It is said: " They call him the Old Gentleman because he is trustworthy, and gentle, and never forgetful of what is right, but the thoughts of his mind are mild and righteous. " (related to [K] silvery-blue; itself related to Chesed, whose order is the Tzedekiim: the Righteous Ones ) This gives a different insight into the Ocean of the Sub-conscious, one which is trustworthy and can be safely consulted for the Truth. (In the case of [K] the Super-Conscious, really) , or for perfect memory; very like-unto the Muladhara ( [U] and [T] ), once Samadhi has been obtained (or perhaps Swadhisthana, in the case of [K] ). At any rate, the Nereids often accompany Poseidon and can be friendly and helpful to sailors fighting perilous storms. This is important to those dealing with issues of the deep psyche because the ships represent our navigation of the Sub-Conscious and the stormy tempest represents the swirling challenges posed by the Poseidon adventure. Now Cepheus and Cassiopeia are monarchs of mythical Aethiopia, which is various places for different Greek writers ranging anywhere from Ethiopia, to the Nile region, even to Israel and Syria. It is best to think of this as a mythopoeic mystery-land; but the chief characteristics are ancient humans with dark complexion. In Ethiopia is the Omo River Gorge, site of the oldest human bones… not far from the Old Duvai River gorge, site of the second oldest human bones. Egypt, land of the Nile is known as the Black Land because of the dark fertile soil of the river delta, washed down from the high-country of ancient Africa every Spring. The root-word of Alchemy (Khem, from Al + Khem) refers to the Blackness of the bottom-land soil. So the soil is black and the inhabitants are black-skinned and many of the gods and goddesses are black (such as Isis, the Black; relating to the Subconscious). Let us now examine the aspects of this 'Black Land'. As noted, the human race evolved from the first humans on the continent of Mother Africa. Needless to say this means that this is the region of the oldest humanity anywhere around. We find that in and around such ancient 'burial grounds', there are a lot of souls and a lot of blood entered into the ground. We have not covered another of Zeus's brothers yet, that being Hades; ruler of the Underworld, so we shall leave off a great deal of discussion about the ground, except to say that over time the deposition of organic matter builds up making the soil deeper and richer. So we are dealing then with Old Soil. Old Soil is richer in diversity and contains more molds, spores and bacteria, as well as other soil-workers: worms, ants, grubs and a wide assortment of larvae. We don't have time to consider the wonderful contribution of African Ants, but we are interested mainly here with the worms, grubs and 'larvae'. In addition to the multitude of souls roaming about, we see a greater number of Astral larvae, thriving in the moist detritus of history; teeming with hatchlings in the tropical heat and humidity. In tropical conditions we also find rapid corruption and decay. Taken as a whole the Astral fertility is understandably conducive to the widespread psychic practices and voodoo typically performed here. While much of it is malevolent such as spells, bindings, afflictions and curses, at least an equal amount would necessarily be protective; and rightly so. Disease is often epidemic in such regions so there is much curative magic and healing; both psychically and physically. Herbs and roots are used both to heal and to harm. All this is carried downstream and deposited along a river delta and piled into the alluvium in deep thick layers with the sediments. The Nile River is the world's longest and picks up all the effluents of ancient humanity along the way. By the time it reaches Egypt the inhabitants there are paranoid and xenophobic about what it has in it. Therefore a great portion of Egyptian Religious Magic is concerned with the preservation (mummification) of the Astral Body and Moral Cleanliness. In the regions of Africa, where the Land meets the Sea (Where the 'terrestrial' Psyche meets the Depths of the Subconscious), there is considerable fright and superstition. Though the Coastal Regions are fabulously wealthy both in Gold and Diamonds, there is a Great Intermingling of Dwellers; both human and haunted. We might say that Psycho-Spiritual Ecology is greater in the Humus. Lest anybody become too glib here, let it be remembered that a goodly portion of the ancient African Sub-continent is imbedded into parts of North Carolina, remnants of Gondwanaland. Here then, is the situation we discover when addressing the mythopoeic sea-coast of Aethiopia. As noted the tropics are conducive to rapid corruption and Cassiopeia was both arrogant and vain. This means that The vices of Kingship (usually defined as 'conceit') were present in the Soul of the Ruler; as present in his 'consort' Cassiopeia. Cepheus himself was merely mimicking the role of Ruler as he is universally depicted as clad in the garment of tragic actor; thereby empowering his charade as virulent King via his beautiful trophy-wife, Cassiopeia. His character is shallow and his prop is arrogant and vain. It is usually contingent upon a true Leader and King to have traversed Lands as well as the Oceans (a la the Sun) thereby earning the right to rule both the Life and the Vehicle, and a good familiarity with the Subconscious Psyche is a big part of this. Thus, Cepheus having done none of this and possessing a false character, propped up by a Soul who is character-deficient (his superficial wife who is inwardly repulsive) succeeds in angering the tempestuous King of the Subconscious Deep (related to the Gentleman who always tells the Truth) when she boasts that her daughter (her off-spring; the issue of her inner feelings: thoughts) is more beautiful than the 'guardian angels' of the sea-faring professionals; true navigators of the swirling sea (Nereids). This digression has been necessary to set the stage for the entrance of Andromeda, herself. Now an inundation or a deluge relates to being swamped by the inexorable tides of one's malpractice; in this case deception, unfitness and the paranoia that goes with it. And the Subconscious, thus primed, sent a subliminal monster to fan the tempest against the haunted coastline of the usurped kingdom of mythical Aethiopia. Not knowing himself how to rule the context, he and his vain Soul-mate consulted an Oracle of Ammon (Ammon-Ra: the Sun King! Of all things: Sphere of the Sun, seat of Kingly legitimacy and the Sephirah of True Beauty!!!). Vanity, anticipating an impending cataclysm, projected the cowardly answer of sacrificing her daughter, rather than herself, in atonement for her error. However, as she had projected this solution in concert with the Divine Oracle of Golden Light (through her reflection in the Golden Sun-disk of Ra), succeeded in revealing the one solution which would save her and her husband from being pummeled by the Dragon: the sacrifice of her Beautiful Daughter, which is really her vain thoughts and conceited feelings. In this light, a very spagyric process begins to take place. As Cassiopeia prepares for katharsis by the sacrifice of her arrogance and vanity; she strips her Beautiful Daughter bare and chains her to a rock in the Ocean. Removing the outer garments signifies that her Thoughts and Feelings (Daughter) are True and undisguised (Her soul is laid bare). Since it is the nature of the Intellect to take flight, or become 'volatile' (escape mechanism) it is necessary to prevent this until such time as the Alchemical process has run its course. In this case, the Alchemical Process is Precipitatio: the volatized Truth of Atonement is being precipitated into a salt (which will 'fix' it ) until it can be digested by the Dragon of the Deep (the Entity of the Sub-Conscious Psyche) which acting as a Medicine will cure her anxieties as well as atone for her vices via sacrifice. The precipitation is brought about Spagyrically, the condition having been treated by the reagent of fermentation: Poseidon's anger (the Subconscious Deep) which rendered the subjects reactive (acidified: the strong 'waters' of vinegar) until the alkali can be titrated- in (Spirit; via blood -of the sacrificial lamb-blood is slightly alkaline), thereby precipitating out the salt; Rectifying the vices (Rectificio), leaving the waters clear and sediment-free. In the realm of Nature, it is beneficial for the Sea to remain always tempestuous, as the constant stirring keeps it anti-mephitic (see Mephisto), but in the Art it is done safely. The operation is Spagyric because we are dealing with the Soul of the King (his mate) and not the King, himself, which would be metallic. Now that things have been brought into proper Harmony through Alchemical Process (Harmony is also a feature of Tiphareth, the Sun), a very marvelous thing occurs. Perseus the pursuer just happens by and notices what a ravishing beauty this unadorned Truth is, affixed into Spiritual Medicine, amidst all the trappings of a Heroic Rescue (with himself as the Archetype). This is a Grand Demonstration of Spiritual Synchronicity (Divine Intervention and Connection with respect to Time and Place): all the conditions are present in their completeness. All that Perseus had to do was to show up. Fresh from his victory over the Gorgon Medusa and doubtless feeling confident, he stuns the Dragon of Psychic Hubris with the face of inner ugliness, severed from the mortal Medusa inside the cave of her subterranean interior, which she was incubating with her hurt feelings for being victimized and shamed. Like, in this case, acting upon like and affecting a cure: venom into anti-venom. The Magical Hero then weds the Rectified Truth. Much more could be said about the Gorgon, etc. for example how two drops of the Blood fell into the Earth. From which sprang Pegasus the Magical and Perseus (by another name: Bellerophon) the tragic mortal; and having no horse to offer Polydectes with which to save his Mother Danae, Pegasus the Spirit allowed the mortal to capture him but in the tragic attempt to ascend to godliness the mortal part of himself died in sacrifice so that his Magic Spirit could complete the journey (thereby reciprocating the Winged Horse's earlier sacrifice) and attain immortality; thence he became a constellation. Much as we could gnash our teeth (and chomp at the bit) working out the details of this Deep and moving mythopoeic allegory; it would only serve to abrade the healthy enamel of our teeth and we are interested in regenerating it, instead. The enamel of our teeth and, to a large extent, our bones is composed of the stone Apatite. As noted earlier, Apatite is composed of Calcium Phosphate in solution (Alchemical: Solutio) within the saliva in the mouth. The Alchemical Solutio refers to the dissolving of various constituates in the Universal Solvent of the Subjective Psyche. The primary intention is to disassemble the structures which are becoming an impediment to the Free Expression of the Living Spirit, enabling a re-Circulation (Circulatio) to a more suitable form of Expression. The subsequent Alchemical Perfection is to distill the Spirit out of the Elixir, calcify the dregs (Calcinatio), and re-unite the Spiritual Elixir (Waters of Life) with the bones, bringing them back to Life as a Regenerate Soul. Phospheros means 'Light Bearer' and in this regard must bear the Light of the Spiritual Sun back to the calcified bones and 'fix' the Spirit in the Rectified Salt (much as Medusa's appearance congealed the 'blood' and petrified the guilty victim (Polydectes) when mirrored back in the cold light of the Shield of Metis, but Redeemed in the Golden Truth of the Sun-Disk of Ra.) Knowing this, it is 'crucial' to know which light to shine and upon what subjects. In this regard there is much that remains hidden in the depths of the Psyche and often for very merciful reasons while at the same time All Things are brought to Light in the Sun and Redeemed. Please spare your teeth the indignity of corrosion by the acids of fermented vermin and sweeten the saliva with the alkali of Rectificio (Blood of the Spirit), hydrating them periodically with the Eaglet of the Tree of Regeneration. Thus will your crown be strong and your smile be honest and your Life be Good. ![OSIRIS, KING OF THE UNDERWORLD.](<OSIRIS KING OF THE UNDERWORLD 2.jpg>) **OSIRIS, KING OF THE UNDERWORLD** Osiris is often represented with the lower part, of his body enclosed in a mummy case or wrapped about with funeral bandages. Man's spirit consists of three distinct parts, only one of which incarnates in physical form. The human body was considered to be a tomb or sepulcher of this incarnating spirit. Therefore Osiris, a symbol of the incarnating ego, was represented with the lower half of his body mummified to indicate that he was the living spirit of man enclosed within the material form symbolized by the mummy case. (There is another, magical interpretation of this allegory, and that is the mummification of the Astral and Vital Bodies, to make them impervious to the negative influences of the lower worlds. ) There is a romance between the active principle of God and the passive principle of Nature. From the union of these two principles is produced the rational creation. Man is a composite creature. From his Father (the active principle) he inherits his Divine Spirit, the fire of aspiration--that immortal part of himself which rises triumphant from the broken clay of mortality: that part which remains after the natural organisms have disintegrated or have been regenerated. From his Mother (the passive principle) he inherits his body--that part over which the laws of Nature have control: his humanity, his mortal personality, his appetites, his feelings, and his emotions. The Egyptians also believed that Osiris was the river Nile and that Isis (his sister-wife) was the contiguous land, which, when inundated by the river, bore fruit and harvest. **The Sun, A Universal Deity** THE adoration of the sun was one of the earliest and most natural forms of religious expression. Complex modern theologies are merely involvements and amplifications of this simple aboriginal belief. Concerning the origin of sun worship, Albert Pike makes the following concise statement in his _Morals and Dogma_: "To them [aboriginal peoples] he [the sun] was the innate fire of bodies, the fire of Nature. Author of Life, heat, and ignition, he was to them the efficient cause of all generation, for without him there was no movement, no existence, no form. He was to them immense, indivisible, imperishable, and everywhere present. It was their need of light, and of his creative energy, that was felt by all men; and nothing was more fearful to them than his absence. His beneficent influences caused his identification with the Principle of Good; and the BRAHMA of the Hindus, and MITHRAS of the Persians, and ATHOM, AMUN, PHTHA, and OSIRIS, of the Egyptians, the BEL of the Chaldeans, the ADONAI of the Phœnicians, the ADONIS and APOLLO of the Greeks. The Tower of Babel, which, according to the Scriptures, was built so that man might reach up to God, was probably an astronomical observatory. The tutelary gods were given planetary thrones, the celestial bodies being named after the deities assigned to them. The Sun, being the symbol of all Light, has three distinct phases: rising, midday, and setting. The philosophers therefore divided the life of all things into three distinct parts: growth, maturity, and decay. Hercules is the Solar Deity, for as this mighty hunter performed his twelve labors, so the sun, in traversing the twelve houses of the zodiacal band, performs during his pilgrimage twelve essential and benevolent labors for the human race and for Nature in general. "The Sun, as he pursued his way among these 'living creatures' of the zodiac, was said, in allegorical language, either to assume the nature of or to triumph over the sign he entered. The sun thus became a Bull in Taurus, and was worshipped as such by the Egyptians under the name of Apis, and by the Assyrians as Bel, Baal, or Bul. In Leo the sun became a Lion-slayer, Hercules, and an Archer in Sagittarius. In Pisces, the Fishes, he was a fish--Dagon, or Vishnu, the fish-god of the Philistines and Hindoos." **CHRISTIANITY AND THE SUN** For reasons which they doubtless considered sufficient, those who chronicled the life and acts of Jesus found it advisable to metamorphose him into a solar deity. The historical Jesus was forgotten; nearly all the salient incidents recorded in the four Gospels have their correlations in the movements, phases, or functions of the heavenly bodies. Among other allegories borrowed by Christianity from pagan antiquity is the story of the beautiful, blue-eyed Sun God, with His golden hair falling upon His shoulders, robed from head to foot in spotless white and carrying in His arms the Lamb of God, symbolic of the vernal equinox. This handsome youth is a composite of Apollo, Osiris, Orpheus, Mithras, and Bacchus, for He has certain characteristics in common with each of these pagan deities. The philosophers of Greece and Egypt divided the life of the sun during the year into four parts; therefore they symbolized the Solar Man by four different figures. When He was born in the winter solstice, the Sun God was symbolized as a dependent infant who in some mysterious manner had managed to escape the Powers of Darkness seeking to destroy Him while He was still in the cradle of winter. The sun, being weak at this season of the year, had no golden rays (or locks of hair), but the survival of the light through the darkness of winter was symbolized by one tiny hair which alone adorned the head of the Celestial Child. (As the birth of the sun took place in Capricorn, it was often represented as being suckled by a goat.) At the vernal equinox, the sun had grown to be a beautiful youth. His golden hair hung in ringlets on his shoulders and his light, as Schiller said, extended to all parts of infinity. At the summer solstice, the sun became a strong man, heavily bearded, who, in the prime of maturity, symbolized the fact that Nature at this period of the year is strongest and most fecund. At the autumnal equinox, the sun was pictured as an aged man, shuffling along with bended back and whitened locks into the oblivion of winter darkness. Thus, twelve months were assigned to the sun as the length of its life. During this period it circled the twelve signs of the zodiac in a magnificent triumphal march. When fall came, it entered, like Samson, into the house of Delilah (Virgo), where its rays were cut off and it lost its strength. In Masonry, the cruel winter months are symbolized by three murderers who sought to destroy the God of Light and Truth. (that is; the Murder of Hiram, the Master Mason who designed Solomon's Temple) The coming of the sun was hailed with joy; the time of its departure was viewed as a period to be set aside for sorrow and unhappiness. This glorious, radiant orb of day, the true light "which lighteth every man who cometh into the world," the supreme benefactor, who raised all things from the dead, who fed the hungry multitudes, who stilled the tempest, who after dying rose again and restored all things to life--this Supreme Spirit of humanitarianism and philanthropy is known to Christendom as Christ, the Redeemer of worlds, the Only Begotten of The Father, the Word made Flesh, and the Hope of Glory. **THE THREE SUNS** The solar orb, like the nature of man, was divided by the ancient sages into three separate bodies. According to the mystics, there are three suns in each solar system, analogous to the three centers of life in each individual constitution. These are called three lights: the _spiritual_ sun, the _intellectual_ or _soular_ sun, and the _material_ sun (now symbolized in Freemasonry by three candles). The spiritual sun manifests the power of God the Father; the soular sun radiates the life of God the Son; and the material sun is the vehicle of manifestation for God the Holy Spirit. Man's nature was divided by the mystics into three distinct parts: spirit, soul, and body. His physical body was unfolded and vitalized by the material sun; his spiritual nature was illuminated by the spiritual sun; and his intellectual nature was redeemed by the true _light of grace_--the soular sun. The alignment of these three globes in the heavens was one explanation offered for the peculiar fact that the orbits of the planets are not circular but elliptical. The pagan priests always considered the solar system as a _Grand Man_, and drew their analogy of these three centers of activity from the three main centers of life in the human body: the brain, the heart, and the generative system. The Transfiguration of Jesus describes three tabernacles, the largest being in the center (the heart), and a smaller one on either side (the brain and the generative system). Paracelsus wrote: "There is an earthly sun, which is the cause of all heat, and all who are able to see may see the sun; and those who are blind and cannot see him may feel his heat. There is an Eternal Sun, which is the source of all wisdom, and those whose spiritual senses have awakened to life will see that sun and be conscious of His existence; but those who have not attained spiritual consciousness may yet feel His power by an inner faculty which is called Intuition." Certain Rosicrucian scholars have given special appellations to these three phases of the sun: the spiritual sun they called _Vulcan_; the soular and intellectual sun, Christ and Lucifer respectively; and the material sun, the Jewish Demiurgus _Jehovah_. Lucifer here represents the intellectual mind without the illumination of the spiritual mind; therefore it is "the false light. " The false light is finally overcome and redeemed by the true light of the soul, called the _Second Logos_ or _Christ_. The secret processes by which the Luciferian intellect is transmuted into the Christly intellect constitute one of the great secrets of alchemy, and are symbolized by the process of transmuting base metals into gold. In the rare treatise _The Secret Symbols of The Rosicrucians_, Franz Hartmann defines the sun alchemically as: "The symbol of Wisdom. The Centre of Power or Heart of things. The Sun is a centre of energy and a storehouse of power. Each living being contains within itself a centre of life, which may grow to be a Sun. In the heart of the regenerated, the divine power, stimulated by the Light of the Logos, grows into a Sun which illuminates his mind." In a note, the same author amplifies his description by adding: "The terrestrial sun is the image or reflection of the invisible celestial sun; the former is in the realm of Spirit what the latter is in the realm of Matter; but the latter receives its power from the former." In the majority of cases, the religions of antiquity agree that the material visible sun was a reflector rather than a source of power. **The sun was sometimes represented as a shield** carried on the arm of the Sun God, as for example, Frey, the Scandinavian Solar Deity. This sun reflected the light of the invisible _spiritual_ sun, which was the true source of life, light, and truth. The physical nature of the universe is receptive; it is a realm of effects. The invisible causes of these effects belong to the spiritual world. Hence, the spiritual world is the sphere of _causation_; the material world is the sphere of _effects_; while the intellectual--or soul--world is the sphere of _mediation_. Thus Christ, the personified higher intellect and soul nature, is called "the Mediator" who, by virtue of His position and power, says: "No man cometh to the Father, but by me." What the sun is to the solar system, the spirit is to the bodies of man; for his natures, organs, and functions are as planets surrounding the central life (or sun) and living upon its emanations. The solar power in man is divided into three parts, which are termed the threefold human spirit of man. All three of these spiritual natures are said to be radiant and transcendent; united, they form the Divinity in man. Man's threefold lower nature--consisting of his physical organism, his emotional nature, and his mental faculties--reflects the light of his threefold Divinity and bears witness of It in the physical world. Man's three bodies are symbolized by an upright triangle; his threefold spiritual nature by an inverted triangle. These two triangles, when united in the form of a six-pointed star, were called by the Jews "the Star of David," "the Signet of Solomon," and are more commonly known today as "the Star of Zion." These triangles symbolize the spiritual and material universes linked together in the constitution of the human creature, who partakes of both Nature and Divinity. Man's animal nature partakes of the earth; his divine nature of the heavens; his human nature of the mediator. **THE CELESTIAL INHABITANTS OF THE SUN** The Rosicrucians and the Illuminati, describing the angels, archangels, and other celestial creatures, declared that they resembled small suns, being centers of radiant energy surrounded by streamers of Vrilic force. From these outpouring streamers of force is derived the popular belief that angels have wings. These wings are corona-like fans of light, by means of which the celestial creatures propel themselves through the subtle essences of the superphysical worlds. True mystics are unanimous in their denial of the theory that the angels and archangels are human in form, as so often pictured. A human figure would be utterly useless in the ethereal substances through which they manifest. Everything when bathed in the light of the solar orb was capable of absorbing the solar life elements and later radiating them as flora and fauna. ![SURYA, THE REGENT OF THE SUN.](<SURYA THE REGENT OF THE SUN 2.jpg>) **SURYA, THE REGENT OF THE SUN** From Moor's _Hindu Pantheon_. Moor describes this figure as follows: "The cast is nine inches in height, representing the glorious god of day-holding the attributes of VISHNU, seated on a seven-headed serpent; his car drawn by a seven-headed horse, driven by the legless ARUN, a personification of the dawn, or AURORA." Some secret orders have taught that the sun was inhabited by a race of creatures with bodies composed of a radiant, spiritual ether not unlike in its constituency the actual glowing ball of the sun itself. The solar heat had no harmful effect upon them, because their organisms were sufficiently refined and sensitized to harmonize with the sun's tremendous vibratory rate. These creatures resemble miniature suns, being a little larger than a dinner plate in size, although some of the more powerful are considerably larger. Their color is the golden white light of the sun, and from them emanate four streamers of Vril. These streamers are often of great length and are in constant motion. A peculiar palpitation is to be noted throughout the structure of the globe and is communicated in the form of ripples to the emanating streamers. The greatest and most luminous of these spheres is the Archangel Michael; and the entire order of solar life, which resemble him and dwell upon the sun, are called by modern Christians "the archangels" or "the spirits of the light. Gold is the metal of the sun and has been considered by many as crystallized sunlight. When gold is mentioned in alchemical tracts, it may be either the metal itself or the celestial orb which is the source, or spirit, of gold. Sulphur because of its fiery nature was also associated with the sun. As gold was the symbol of spirit and the base metals represented man's lower nature, certain alchemists were called "miners" and were pictured with picks and shovels digging into the earth in search of the precious metal--those finer traits of character buried in the earthiness of materiality and ignorance. The diamond concealed in the heart of the black carbon illustrated the same principle. The Illuminati used a pearl hidden in the shell of an oyster at the bottom of the sea to signify spiritual powers. Thus the seeker after truth became a pearl-fisher: he descended into the sea of material illusion in search of understanding, termed by the initiates "the Pearl of Great Price." When the alchemists stated that every animate and inanimate thing in the universe contained the seeds of gold, they meant that even the grains of sand possessed a spiritual nature, for gold was the spirit of all things. Concerning these seeds of spiritual gold the following Rosicrucian axiom is significant: "A seed is useless and impotent unless it is put in its appropriate matrix." Franz Hartmann comments on this axiom with these illuminating words: "A soul cannot develop and progress without an appropriate body, because it is the physical body that furnishes the material for its development." (See In the _Pronaos of the Temple of Wisdom_.) The purpose of alchemy was not to make something out of nothing but rather to fertilize and nurture the seed which was already present. Its processes did nor actually create gold but rather made the ever-present seed of gold grow and flourish. Everything which exists has a spirit--the seed of Divinity within itself--and regeneration is not the process of attempting to place something where it previously had not existed. Regeneration actually means the unfoldment of the omnipresent Divinity in man, that this Divinity may shine forth as a sun and illumine all with whom it comes in contact. **THE MIDNIGHT SUN** The midnight sun was also part of the mystery of alchemy. It symbolized the spirit in man shining through the darkness of his human organisms. Primitive conceptions concerning the warfare between the principles of Good and Evil were often based upon the alternations of day and night. The Egyptian Demon, Typhon, was symbolized as part crocodile and part hog: because these animals are gross and earthy in both appearance and temperament. Since the world began, living things have feared the darkness; those few creatures who use it as a shield for their maneuvers were usually connected with the Spirit of Evil. Consequently cats, bats, toads, and owls are associated with witchcraft. Serpents, because they lived in the earth, were associated with the Spirit of Darkness. (but this is merely prejudicial symbolism and does not relate to the animals, themselves) **SOLAR COLORS** The theory so long held of three primary and four secondary colors is purely exoteric, for since the earliest periods it has been known that there are seven, and not three, primary colors, the human eye being capable of estimating only three of them. Thus, although green can be made by combining blue and yellow, there is also a true or primary green which is not a compound. This can he proved by breaking up the spectrum with a prism. Helmholtz found that the so-called secondary colors of the spectrum could not be broken up into their supposed primary colors. Thus the orange of the spectrum, if passed through a second prism, does not break up into red and yellow but remains orange. Consciousness, intelligence, and force are fittingly symbolized by the colors blue, yellow, and red. The therapeutic effects of the colors, moreover, are in harmony with this concept, for blue is a fine, soothing, electrical color; yellow, a vitalizing and refining color; and red, an agitating and heat-giving color. It has also been demonstrated that minerals and plants affect the human constitution according to their colors. Thus a yellow flower generally yields a medicine that affects the constitution in a manner similar to yellow light or the musical tone _mi_. An orange flower will influence in a manner similar to orange light and, being one of the so-called secondary colors, corresponds either to the tone _re_ or to the chord of _do_ and _mi_. The ancients conceived the spirit of man to correspond with the color blue, the mind with yellow, and the body with red. Heaven is therefore blue, earth yellow, and hell--or the underworld--red. The fiery condition of the inferno merely symbolizes the nature of the sphere or plane of force of which it is composed. In the Greek Mysteries the irrational sphere was always considered as red, for it represented that condition in which the consciousness is enslaved by the lusts and passions of the lower nature. In India certain of the gods--usually attributes of Vishnu--are depicted with blue skin to signify their divine and supermundane constitution. According to esoteric philosophy, blue is the true and sacred color of the sun. The apparent orange-yellow shade of this orb is the result of its rays being immersed in the substances of the illusionary world. In the original symbolism of the Christian Church, colors were of first importance and their use was regulated according to carefully prepared rules. Since the Middle Ages, however, the carelessness with which colors have been employed has resulted in the loss of their deeper emblematic meanings. In its primary aspect, white or silver signified life, purity, innocence, joy, and light; red, the suffering and death of Christ and His saints, and also divine love, blood, and warfare or suffering; blue, the heavenly sphere and the states of godliness and contemplation; yellow or gold, glory, fruitfulness, and goodness; green, fecundity, youthfulness, and prosperity; violet, humility, deep affection, and sorrow; In addition to the colors of the spectrum there are a vast number of vibratory color waves, some too low and others too high to be registered by the human optical apparatus. It is appalling to contemplate man's colossal ignorance concerning these vistas of abstract space. **Notes on Surya** three Persons. ELECTRIC FIRE, or SPIRIT. 1st Person Father . Life . Will . Purpose . Positive energy. SOLAR FIRE, or SOUL. 2nd Person . Son . Consciousness . Love- Equilibrised wisdom energy. FIRE BY FRICTION, or Body, or Matter. 3rd Person Holy Spirit . Form . Active Intelligence . Negative energy Each of these three is also triple in manifestation, making therefore a. The nine Potencies or Emanations. b. The nine Sephiroth. c. The nine Causes of Initiation. These, with the totality of manifestation or the Whole, produce the ten (10) of perfect manifestation, or the perfect MAN. These three aspects of the Whole are present in every form. a. The solar system is triple, manifesting through the three above mentioned. b. A human being is equally triple, manifesting as Spirit, Soul and Body, or Monad, Ego and Personality. c. The atom of the scientist is also triple, being composed of a positive nucleus, the negative electrons, and the totality of the outer mani- festation, the result of the relation of the other two. The three aspects of every form are inter-related and susceptible of intercourse, because a. Energy is in motion and circulates. b. All forms in the solar system form part of the Whole, and are not isolated units. c. This is the basis of brotherhood, of the communion of saints, and of astrology. The Ida is sometimes called the Chandra Nadi, or the Moon Nerve. The Pingala, the Surya Nadi or Sun nerve. These are called, the former, the Chandra Swara and the latter the Surya Swara. The reason is that when the breath is in the Ida it gives coolness to the body, and that when in the Pingala it gives heat to the body. The Ancient Magi used to say the place of the Moon in the human body was in Ida, and the Sun in Pingala. In the Surya Swara only, are the following actions to be done. Reading and teaching hard and difficult subjects of knowledge, sexual intercourse, shipping, hunting, mounting a hill or fort, riding a donkey, camel or horse, swimming over a powerful stream or river, writing, painting, buying and selling, fighting with swords or hands, seeing a king, bathing, eating, shaving, bleeding, sleeping, suchlike. All these secure success and health, as the case may be, if done in the Surya Swara. Zanoni secured success in gaming for Cetosa re: In the first place, he changed his breath to the right nostril, and threw an envelope of the Akasa Tattwa over his antagonist, who consequently became all empty, the money in gaming flowing towards the Surya Swara In medicine, the Sun is associated with the heart, circulatory system, and the thymus. In Ayurveda, it rules over life-force (**praan-shakti**), governs bile temperament (**pitta**), stomach, bones and eyes. In modern astrology, the Sun is the ruler of the fifth house and the zodiac sign of Leo. The Sun is associated with Sunday. Dante Alighieri associated the Sun with the liberal art of music. In Chinese astrology, the Sun represents Yang, the active, assertive masculine life principle. In Indian astrology, the Sun is called Surya and represents the soul, ego, vitality kingship, highly placed persons, government and father. Revered with numerous names in various Hindu scriptures, he is the King of planets "The Superior agrees with the Inferior; and the Inferior with the Superior; to effect that one truly wonderful Work" -- which is MAN. For the secret work of Chiram, or King Hiram in the Kabala, "one in Essence, but three in Aspect," is the Universal Agent or _Lapis Philosophorum._ The culmination of the Secret Work is Spiritual Perfect Man, at one end of the line; the union of the three elements is the Occult Solvent in the "Soul of the World," the _Cosmic_ Soul or Astral Light In our System it is the visible Sun, the Spirit of Nature, the terrestrial god. And in, on, and around the Earth, the fiery Spirit thereof -- air, fluidic fire; _water_, liquid fire; _Earth,_ solid fire. All is fire -- _ignis,_ in its ultimate constitution, or I, the root of which is O (_nought_) in our conceptions, the All in nature and its mind. _Pro-Mater_ is divine fire. (in our case, [U] ) Newton's spectral colours in the Vedas; in one reputable journal they were applied to seven horses that drew the chariot of Surya, the sun god. Ay, indeed, space, mystically speaking, is sunyata "emptiness" in its esoteric significance, but by no means "emptiness" as Occidental astronomers understand it; for verily the space which we look at, which our physical eyes think they see — or don't see — is substance so dense, so concrete, that no human conception can give any clear idea thereof to the brain-mind otherwise than by mathematics. One physicist-astronomer, J. J. Thomson, some years ago calculated that the ether of space was two thousand million times denser than lead. This revoices an old doctrine; but remember that the proper manner of expressing this fact all depends upon the way in which we look at it. We have eyes evolved to sense, to pierce, the matter of our sphere, and we see what seems to us to be vacuity, emptiness; but actually that seeming vacuity or emptiness is absolutely full, is, in fact, a plenum, a pleroma, full of worlds and spheres and planes, full of hierarchies, of evolving entities on these worlds and spheres and planes. Our entire surya-system is an aggregate body poised in space. This would include all the "emptiness" that we see, or think we see, the emptiness so called; composed of concentric spheres centered in the Sun, and each one of these spheres is a cosmic world. Its heart — the heart of each one of them — is the Sun. The world or sphere of our Earth is one such, and surrounds the Sun as a sphere of dense substance, and the nucleus in this sphere or egg, for such it is, is what we commonly call our Earth. | | | | | |---|---|---|---| |Yang Surya: Ajna area|Pituitary gland, controls other glands|Saturn|lead| **Steiner's Zoe** What does it mean to become a human being? It means to attain “I” consciousness. The Spirits of Personality came to I-consciousness because something was outside of them. This was a part of themselves that they had let stream out of themselves in order to differentiate objectively through external validation. They created a realm next to their own and at the same time they produced a reflection of their own inner life in the external. Consequently when the Saturn phase came to an end the Spirits of Personality could not let the planet disappear; they could not intervene in the sphere that had offered them the possibility of self-consciousness. Pralaya could not have arisen for Saturn through the Archai alone. Higher spirits, The Thrones, had to step in and dissolve everything that existed, temporarily, to satisfy the recapitulation stage. After which a planetary dawn ensued and the second metamorphosis of Saturn, the Sun state, arose. Because the Archai had left a part of their own being externalized, it proceeded to differentiate and develop during the new era, and the Archai had to concern themselves with it. Thus they became bound to Karma. This was the destiny of Saturn: world karma or cosmic, universal Karma. The karma of warmth eggs divided itself into light and smoke. Thus, the new planet resolved itself into burning atmospheric gasses (or smoke) and light. Smoke was the denser condition and light was the heat returning to the higher condition. All new creation results in smoke and light (a flash). All Suns today are passing through the same process: Inwardly they are streaming masses of gas; on the other hand they cause the gas to turn into light and they ray forth the light into the universe. In the warmth of ancient Saturn, the Spirits of Personality were able to become human. In the light of the Sun the Archangels became human. Just as the Archai found their selves –the I-consciousness – by forming a part of themselves from the warmth; the Archangels formed their souls- the inward part of themselves- out of the light and incorporated it into an outer body of gas. So the Archangel had an outer body composed of atmosphere and interior light which shone forth. The streaming forth of light enabled the Beings to have an outer existence as they shined it out into the universe. The Sun breathed in and out: during exhalation, the surrounding world became illuminated (Sun Day), during inhalation everything became dark (Sun Night); this represents a major difference in the old Sun and the present day Sun. This illustrates a spiritual idea of a ‘fixed star’, a Universal Sun, which produces the alternation of day and night by virtue of its own inherent power. Light and darkness come about by breathing out and breathing in. Everything that of itself shines forth into our Universal Space sends the life of Spiritual Messengers, the Archangels, out with the Light. On ancient Saturn, the Spirits of Personality were mighty magicians. The Thinking Personality caused a formal residue that reappeared repeatedly: eggs that were enchanted and chained to a further existence. (or karma) Hence an entity or being at the human stage creates forms from its surroundings. Now, life progresses one stage further during the Sun Period with the Archangels. The nature of the Archangeloi was to enjoy floating out and merging into the spirit of the cosmos, preferring this to contracting and drawing themselves back together, which seemed constricting. It suited them to dwell in the light ether. As the Archangeloi spread out into the cosmos, especially sublime beings, having the ability to receive the Archangels came to meet them called Cherubim. So that around the globe of the old Sun we have an atmosphere surrounded by the realm of Cherubim for the benefit of the Archangels. They influenced the Archangels through the Light during the Solar Day. During the Solar night, the Cherubim influenced the Sun globe via heat through the denser smoke. The earliest beginnings of humanity were formed out of the warmth of the old Saturn. The first outlines of smoke-like, independently moving, physical animal bodies were formed by the configuration of the Cherubim reflected in the Solar gasses. The animal kingdom emerged in its first physical framework out of the Sun-mists. Our ancestors, familiar with these facts, called the beings who manifested their influences from various sides of the universal space on the old Sun, the zodiac (animal circle). That is the original; meaning. From the exalted hierarchy, the Thrones separated the fire matter out of their own substance (on ancient Saturn) and the even higher beings the Cherubim, were able to receive into themselves, the light that arose from this fiery substance and to transfigure and ennoble it. But a corresponding compensation, a lowering process takes place each time there is an uplifting. For the Archangels to have the opportunity of extending their spiritual existence by day, the Cherubim had to continue their activity at night and to produce from the, mist, smoke and fumes, animal beings, or beings which stand below the level of humanity. **Assorted Notes on Sun** (in general) Eloha, a feminine passive potency; from the union of these two was produced _Tiphereth_ טפּארת, Beauty, Clemency, the Spiritual Sun, - - Beauty and Harmony - Christ Consciousness - Universal Love - Central IV. The EMPEROR = Heh = Aries. Notice the Ram's Heads on his throne. He is called THE SUN OF THE MORNING-CHIEF AMONG THE MIGHTY ONES. **Sheep, Lambs, etc.** When sheep are mentioned in the bible, it signifies the good of innocence in every state in which nevertheless truths have been implanted. ![clip_image003](<clip_image003.jpg>) Relating to sheep, by nature; They are harmless and very gentle, never quarrelling among themselves. They are fond of one another, feeding together in a flock, their noses almost touching as they nibble the grass, and lying close together in the shade. Besides being fond of one another, sheep become strongly attached to their shepherd, or to one who takes care of them. The sheep are instinctual to follow the ram who instinctually leads. But here the lead Ram is the Shepherd. The shepherd goes before, and the sheep follow, knowing his voice and often answering to their names. (John x. 4) we find lambs most often among little children, when they are good and gentle. They are innocent and love one another; they love their parents and depend on them for everything, as lambs upon their shepherd. Is there a similar innocence and trustfulness in older people? Who is their shepherd? We know that the truest innocence is given when we are born again and become as little children of our Heavenly Father. All the innocent affections we have, depend on the Lord to be sustained and instructed. "He shall feed his flock like a shepherd; he shall gather the lambs with his arm, and carry them in his bosom, and shall gently lead those that are with young." (Isa. xl. 11) picture the helplessness and panic of a trustful heart, when it is without the sense of Divine support. "Now this is that which thou shalt offer upon the altar; two lambs of the first year day by day continually. The one lamb thou shalt offer in the morning; and the other lamb thou shalt offer at even." (Exod. xxix. 38, 39) It means that in the beginning and end of each day, and of each state and each new undertaking, we should come to the Lord with innocent trustfulness. from the sheep or from the goats. . . . And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. . . . And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are; and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you." (Exod. xii. 3-13) the blood of the lamb upon the door, which kept away the plague? The blood of the lamb is the current of innocent thought which flows from innocent affection. When such thoughts stand guard at the door of the mind, evil is powerless to enter. What man of you, having an hundred sheep, if he lose one of them, doth not leave the ninety and nine in the wilderness, and go after that which is lost, until he find it? (Lk 15:3-7) The Lord entrusted to our keeping the sheep of gentle, innocent affections when we were little children; but have none of them been lost? The parable tells of our duty to search out and restore these innocent affections in our lives, and that the Lord and the angels rejoice in such repentance "there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night." (Luke ii. 8) There were a few people in that time of darkness who still cared for innocence. These are the ones to whom angels can draw near, and lead them to see the Divine innocence of the Lord. "Feed my lambs "; "Feed my sheep "; "Feed my sheep." (John xxi. 15-17) Plainly it shows the duty of disciples of the Lord to keep alive and strengthen innocence in human hearts. "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves "? (Matt. vii. 15) He describes selfish, cruel, deceitful persons, or such motives in ourselves, hiding behind the kindly words and ways which belong to an innocent heart. Pure, gentle, affectionate words and manners are the proper clothing of innocent, lamblike affections; they are the wool of the spiritual sheep. And they make good clothing for us all. The wolf shall abide with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf, and the young lion, and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them; the sucking child shall play on the hole of the viper, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the basilisk's den; they shall not corrupt themselves in all the mountain of My holiness. the root of Jesse, which standeth for an ensign of the peoples, shall the nations seek, and his rest shall be glory (Isa. 11:6, 8-10);there is here described the state of peace and innocence in the heavens and in the church after the Lord came into the world; and as a state of peace and innocence is described, mention is made of a lamb, a kid, a calf, a suckling child and a weaned child and by all of these is signified the good of innocence-the inmost good of innocence by a "lamb," the interior good of innocence by a "kid," and the exterior good of innocence by a "calf;" the son of a pigeon" and by "a turtle-dove" was signified innocence in like manner as by a "lamb;" by "childbirth" in the spiritual sense is signified the birth of the church, which is that of the good of love, for no other birth is understood in heaven; and by the burnt-offering and sacrifice from these is signified purification from evils through the good of innocence; for this good is that into which the Divine flows, and through which it purifies. He who sinned through error was to offer a lamb, or a kid of the goats, or two turtle-doves, or two sons of pigeons, for guilt (Lev. 5:1-13) **The Stars of the Second Decan of Aries** The Sun Genii which relate to Aries encompass the first four Beings of the 45 Solar Genii, which also reputedly relate to these Stars: Al Genib, Sirrah, Batem Kaitos, and Mirach (which is shared by the 1st Decan of Taurus). The Constellations, and thus the Stars in them, marched across the Heavens in a fixed progression. In these Constellations (with + the stars) the Greeks saw their Gods and with their gods, the stories surrounding them. It is therefore not the group of Stars that outline the Constellation, but the surrounding darkness into which the Greeks projected their world-perspective. Therefore the Stars will have the qualities of an Enlightened (Divine) Being and the Story surrounding it will be of utter Darkness, because it is the psyche projecting its fears and instinctualities into the inky black night from the inky black subconscious. **Al Genib** Al Genib is the Star-name associated with Emnasut, the First Genius of the Sun Sphere. There are currently two Stars that are known by that name in contemporary Astronomy; the 7th ranking Star in the Constellation Pegasus and the Highest ranking Star in the Constellation Perseus. Though Pegasus is related to the Perseus Mythology, somewhat, we will looking at The Elbow of the Pleiades (known today as Mirfak), because it is the Traditional Al Genib. ![Brightest-Star-algol](<Brightest-Star-algol 2.jpg>) In fact, Mirfak and its constellation Perseus sit directly north of the Pleiades star cluster. However, you can take a more direct route to Mirfak – that is, if you’re familiar with the M or W-shaped constellation Cassiopeia the Queen. Draw an imaginary line through the Cassiopeia stars (Gamma Cassiopeiae) and Ruchbah to jump over to Mirfak. Mirfak is the one Perseus star to stand out in moderately light-polluted skies, as its brilliance matches that of the Big Dipper stars. ![clip_image005](<clip_image005.jpg>) Perseus' Mother was Danae. Her father was afraid if she had any children he would be killed by one of her sons so he kept her in an open court-yard with brass walls. Since the Sun could shine in through the top, Zeus impregnated her via a shower of Gold. The King, being fearful of his life but unwilling to offend the gods by killing baby Perseus outright, put Mother and son into a wooden chest and cast them into the sea. They washed ashore on an island and were taken in by the fishermen who lived there. The King of the island has a brother who raised the boy, Perseus. Now the King falls in love with the Mother but Perseus doesn't like him, so the King plots to get rid of the boy. The King throws a party where everybody in attendance must give him a horse. But the youth Perseus doesn't have a horse to give to the King so he says "Name your gift and I'll get it for you". This is just what the King was waiting for and tells Perseus to bring him the head of Medusa, the only mortal Gorgon. Medusa had been a mortal woman with beautiful hair but had lain with Poseidon in the Temple of Athena. In punishment for desecrating her temple Athena changed Medusa's hair into snakes and her eyes would turn people to stone. We take a minute here to reflect upon Athena. Athena was Ares' sister, but was the opposite of him, being the goddess of Wisdom (and so Philosophy). Her father Zeus lay with Metis, the goddess of crafty thought and wisdom and began to fear. He was afraid of what the offspring of that union might be, so he tried to suppress it by 'swallowing her down towards his belly. But it was too late, Metis had already conceived. This gave Zeus an 'splitting' headache, causing his head to cleave in half and Athena leapt out full grown and armed for battle. She gave a war-cry so terrifying that the Earth and Heavens trembled. This is said to be the conception of a world through the word (or Logos). Keen students will remember this event and others like it are what caused Hera, Zeus' disgruntled wife to conceive and bear a son (Hephaestus) without him. So getting back to Medusa, the lovely mortal woman who used to serve in the temple of Athena; when she had union with the subliminal psyche of the subconscious, she had desecrated her vows of philosophical wisdom and became hideous to look upon. Perhaps this is what the Island King (Polydectes) had in mind when he sent young Perseus to bring back her head, as reason would have convinced him that his mother's future would be auspicious in Royal marriage but the youth had objected based upon visceral prejudice. Before confronting Medusa, Perseus has a few other adventures and eventually is outfitted with a knapsack, an adamantine sword (from Zeus; adamant is Diamond); a hood of Invisibility (from Hades; cf. cloak of Invisibility, cloak of Invulnerability); winged sandals with which to fly (from Hermes); and a polished shield (from Athena; the Mirror-shield of Wisdom). Perseus then proceeded to the Gorgons' cave. In the cave he came upon the sleeping Medusa. By viewing Medusa's reflection in his polished shield, he safely approached and cut off her head. From her neck sprang Pegasus ("he who sprang") and Chrysaor ("bow of gold"), the result of Poseidon and Medusa's meeting. The other two Gorgons pursued Perseus, but, wearing his helm of darkness, he escaped. Perseus and Andromeda On the way back to Seriphos Island, Perseus stopped in the kingdom of Ethiopia. This mythical Ethiopia was ruled by King Cepheus and Queen Cassiopeia. Cassiopeia, having boasted her daughter Andromeda equal in beauty to the Nereids, drew down the vengeance of Poseidon, who sent an inundation on the land and a sea serpent, Cetus, which destroyed man and beast. The oracle of Ammon announced that no relief would be found until the king exposed his daughter Andromeda to the monster, and so she was fastened to a rock on the shore. Perseus slew the monster and, setting her free, claimed her in marriage. ![clip_image006](<clip_image006.jpg>) A title popular at one time, and still seen, was the **Rescuer**, according to the story. **Assorted notes:** The name **Medusa** and the word **medicine** come from the same Indo-European root; ***_med_**_-_ (the name of the sorceress and drug-brewer Medea also comes from this root). The blood that flowed on Medusa's left side was said to be fatal poison. The blood from her right side was beneficial. The physician Aesculapius (Ophiuchus) used her blood to heal. Medusa had serpents for hair which might represent herbs and chemicals used in medicine (see Serpens). Snakes were seen as having the properties of different poisons (venom) according to their species; Isidore says "Of these animals there are as many poisons (_venom_) as there are kinds” Algol is the second brightest star in the Constellation Perseus. This name comes fro the Aribic name Hamil Ras al Ghul: bearer of the demon's head, or portens caput larvae. Cacodaemona was the astrologers' name for this constellation, with special reference to Algol as marking the demon's head; while Schickard, Novidius, and the biblical school generally said that it was David with the head of Goliath. Algol, the Demon, the Demon Star, and the Blinking Demon, from the Arabian, the Demon's Head. Al Ghul literally signifies a Mischief-maker, and the name still appears in the Ghoul of the _Arabian Nights_ and of our day. With astronomical writers of three centuries ago Algol was Caput Larvae, the Spectre's Head. Hipparchos and Pliny made a separate constellation of the Gorgon stars as the **Head of Medusa**, this descending almost to our own day, although always connected with Perseus. The Hebrews knew Algol as Rōsh ha Sāṭān, Satan's Head, Chilmead's Rosch hassatan, the Divels head; but also as **Līlīth**, Adam's legendary first wife, the nocturnal vampire from the lower world that reappeared in the demonology of the Middle Ages as the witch Lilis. (We are indebted to the Talmudists for this story, which probably originated in Babylonia; and they added that, after Adam had separated from Līlīth and their demon children, Eve was created for him. Our Authorized Version renders the original word, in_Isaiah_ xxxiv.14, by "screech owl"; the Revised Version, by "night-monster"; Cheyne adopts the Hebrew Lilith in the _Polychrome Bible_; and _Luther's Bible_ had Kobold, but this corresponded to the Scottish Brownie and the English "Robin Goodfellow," — Shakespeare's "Puck." Saint Jerome's _Vulgate_ translated it "Lamia," the Greek and Roman title for the fabled woman, beautiful above, but a serpent below, that Keats reproduced in his _Lamia_.) The Chinese gave it the gruesome title Tseih She, the Piled-up Corpses. Astrologers of course said that it was the most unfortunate, violent, and dangerous star in the heavens. **The Star Sirrah** Sirrah is the brightest Star in the constellation Andromeda. The Story of Andromeda has already been discussed in the Myth of Perseus: (Long ago in Ethiopia Andromeda has been the daughter of Cassiopeia and Cepheus. Unfortunately her mother was overbearing that she thought herself to be more beautiful than the daughters of Nereus, a god of the sea. So Cassiopeia was hit by the anger and the revenge of the god Poseidon. To punish the mother, Andromeda was chained to a rock of the coast as a sacrifice for a sea monster. Yet she escaped this fate for she was saved from death by Perseus. For rescuing her he demanded Andromeda as his wife (which the parents gladly accepted). ![Perseus, Andromeda & the Sea-Dragon | Roman fresco from the Imperial Villa at Boscotrecase C1st B.C. | Metropolitan Museum of Art](<Perseus Andromeda & the Sea-Dragon Roman fresco from the Imperial Villa at Boscotrecase C1st BC Metropolitan Museum of Art 2.jpg>) **The Star Batem Kaitos** Otherwise known as Cetus, Batem Kaitos is a topaz-yellow Star in the Constellation Whale or Sea Monster. The Mythological significance of the Sea Monster is told in the stories above. The astrological influences of the star **Batem Kaitos**: It gives compulsory transportation, change or emigration, misfortune by force or accident, shipwreck but also rescue, falls and blows. The Whale really means "monster". The Saturnine properties, such as inhibition, reserve, caution, solitude and simplicity are often forced onto such people, either by a mundane power or a higher power. Sometimes ideas are propagated which make life for the native trying or troublesome. To such persons, fate is usually one of change. People influenced thus, tend to depression or dwell on the thought of death. Life often is full of humiliation, renunciation and obstacles. But the position of the complete chart is always important. These attributions are similar in nature to the attributes of Pisces, mixed with Saturn, especially in the sense of Law directed by the subconscious psyche. In Greek mythology Cetus represents the sea monster sent to devour Andromeda, but in earlier times it was identified with the primeval Mesopotamian monster Tiamat. It is depicted as a strange, ferocious beast which swims alongside Eridanus the River accompanied by Pisces the Fishes. All its stars are of the nature of Saturn according to Ptolemy. ![Machine generated alternative text: ](<Machine generated alternative text 4.jpg>) **The Star Mirach** Mirach is the second brightest star in the Constellation of Andromeda. Enough has been said about her Mythology above. It is shared with the 3rd Decan of Ares (traditionally attributed to Venus, but Jyotishi ruled by Jupiter) ![Mirach](<Mirach 2.jpg>) Influences of the Star **Mirach** Bearing in mind that Ptolemy is probably interpreting the Last Decan of Ares under the Rulership of Venus, rather than Jupiter; though many of the following attributes justifiably come from Taurus, whose ruling planet is Venus. According to Ptolemy the influence of this constellation is similar to that of Venus, though the legend would lead one to suppose some connection with Virgo. It is said to bestow purity of thought, virtue, honor and dignity upon its natives, but to cause battle with chimerical (wildly fanciful, highly improbable) fears and a tendency to become easily discouraged. It gives love between husband and wife and reconciles adulterers. According to Ptolemy it is of the nature of Venus; and of Mars and the Moon. It gives personal beauty, a brilliant mind, a love of home, great devotion, beneficence, forgiveness, love, overcoming by kindness, renown, and good fortune in marriage. Many interests, tendency to inspiration and medium-ship as a base for artistic creations, altruism, cheerfulness, happiness, love of company. These people have a stimulating effect on others, they make friends easily and are helped on in life by others_._ **The Stars of Aries** Four other stars, notable to the Constellation of Aries are: Mesartim (left horn); Sharatan (left horn, also); Hamal (head of the sheep); and Botein (flank of hind leg). The myth of Aries tells how the hero Phrixus was fleeing from his stepmother Mo on the back of a ram with his sister Helle. During the journey Helle fell into the sea (which was afterwards called Hellespont) but Phrixus escaped and later sacrificed the ram in tribute to Jupiter. He hung its fleece in the grove of Ares where it turned to gold, later to be pursued by Jason.  The golden fleece had the power to restore life to the dead, an allusion to the creativity that is restored to the earth upon the Sun's return to the vernal equinox in the northern hemisphere (now fixed to denote the first point of Aries but at the time of Astrology's development falling within this constellation). Creative energy is invested into the symbolism of this star-group but too much of it can lead to violence, intemperance and 'blood-rush'.  Ptolemy recorded the stars in the tail of Aries as like Venus, those in the hind foot like Mars, those in the mouth like Mercury (with a moderate degree of Saturn) and those in the head like Mars and Saturn. The brightest are in the head and the main star, **Hamal**(meaning 'Head of the Sheep') marks the forehead. This is a 2nd magnitude star, yellow in colour, which was worshipped by the Greeks at the festival of Jupiter Ammon, where they celebrated the return of the Sun to Aries with the slaughter of rams. Its influence is generally unfortunate and it is associated with violence, danger, and head injuries. The second star of importance, **Sharatan**, is situated on the left horn. This is a pearly white star, of 3rd magnitude, which is often considered in partnership with its 5th magnitude companion a little lower down the horn - **Mesarthim** - the two being known to the Persians as 'the Protecting Pair', or 'the Butters'. Its name derives from _Al Sharatain_ 'the Two Signals'. As suggested by the image of a ram's horn and its Mars/Saturn nature, its influence is a violent one.  Ptolemy claimed that the stars in the forward and hinder parts of Aries may denote abnormal sexual behaviour when Venus is with them, afflicted by Saturn and the Moon. This would include Hamal, Sharatan, Mesartim and a 4th star of astrological note: **Botein**, which lies on the flank of the hind leg near the tail. **Attributes** The Magical attributes associated with the 2nd Decan of Aries are as follows: **Sun** in Aries Binah in Atziluth, infl. of Binah in the world of Pure Spirit. The Balance of Chokmah and Binah given forth in Tiphareth (Christ). Growth begins. Blossoming (of the Lotus). Entrance of Sun into Aries heralds Spring. The Sun Illuminates Aries, the Sign of Cardinal Fire, ruled by Mars. The result is great strength in individual expression, but also egocentricity which may manifest in Pride and Conceit (obviously taking Sun attributes from Leo definitions ). The traditional deck shows the Chi-Rho (obviously referring to Christ) the Waite card showing right arm (power; might) but also 2 against 1 (imbalance) or alternately dynamization (dynamic equilibrium). **Tarot** card: 3 of wands " Lord of Established Strength " **Principals** of the 2nd Decan: Igigi (11° Aries) - This head teaches the magician how to get power over men and animals. At the same time he shows him how to dynamise magic formulae so that they have a specially strong effect. Bialode (12° Aries) - The magician will learn from this intelligence how he can procure magical authority. He is taught how to use the powers of the earth zone at will, furthermore the method of changing base metals into pure metals. The magician with a specially strong disposition to magic may get this intelligence so far as to bring about the transmutation of the metals by itself. Bialode also introduces the magician to the magic of the sun, that is the magician is taught how to make conscious use of the powers of the sun in the mental, astral and physical plane on a magical basis and also how to protect himself against negative influences of the sun-sphere during his mental wanderings there. Opilon (13° Aries) - is capable of assisting the magician in all operations either personally or by his servants. He can furthermore instruct the magician in any field of **science** of the physical plane; that is, he can grant him knowledge. Jrachro (14° Aries) - This intelligence also can by himself or by his subordinates help the magician with all his operations on the physical plane. Moreover it can make him eloquent and sharp witted and at the same time teaches him how, by means of the Akasha-principle, he can rouse this faculty within himself as well as with others. Golog (15° Aries) - This head is well acquainted with any field of **science** in our physical world, and there exists no problem which he would not be able to solve. Golog is regarded as a great philosopher and exposes the synthesis of philosophy to the magician by intuition and inspiration. Argilo (16° Aries) - This head assists the magician, theoretically and practically, in all questions of love and friendship in the mental, astral and physical plane. The magician may have all his demands in this respect fulfilled by this head. Barnel (17° Aries) - Like Argilo, this intelligence is well acquainted with the art of love and is an expert in excellent practices which make one win the favor of friends and enemies of both sexes. Barnal gives the magician special instructions and makes him acquainted with special methods in respect to the magic of sympathy. This head not only places at the magician's disposal good beings from his own region, but also enables him to get into touch with particular beings of the air which otherwise are very shy of the earth and therefore hard to contact. Barnal is also an expert in music, and if the magician desires it, he inspires him with musical compositions, provided the magician is basically interested in music. Sernpolo (18° Aries) - Assisted by this intelligence the magician can quickly develop his talent for languages. Sernpolo also helps the magician improve his position in life and gives him methodical instructions how to make practical use of the magnetic powers within his range of effectiveness. Hyris (19° Aries) - is an expert in the magic of water with regard to the elements, to the magnetic fluid, and to bring about effects with these powers. Hyris can reveal to the magician many possible influences by the element of water on our physical world and, apart from this, let him know special secrets and give him special instructions regarding the realm of the undines. Hahadu (20° Aries) - is not only well acquainted with the magic of water, but he can also, due to his special faculties, give the magician various instructions in respect of the preparation of liquid fluid condensers, especially for their charging with magnetic fluids. Hahadu is very much liked in the kingdom of the undines, that is the element of water, and should the magician ask for it, this head of the region of the water-element can send him as many male and female servants as he may need for the realization of his wishes. **Lunar Intelligences** (White of Silvery Color) **Shaddai El Chai** **Ebvap** - is the name of the first head of the Moon sphere. It is his commission to control the regularity of the tide. He is an excellent initiator into the electric and magnetic fluids and their use in moon magic. If the magician carefully follows the explanations of this head and does as he is told, he is able to produce phenomena in the zone girdling the earth as well as in our physical world, on all three planes, the mental, astral and physical that are nothing short of miracles, by means of the magnetic influences of the moon and the electric fluid of the earth. Besides this, Ebvap and his subordinates protect the magician against any unfavorable influences which he might have to encounter during his work with the influences of the moon. The first head of the moon sphere can, furthermore, unveil to the magician a great number of mysteries that until now may have remained hidden to him. **Emtircheyud** - is the second head of the Moon sphere. He is responsible for controlling the rhythm in our physical world. This rhythm is produced by suitable intelligences of the zone girdling the earth in the world of causes at the will of this head. He teaches the magician the laws of biorhythm and periodicity of our earth and their use for mantic and magical purposes. The magician learns that the nine months of a woman's pregnancy have a special relation to the Qabalistic number nine, the number of the moon. Furthermore, the magician will get from this head exact details of the analogy of a woman's menstruation to the moon, of periodicity, of polarity and of many other relevant things. **Mercurian**; Angels of the Decan: **Sitael** - the third genius, is an excellent **expert in hypnosis**, **suggestion and telepathy**. By him the magician will be taught the faculty of becoming perfect master of man and animal by way of **_deception, dazzling, etc_**. Apart from this, he will be instructed in the art of reading easily the past, present and future in the Akasha-principle. **Elemiah** - The fourth genius instructs the magician not only how to become the **master** of **his own fate**, but also how to control the fates of other people and of animals. Furthermore, the magician learns how to _charge magic_ _words by Qabalistic methods and to transfer them into the Akasha-principle_ _in order to bring about the desired effect in the mental, astral or physical_ _world_, and how, by diverse methods of passive intercourse to get into touch with the dead. **Venusian**; Beings of the Venus Sphere: (7 assoc w/ Aries) Name (Astro degrees) Specialty **Omah**  (1-4° Aries) Sex Magic **Odujo**  (5-8° Ar) Sex Magic **Obideh**  (9-12° Ar) Sex Magic **Onami** (13-16° Ar) Sex Magic **Opshe**  (17-20° Ar) Sex Magic **Orif**  (21-24° Ar) Sex Magic **Obaneh**  (25-28° Ar) Sex Magic **Solar** Genii: **Emnasut** - The first genius of the Sun sphere guards and controls the **original element of the fire** in the whole cosmic hierarchy, on all planets and in {Sh} all spheres. [cf. Sch] The 'Shin' in Yeheshuah and upon the Crown **Lubech** - The second genius of the Sun sphere controls, in his range of {K} power, **the electric fluids** _deriving from the fire principle_ on all planets and in all spheres of our universe, including all three planes: mental, astral and physical. [cf. S or T] (or this expressed through the Christ Principle in the Sun Sphere) **Teras** - The third genius is responsible for the _positive and negative_ _effectiveness of the fire element and the electrical fluids_ in the whole cosmic {T} hierarchy, on all planets and in all spheres. **Dubezh** - The _power_ of **the active principle**, in man as well as in the mineral, vegetable and animal kingdoms, comes under the range of power of {S} the fourth genius. The Power in Man or the Christ Jesus So, as we have the Sun, active in Man, and representing the Fiery Spirit and Its Triple Aspect; we have 1) the Spiritual Essence, or One 2) the Mind or Spiritual aspect in Man (the Belief) 3) the Fire of the Soul, or Solar plexus (Astral Magic), and 4) the Fire of Earth or the Body of Man (the vehicle ). We might otherwise name these Divinities (Beings of Light): Eheieh (I AM the ONE); Eloah; Shaddai El Chai; Adonai (ha Ophir) [recall that Uriel = 'God is our Light'] **Sphere of Mars** Name (Zodiac) Rarum  (1-10° Aries) **Gibsir**  (11-20° Ari) Rahol  (21-30° Ari) **Jovian Sphere:** **Malchjdael** - Aries - is the first genius of the Jupiter sphere, who keeps _in equilibrium the_ **electric fluid** of the whole cosmic hierarchy. **His job is to** **enliven everything** created in all three kingdoms of our earth and the zone girdling the earth. Malchjdael _controls and directs_ **the will** and **the activity** of every human being and all other creatures. If the magician gets into contact with this original genius, he can _be informed_ about everything regarding this and, apart from this, he will be made acquainted with methods which will enable him to increase or decrease activity at his will by force of magic and Qabalah. Following the directions given by this genius, the magician is **capable of creating such a strong state of belief** by _magic_ and _Qabalah_ that he can **work miracles** in the cosmic world _due to this intensified activity_. Besides this, Malchjdael can initiate the magician into the **original element of** **fire** in all its aspects and analogies in the microcosm and macrocosm, and give him directions and methods regarding the complete control of this original element in all its phases by magic and Qabalah, in order to become absolute sovereign of activity in the microcosm and macrocosm. There are, however, many more laws, wisdom and kinds of knowledge regarding activity, electrical fluid, original fire element, principles of light, etc., with which this original genius may not only make the magician acquainted, but which the latter may also get under his control **_by an apt Abisheka_**, i. e. an apt transfer of power. In sphere magic, this original genius is one of the most powerful, and no magician should fail to get into contact with him, since he will, by this connection, gain a power in the cosmic hierarchy that no other intelligence of any other sphere, perhaps with the only exception of the Uranus intelligences, could give him.
