**On this page:** - [[#Introduction]] - [[#How to translate a web page]] - [[#How to choose the languages]] - [[#Choose “Always Translate” to browse the site in your language]] *** ##### Introduction I recently learned that **Google Translate** is fully integrated into the **Chrome** browser. Once you set it up, you can browse the international Internet as if it’s written in your home language! This astounding capability has given me complete access to sites which were previously available only as fragments, or not at all. For example, the [**Deep Adaptation - Hungary**](https://deepadaptation.hu) site is a must-see, especially the [Survey](https://deepadaptation.hu/ellenallokepesseg/felmeres/) and the [Quotes](https://deepadaptation.hu/idezetek/) pages.  (Other browsers — **Firefox** and **Safari** — also offer translation. **Google Translate** is noticeably better.) *** ## How to translate a web page Open the **Translate** function in one of two ways: 1) Click the **Translate** icon in the Chrome address bar (if the icon is there), ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Translate option 1.png|300]] 2) or, click the “three-dot menu” in the far upper right of the Chrome window, and choose “**Translate…**” from the drop-down menu. ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Translate option 2.png|300]] ## How to choose the languages When it first opens, the Translate panel will likely show “**Detected Language**” and your default language (in my case it’s English). ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Detected Language 1.png|300]] #### Set the “Detected Language” It is not required, but if you want to specify the language the page is written in, click the three-dot menu and choose “**Page Not in Detected Language**.” (❗*NOTE: Do this even if the page **is** in the Detected Language.*) You can then select the “Page Language to Translate.” ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Detected Language 2.png|300]] #### Change the language you intend to read If you want to change the language that you intend to read, click the three-dot menu and choose “**Choose Another Language…**” You can then select the “Language to Translate Into.” ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Detected Language 3.png|300]] #### When you have set both languages… ‼️***…notice that the names of the languages are buttons!*** You can click back and forth to show the original language, or the language you want to read. | ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Button Hungarian.png]] | ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Button English.png]]| | --- | --- | ## Choose “Always Translate” to browse the site in your language After the languages are set, when you open the **Translate** panel you have the option to choose “Always Translate.” Either 1) you will see a checkbox you can check, or 2) you can click the three-dot menu and select “**Always Translate**.” If you choose “Always Translate,” every page in the site will be translated automatically, and you can browse the web in your chosen language. ‼️ *NOTE: This is incredibly cool and opens new horizons of international understanding and cooperation!* | ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Always Translate 1.png]] | ![[Graphics/Translate the Internet/Always Translate 2.png]] | | --- | --- | *** Prepared by David B.
