# Transamination --- **Transamination** is the process by which the body makes non-essential [[essential and non-essential amino acids#Non-Essential|non-essential amino acids]]. This is done—as the name implies—by transferring the [[functional group#Biologically Important Functional Groups|amine group]] from one amino acid (that we don't need) to a [[ketones|ketone]] with the side chain of the amino acid we *do* need. ![[transamination.png]] ___
