**Insomnia** is a [[sleep]] disorder that is characterized by a difficulty falling asleep, intermittent sleep, or difficulty maintaining sleep, despite adequate opportunity and circumstances to sleep. It is the most common sleep disorder in the United States: as many as 30 to 35 percent of adults in the US complain of insomnia. Insomnia may be short-term or chronic in nature
