# Ghrelin
---
**Ghrelin** is a [[hormone]] that is produced by the [[stomach]] that helps regulate [[hunger]] signals. Once you eat a meal, ghrelin levels fall off dramatically, and then slowly rise over time. As the concentration builds up it signals the [[hypothalamus]] to urge us to eat. It's a very strong and fast-acting hormone.
The counteracting hormone to ghrelin is [[cholecystokinin|CCK]].
