**Ejection fraction** is the
Generally speaking, a healthy individual's stroke volume is 60% of the volume the EDV, which is also called the [[ejection fraction]].

50-70% is normal EF
can be measured with an [[echocardiogram]]
## With hearth failure
40% and less - HR with **reduced** EF (HFrEF) or **systolic failure**
like an old rubber band, the heart lacks enough strength or *contractility*
50% and higher - HR with **preserved** EF (HRpEF) or **diastolic failure**
like a small glass container, the heart is too stiff and can't fill up enough (reduced *preload*)
