# Coagulopathy --- **Coagulopathy** is a condition where an individual's blood is unable to [[coagulation|clot]] appropriately. Usually it's defined as an [[prothrombin time|INR]] greater than 1.5. Coagulopathy can be caused by many conditions such as: - vitamin K deficiency - hemophilia - [[shock|disseminated intravascular coagulation]] - thrombocytopenia - patients recovering from major surgery or a severe injury ## Treatment Treatment of coagulopathy depends on the cause of it, but often we give [[vitamin K]] or cryoprecipitate. **Cryoprecipitate** is a blood product that is made by freezing and thawing donated plasma that contains a high level of [[fibrin|fibrinogen]] and other clotting factors. ___
