# Cholecystitis
---
**Cholecystitis** is an inflammation of the [[gallbladder]]. About 90% of the time it is associated with [[cholelithiasis|gallstones]]. The bile in the gallbladder can be blocked up, leading to an autolysis situation.
Bad enough, this can lead to a bacterial infection and perforation, which is a *medical emergency*.
## Signs & Symptoms
- pain and indigestion, especially after a fatty meal.
- jaundice
- n/v
- anorexia
- sense of fullness
## Treatment
Treatment for cholecystitis consists of cutting the thing out. A **cholecystectomy** is the removal of the gallbladder. We don't really need that thing at the end of the day. 97% of the time is a [[surgery#Laparoscopic Surgery|laparoscopic surgery]].
Post-op care includes a reduction of fat in diet, though that can come back after a while. Bile is still created by the liver, it's just not stored.
