# Anosognosia --- **Anosognosia** is a condition of a disorder where a person is unable to recognize that they have a disorder. This can happen for physiological conditions like a patient not believing they have been blinded or paralyzed, but it frequently occurs with mentally ill patients. Almost everyone with [[schizophrenia]] has at least some periods of anosognosia This is not denial, where someone may recognize something but choose one way or another to ignore it. Information and reasoning does not help. This is a *part* of their mental illness. If someone believe they don't have internal organs, you can show them a real time x-ray of their body and they will still not believe you. ___
