This is a method to help remember ideas better and more effectively than traditional revision approaches.
## What people usually do
People usually practice remembering by reviewing. That is, they look at the material over and over again. They might try to recall information, but as soon as they get stuck, they look at the information.
## How RRR is different
RRR stands for
- Read
- Recite
- Review
The basic idea is that you read a text or your notes. You recall as much as you can from memory, continuing to speak even if you can't remember. Only once you have finished you review the whole text. You repeat these steps until you can recall everything.
## How RRR works for making notes
Using this approach for note taking can help make more memorable and personalized notes.
- Read: Read the text all the way through. Find useful sections to read through but don't stop to make notes. You can highlight if you want.
- Recite/write - in this case we make our notes from memory, not looking at the text at all! We may have to make multiple notes.
- Review - once the note is finished, you can go back and check any information you couldn't quite remember or check if there is anything else missing.
This is a great way to "make notes" not "take notes" leading to more personalized notes where you've really digested the idea. It's kind of related to the [[Feynman method]].
