## Meaning
The character "夫" means a married man or an adult male.
## History
Originally, "夫" referred to adult men who had reached maturity and could wear a hairpin. Because in ancient times, men had to get married before being considered adults, "夫" also came to mean a married man.
Additionally, it can refer to someone who performs physical labor, such as a farmer, groom, or coachman. In modern Chinese, "夫" is mostly used to mean "husband," in contrast to "妻子" (qīzi), meaning "wife."
