[[丨 (gǔn)]]
## Meaning
The Chinese character 十 (shí) means "ten."
## History
Its evolution began during the Shang Dynasty with the Oracle Bone Script, where it was represented by a horizontal line crossed by a vertical line. As the Zhou Dynasty started, it became more angular and stylized in the Bronze Inscription Script. During the Qin Dynasty, in the Seal Script, 十 took on a more square-shaped form. The Han Dynasty saw further stylization in the Clerical Script. Finally, in modern Chinese, 十 became simplified and standardized, with a single horizontal line crossed by a single vertical line.
